You can also place the Orchestrion in the FC rooms.

I would rather the music to play in house through the whole house like in a duty not silly mono positional...
Ah ok, didn't know this. Still I would prefer if the whole FC had access to everyone's music library, meaning they can see it on the list of songs rather then just waiting for that person to log on to change the song. Could task people with getting certain songs, and just split up the work of collecting the songs. For now my FC just sends it to one person who will be the Juke Box Hero.
Seeing as how it took us maybe 15 runs of T13 to get a single copy of answers, it's not entirely feasible to individually get a song for eveyone, especially when you need two copies of some songs for one song (answers requires thunderer, white raven and answers for example). While it's nice to not have to worry about unlocking it twice, it's still a bit of the burden when only one person can change the song (and it's not because of FC restrictions either)
The quality of the audio coming from the Orchestrion is quite low from what I've noticed, like poor quality speaks. The directional audio is really jarring when using headphones, I don't even use the Orchestrion because of it. Maybe have it as a togglable option? Cater to both kinds of players.
Which still doesn't help if one doesn't have an FC with a house. Nor does the whole "you can place them in personal houses too" ^^; But on the third hand, for those who have one, you can also use it with the 'free' orchestrion in the Inn room. But yeah, a portable one like Kaurie mentioned would be neat. Then again, this can be done through various music services outside of the game anyway ^^;
I don't either, and it still is really bad.
And if we want to talk about realism, then why is the sound cone of the speaker literally a straight line instead of being a... you know... cone, when you listen to it in this and go a mere step out of that line it dampens the sound tremendously like you've left the room... speakers DON'T work to an extreme degree like that. Not that realism is a logical reason to make the thing people actually desired this item for, terrible... this is a novelty and classic case of SE dismantling a simple thing in the interest of making something novelty or shiny instead.
Also, nobody wants a speaker, it will only add to the damned item limit as well as being yet another unnecessary amount of work to do something that could just be a simple thing... in this case, an option on the Orchestrion for either proximity or full BGM. That's what it should have been to begin with, that way the "immersive folk" and the "just BGM" folk are happy.
My biggest gripe is making it a crafted object. This would be better suited as something the housing merchants sell for a reasonable price, like the chocobo stable and gardens. I keep hesitating on buying one, because while I can afford it, I'm afraid it's going to plummet in price like it's already starting to.
The songs being crafted isn't too bad, because it's not as strict to get at least some of them made, and the spirit of doing content to get faded scrolls is nice.
As for the way the music plays in a room, I'm mixed. I kind of like that it has a distinct sound of being played on a device, but I do agree that there should be more settings to adjust, as well as an option to completely fill the room as if you were in that area for those who want it.
I'd also like to see a playlist option, or something where you can play one track after another without having to change them manually.
Super disappointed it's so gated behind crafting and airship ventures. I can do all the farming I like and not get the music ever because of this. It would have been fun if I could have just collected it myself via re-challenging old or forgotten content, but no, I just have to buy everything off the market board - boring. Too boring to even bother anymore.
Juke Box Hero eh? I kinda like the ring to it. But still, there's really tons of room for improvement for the Orchestrion system. As I'd mentioned before, and would raise it here again, I humbly request these changes (which I believe many would agree with me);
1. Give a radio button/check box option to toogle between ambient or directional (virtual) music mode.
2. Get THX to certified the directional music mode (aka upgrade it).
3. Allow players to store 5~10 songs on the jukebox as "Last played" or "Favorites" soundtracks. (Or just give individual jukebox an Orchestion Log as well)
4. For the love of Hydaelyn, please, please do something about CT/ST/WoD music scrolls. Either put one of the scrolls (from each tower) on NPC vendor to be purchase by gil, increase the drop rate to 100%, let it drop directly into inventory at some high drop rate (50% maybe?), make every boss eligible to drop the music sheet or something. Just do something to make it better please.
Hours long queue + 3 faded scroll per tower + non 100% roll-able drop rate + unlimited tradeable faded scroll (which means everyone will roll for it even if they already got them) = may Hydaelyn bless your soul and RNJesus be ever in your favor or go screw yourself over.
Oh, did I mentioned each tower drops 2 different kind of music scroll as well?
I think they need to add 2 options to the UI:
1) 'realistic' sound quality on/off (this would presumably toggle an audio filter that they're using since I can't imagine they'd have added all the extra music files to the game client when higher quality versions exist already).
2) directional audio fader (0% is omni-directional like BGM and 100% is what it is currently).
EDIT: some form of local memory for orchestrions would be pretty nice. I was considering the implications of tying the music to the machine and felt it would be detrimental to players with access to multiple machines and greatly decrease overall interest in collecting rolls, however, a local favorites or history of 5-10 songs would be a very welcome compromise.
Also the loudest BGM I've collected now only "The Dark's Embrace" (Generic dungeon HM's BGM) while the Pharos Sirius is really low.
Lets keep the feedback coming. I was really looking forward to collecting music but the poor quality has really dampened my excitement.
I do understand this feature needs some realism, but please, the directional audio is really complex; make it a stereo sound at all times, even if the volume decreases with some distance
And I just notice the towers doesn't actually drop multiple copies of music scroll per run, if it drop 2 of them it just means that it drop both different scroll from the same tower in that run. /shrugs
I'm glad I purchased the Ishgard roll to try it out in the inn room before I bothered getting an Orchestrion for the FC house. I know some of this has been brought up in this thread by others, but I'm adding my voice.
The sound needs to be projected just the same way the BGM is projected, not like it is now where the music comes through different speakers depending on the direction your character is facing at any given moment. It's distracting, and all that does is make me want to turn it off.
I've only tried it in the inn room, but is the selection not permanent? I selected the music roll and then left the inn room and returned, and the default inn music was back. Why bother if it's not a semi-permanent setting? Honestly, that's just too much hassle. I want to find music I like (Ishgard works) and set it and forget it until I'm tired of listening to it. The Orchestrion should remember which music you have set, and should play it upon your return to the inn room (or house).
Until these issues are corrected, I can't see spending any time at all to collect more music rolls.
I can do that in my house... the whole house is wired for sound with speakers built into the ceiling in every room with a central control. It's not like this is unheard of...
Beside that, this is a fantasy video game. The music in this game is exceptional, and we should be able to hear it everywhere with the same quality if we so desire.
I think you misunderstand what I mean.
By "permanent" I mean, is the Orchestrion playing the same music when you re-enter the house or inn room that you selected before you left?
My experience says no. I chose a certain music roll, left the inn room, and when I returned the default inn room music was playing and the Orchestrion was not playing.
Haven't been to inn since 3.2, but the music does stay the same for personal/fc housing. This is probably due to the fact that inn doesn't actually retain any data once you leave the room.
Please, please, please change the tower scrolls from rollable to individual drop directly into inventory. It's depressing enough to finish a run losing the roll on the scroll or not even seeing it. And on Tonberry server there's even a player showing off the fact that he/her have the scroll by putting it on mb for 100 mil...
I don't have an 1000 watt Z5500 Dolby DTS/THX 5.1 computer speakers with a Clareon HT Omega sound card to not hear awesome sound quality..
Yeah, I came here to suggest this. I've been trying to get those songs but it's not happening. I've managed to enter WoD a grand total of TWO times since the update rolled (and I've been trying often), when you're in it takes forever, and when and if it drops one of the two musics you'll have to win it against 7 other people. I'm ok with scrolls that are harder to collect than others but these are ridiculous; each of those music sheets goes for tens of millions of gils in the market board because they're so difficult to obtain, I'd have a way easier time going after Answers. It's way too unbalanced.
Make the drop rate 100% maybe, like the Sands and Oils of time. Have multiple scrolls drop per chest, or have them drop directly to people's inventory. Maybe even add them to the Archmage's weekly quest reward, so we actually have a reason to do that again. Anything but do something about it, they're ridiculously hard to obtain compared to other music tracks supposed to be harder.
I think dropping it directly into individual player's inventory and making both the third and fourth boss drops the music sheet should be sufficient until they tailor the towers for 8 man party.
Also, be careful what you wish for. In before they put the scrolls into the 4th chest and make you roll against the entire raid.
Could really use some official respond regarding the virtual surround sound and tower's orchestion drop about now...
No Shuffle option!?
How do you shuffle a looping background music? It doesn't really end.
You might make it work by having the orchestrion play a different song each time you enter your home, but what if there are multiple people inside? Will everyone hear a different BGM? There's too many problem for a feature that's not really needed, I think...
You could have it change every 10 minutes, or every hour, or once a day.
The real issue is, what list would it shuffle off of? I would imagine that, given that the track list is held by the player, and not the Orchestrion itself, there would be some technical issues with finding the tracks it was supposed to shuffle through.
It would be nice if SE made some changes for the Orchestrion system in the upcoming patch, but I'm not going to hold my breath for it.
Well, they did make some changes to the Orchestrion system in this patch (3.21), just.... not any really important ones ^^;
Fixed the following:
An issue wherein certain descriptions in Where to Find on the Orchestrion List were incorrect.
An issue wherein using the Out of the Labyrinth Orchestrion Roll granted players the incorrect roll.
And also made (some) faded rolls findable in both Normal and Hard Mode version of dungeons.
So, yeah. Changes. Just not any significant ones ^^;
Yeah... I shrug when I saw the patch notes... Didn't had any hopes up so it's fine.
On the bright side, I finally got my first tower scroll after 2 weeks of farming! \o/
8 more to go... /slit wrist
Buying Tumbling Down and Hunger Orchestrion Roll on Tonberry~ Please drop me a tell if you are interested in selling :x
Is there a way to tell which grade of orchestrion roll is needed per each copy?
