That's a dumb reason.

When will you people get that Savage doesn't mean what it used to? Like "Hard" mode, the meaning has changed!
Savage Coil - 100% optional, only run for the challenge and epeen titles
Savage Alexander - 100% NOT optional. You want higher than i200? You HAVE to run it, no choice (until catch up patches ofc).
The only reason it's tagged as Savage is not because it's this be all and end all of super high difficulty of challenges. It's because they can't slap a "Hard" mode tag on it to tell the casuals "it's really hard, don't do it", because they'll get all up in arms and confused over the fact "hurr but I've done Seph HM".
I'm serious, if Alex normal was tagged as "Story", and what we know as Savage didn't have a difficulty tag at all (like Coil), you wouldn't even use that as an argument. Hell, you probably wouldn't even complain about the nerfs. But just because it has the Savage tag do you assume it must be this untouched epeen stroke that SCOB has, which is NOT the case.
tl;dr get with the times.
Not all of us are opposed to getting it cleared... but when only 4 people seem interested... imma go /cry in the corner now... And yes it is a dumb reason.
Or next gear cycle aka 3.2 when it becomes unlocked - so you suddenly don't need to run it at all for over i200.
Just because it's happened before, doesn't mean it should happen now, nor that it was right then either. Being optional is an argument for content not to be nerfed.
IK I was there... I didn't like it back then as well but at least there I could accept it due to story... with this... no not really... there is no story, the gear isn't worth the effort anymore. Anyway let's call it differing opinions on the matter and be done with it. Not in the mood to argue about it.
*shrug* The devs didn't like how low the clear rate was for Gorias savage, so they corrected it via nerfs.
Why does it need to be accessible though?
There's no story to see, nor gated content to unlock, nor relevant gear to obtain. So what value remains in even entering this instance?
Yeah, until you want to progress further than i230 in this patch. Then OH WAIT, suddenly Savage is the only way to get better gear.
By your logic everything in this game is optional. Technically it is by definition of a theme park MMO. I could say farming tomes for your Lore gear is optional, going into Midas NM for 220 is optional. Fact is, if you actually want to play the game, it's not. Not really. Just like Savage.
Savage SCoB literally had nothing to gain from it other than a title. The coffers dropped exactly the same loot as regular SCoB.
Savage Midas might not be optional at the moment if gear progression is (quite reasonably) defined as one's main objective.
Savage Gordias is definitely optional now.
Square Enix is so out of touch with the playerbase sometimes.
NO ONE asked for Savage to be nerfed. Almost everyone who is interested in doing the completely optional Gordias Savage want to do it for the CHALLENGE. Tons and tons of people have been waiting to get better gear before finally tackling the much hyped AS3 and its interesting mechanics. Now the mechanics have been nerfed, and victory would just feel hollow. What's even the point?
Nerfing fights into the ground like this without providing the option to do it the original way is sacrilege in any video game.
For SCoB, Square Enix provided the Savage mode as a way to retain the original difficulty of SCoB when it was nerfed. But this is ALREADY Savage! It should never be nerfed in the first place, but if they feel the need to do it anyway they should at least make the nerfs optional.
I like all these people citing coil getting nerfed was okay because it had story. But really the complaints for a story mode didn't start happening well into final coil, and well after first and second coil were nerfed into the ground. Really one could argue that the story in coil still hasn't been taken into consideration to this day or we'd have a story mode like alexander. As it is there's still several fights in coil, in its heavily nerfed state, that can take even unsynced parties, crack them in the teeth and easily wipe the floor with them, and the average player dfing it is very unlikely to clear them in their first (or second, or third...) lockout.
Anyway, for alexander gordias, I'm sure saying, "Hey that raid, you know the most hated one to date?"Yea that one. It was pretty good actually, can you not nerf it please?" is just spurring the dev team into action and definitely not eliciting snickering and belly laughs.
SE released SCOB Savage when they wanted to give an extra challenge, for fun, with the fights un-tuned in their original design, as in how it was designed before it was "ready for release." It wasn't released to be a vintage throwback. It's harder than un-nerfed SCOB was.
And take it one step further:
You had to complete 5 of the 1-5 series for access to 6-9. You had to complete 9 for access to 10-13. That's why SE ultimately nerfed them - because otherwise, players would've been at an even larger loss trying to play catchup if they weren't up-to-date on the current raid tier.
Interesting that a direct nerf is not OK but handing out gear better than what the content was built around is not an issue. If you really want a challenge then maybe you should do the new savage? Oh and if you haven't cleared the old savage stuff by now you probably where never going to.
They could just move 210 ilvl gear to normal one, and we had same situation as with SCoB\SCoB(S), and everybody was fine with it.
GZ with two story modes. Maybe we need 3-rd story mode raid btw, why not? Let's call it impossible, that over some time would mean impossible to wipe
Also, why does content get "old"? It's not like SE needs to delete parts of the game to make space for the new stuff they're working on. If your primary concern is the challenge itself rather than the material rewards, then there is no "current content" or "old content", there's just content.
