I wouldn't mind if SE designed gear (not what I can take advantage of!) that would look good on a Caster/Healer Roegadyn male .-.
Didn't SE say they design gear on females first and then copy-paste it onto males?

I had to go and look because I haven't really paid much attention to the Lore stuff yet..
But I fail to see how a two inch high heel is an issue? It's not like its a five inch high stilhetto spike. I mean, I'm all for making more armor so we have options, I just don't see why they should need to make fifteen sets of tome gear when there are already in-game tools that allow you to customize your appearance to your tastes.
I'm with the OP in this. I want tanks to have heavy armor. That's what they do. They don't need to be giant tin cans, but the armor needs to look like armor. There are lots of other fantasy games that make some amazing pieces of heavy armor, and even FFXIV itself has some great examples.... yet those almost inevitably end up being the white/crafted gear and not the 'special' gear.
There are people playing this game who choose not to glamour for one reason or another.
And that is their choice. But the option is there, as others are also pointing out.
Again, they should keep trends for respective classes and armor weights. Heavy plate / tanking classes should have heavy looking armor, not leather skinnies. That's what tank armor is nowadays.
Go back and look at level 50 tank armor sets. They're quite heavy looking. All of the armor looks metallic overall from 1-50.
It started with World of Darkness where everything started having skirts...we're in full on dresses now.
Male armor also has enlarged bust

Are you? hes complaining that all armor sets don't match his personal taste. Also, how in the world is it a waste? It's why they give us the option to glamour, so that everyone can have the look they want... this is vertical progression, you work towards those sets for the increased stats, if you like the way they look, so much the better. If the way you look is paramount to all else, find the look you want and glamour it, or play the role that has it.
And venom, its hard not to have a little bit of an eye roll when there are soooo many tin can sets in game. There are only so many variations you can have on a tin can, before the obvious way to branch out is to make them more fanciful. The point is not missed at all, he is too cheap to buy some glamour prisms, so he wants sets that he finds appealing and screw the rest.
Also, how is the new gear not masculine, Gordian is tin can, as well as the 220 gear, Midan is pretty bad ass, even hellfire is nice (aside from the back spikes.). Almost all of the crafted gear is tin can, also, his class, Warrior, has pretty much the most bad ass class armor in the game. So the Aery and VA sets have skirts/kilts... everything is tunring people into cross dressers!
Strange. I didn't know you had to stand or dress a certain way to be a man.
I've long accepted that they design gear around female characters first, with male characters as an afterthought.
It's why I'm never surprised to see new gear coming across as feminine. Fortunately, been using most of my set since the dawn of ARR.
Much like how Ifrit and Leviathan are know for THEIR iconic high heels, yes.
I mean, we can pretend that this was a brave move on SE's part to challenge gender roles or whatever. We could also go with that whole "Men wore high heels once, they were obviously trying to be historically accurate with their gear and chose their giant elemental monster armor to do that" angle. Pretty sure that they just made female armor sets and sent them out though. Kind of like how they're having 12 jobs split 3 sets of gear here too. Maybe they don't have enough people on the team, maybe they're just lazy. Whhhoo's to say?
lmao such fragile masculinity in this thread. flamboyant character design is basically an SE hallmark at this point. have u guys considered: playing a different game? I hear there's another popular fantasy genre that also has its own mmo now. you can even be a tin can caster.
Kinda reminded me of this
I dont think either of them are known for wearing clothes, maybe those roles should just get "The emperors new" for their sets.
What, is it really that bad for one or two sets to have some heels? Is it really that challanging to gender roles that couple sets out of dozens have a little heel...
And yes, it has been said the 4 sets is lazy, and yes it has been said they are under staffed, (rumor has been around for a while now that yoshi and SE pres are at odds over budgeting), but this has essentially been "The Glamour" patch, so much opened to dye, on top of three new sets per class... so its not like SE is say "hahaha, you will dress like a girl, there is no other option!"
Sorry, my fault for being lazy and not quoting the other posts I saw when I was skimming the thread. That part was for other posts I saw that respectively brought up those points.
My original point was basically just that it's kind of frustrating playing a male mage in this game when it feels like a lot of the gear wasn't made for you. I'm at least lucky enough to play a SCH so I can fall back on my eso gear for the most part. AST dudes must be feeling it pretty bad right now considering that their last armor set was a straight up dress.
Not a typo by the way. Look at the number of jobs I listed. DRG gets their own so I didn't put them on there. The other 12 only have 3 between them.
it does feel like sometimes the healer outfits were made for females characters in mind then making it for males. eso healer gear is a good example of this.
There is a benifit to that as well though, don't over look that sharing sets, meaning that you only need one tank, or one healer, or one caster set. That was the way it worked in ARR as well aside from the original iconic set. It means I don't have to choose between my PLD/WAR/DRK for gear, or between my AST/WHM/SCH, or my SMN/BLM. Something that also hinders DRG.
All good on the "not quoting/lazy" part, its video game forums, not serious debate.
Besides, pretty much anything, in any game or irl, looks better on females, so hard to debate that.
Yeah that tank's lore armor for men is kinda awkward I think, that small exposed chest part is funny, made me giggle a bit.
I bloody love it.

But I don't think there's any issue with showin' a little chest on men ;3c
I kinda like that armor, maybe its just me though.
I don't see anything wrong with it, this is a fantasy game after all. Its nice to have such a wide variety of armor styles to pick from. If you really want something that fully covers you from head to toe in plate metal, the option is there.
I mean, I'm a Dragoon in a skimpy pirate outfit, for no reason other than that I enjoy the armor. From a practicality standpoint its ridiculous, theres no way a leather coat and thigh high boots would actually do anything for protection from a dragon. But hey.. I look awesome.
That tank/monk lore armor looks good for big pecs like highlander or roegadyn to show what usually women does. You know... showing cleavage?
Are you aware of the Magic Caster Curse? That all in Eorzea that play a Magic Caster will always have the ugliest gear ever created? The day I finally obtain the full Scylla set is the day I'll never care about Caster armor designs ever again.
When Artifiact Gear looks like garbage there is a big problem.
Because I was bored, here's every Esoteric and Lore piece worn by my Roegadyn character (at some point I forgot about the weapons).
Some look alright on him, but... most don't look good (and I have my Roe wearing some outrageous glamour, including pink, so I think that's saying much).
There is a simple solution here. Fantasia into a Lalafell. They look awesome no matter what gear they're wearing.
I'm not understanding all this hate to the OP. He never said take out the new gear, he only said to give more options to those who prefer armor looks. I think this is a completely fair request. I like the cool new clothes but some more armor sets like the tank wootz gear (replicated from ffxi) would be a very welcome addition to the game
