End Game- What is considered a lot of Gil?

Always wonder what the average is. i see some people say/claim they only have a few hundred k, others say they have a few mill, others have alot more.

Personally i would say gil isn't really that relevant in this game. After you have a house and stuff, what are you gonna spend it on? i rarely spend any money and i prefer to get stuff my self unless peopl sell it stupidly cheap on the MB xD

if you have anywhere upto 10mil your probs average joe dow/m, causal gatherer / crafter.

crafters will probs have upto 50mil gil if they are consistently crafting.

long term crafters like myself who quit crafting for profit at 200-300mil most likely. long term still going strong crafters 500mil+.

personally i would say rich is knowing that if you need gil you know how to make it and how much time it will take for you to reach your goal.

but yeah after fixing stuff and teleports gil is for collectors, ie minions mounts glam that sort of thing.. if you dont care for those you just dont need more than a couple mil over the next few years.

and all you need to fund that endeavor is roulettes or 10mins gathering a stack of the right item to sell on the mb

all depends on how rampant RMT is on your server. The more it is the less value gil holds, prices on the MB are higher, and a crafter/gatherer who knows how to play the market can accumulate a lot of gil.

I usually sit in the 1-5m bracket, which is low-mid I think

I disagree, I see gil as a universal "token" that has no weekly cap and can be used to buy almost anything in the game.

Just came back to the game after a hiatus/leveled a new class/hate Midas Normal with the burning passion of a thousand suns and want to immediately jump into raiding/Endgame Crafting? Buy and overmeld a Crafted set.

Confident you can clear a trial with a good group but unable to find one due to that pesky bonus? Buy a carry/"incentivize" some competent friends for the clear.

Lost so many mounts that your soul can't take losing another drop? Offer a reward in exchange for everyone passing.

Want Midan gear but unable to get it due to poor/slow/no static? Buy a clear and drops.

Want to power level with good players/pop a queue quickly/grind old content that nobody wants to do? Offer a reward to a tank/healer/DPS for coming with you.

Having a ton of gil is by no means mandatory to enjoy the game, but it makes a ton of things faster/easier if used in the right way.

I'm really curious how the economies of the different worlds compare, i cant imagine anyone having close to 1 billion gil on my one. I'm closing in on 200m and find it somewhat hard to make real cash atm. The sky pirate market that made me millions has dried up almost completely.

If you're referring to frequency of sales rather than prices, it really depends on the number of Endgame Crafters on the server. If you're referring to what is considered a lot of gil, now THAT depends on server inflation and will vary drastically based on number of players/gold sellers.

For example, my server (Tonberry) has quite a few active Endgame Crafters (Including myself) and very few gold sellers (I couldn't even tell you the last time I got a tell or shout from one). After 3.2 hit I made a ton of gil, and I now hover around 70-80m. While some wouldn't consider 80m as "rich", our economy isn't NEARLY as inflated and gear/materia usually sells for 1/5 the price (Or less) when compared to other servers. Here are a few prices for comparison:

Eikon Gear - Anywhere from 120k for some accessories to 400k AT MOST for pieces such as chest/legs
Crafting Materia - Competence IV: 20k Cunning IV: 70k Command IV: 85-90k
Relic Items - While I don't recall all of them as they aren't my market, the most expensive is Adamantite Francesca at about 110k each

If we were to take into account inflation and assume our prices are 1/5 that oft other servers it would mean my 80m is actually around 400m, which is much closer to "rich" than others would think.

Using your own comparison to high price servers that would put me close to 500m and suddenly that 1 billion doesnt seem so much unrealistic.

While still annoying RMT spam isnt that bad here, 2-3 tells/shouts in an 8 hour session. The textwall recruitments for FC's are way more annoying.

I'm guessing i'll have to hit spiritbonding big time again :)
Or craft a few sets of eikon pieces after I get my second relic to 230.

oh i know the power of gil in the game but all those things you mentioned are not neccesary.

yes it can be used to get you items in game extremely fast and help you power level (lucis tools and gc seal grinding spring to mind)

but you can also do all that with very little gil it will just take more time and effort.

its a dif approach to clearing tasks in game and ive used both methods.. i throw alot of gil at crafter tasks to speed them up. but then i spend a lot of time playing with friends and my static to clear 8man content.

either way could be considered valid as it takes time to accumlate the gil in the first place and if you have a lot youll know the best ways to use it that shorten the crazy grinds to barable grinds.

This gil has meaning to the extent that other people are willing to accept it as a medium of exchange, as there are only small intrinsic value to gil in the form of teleport/repairs/housing.

Gil's value derives from its acceptance by other players; yes, you created that value. If people stop giving it value, everything that crafters worked towards will become meaningless. However, as long as fake money keeps holding imaginery power over most people, gil can be relied on to get people to do things for you that they otherwise would not do.

Given sufficiently high volumes of money, these things are not at all limited by the market board. They include getting 7 people to spend hours of their time farming contents for you, paying someone else to give up their house, as well as free companies. If power is defined as the ability to effect change, then gil is power in this game.

Well that depends entirely on who you poll.

Crafting and gathering are both systems existing for no purpose other than to transfer gil from people who don't do that content to people who do via selling of items exclusive to crafting/gathering. That's why crafters and gatherers will, on average, be far richer than people who only play combat classes and why crafters scream bloody murder if crafting holds no appealing items for combat only players.

Combat is where most of the money in the system is actually generated. You get gil from the system for roulettes, AiN, mobs, hunts, quests etc. And that gil is created, rather than taken from another player, thus fueling inflation. Crafters create very little gil - they primarily do via leves, since other products are either used or sold to other players. If gathering and crafting were remotely as popular as combat, very little gil could be gained from it - not only because people would do the products themselves, but also because there would be far, far less money going around.

So in conclusion, you can bluntly put that gathering and crafting are systems to redistribute wealth. They work on the basis of unpopular/unenjoyable gameplay to reduce supply of goods in order to improve the efficiency of the redistribution function, from which they derive their value - their intrinsic value is low, like most niché designs.

I haven't played the game all that long... only about six months total since right before HW launched. I have no idea what to spend the 13+mil that I've amassed in that time on. I spent a long time at level 50 on my BRD class while I leveled all the DoL/DOH classes to 50 before going on to HW content. I craft everything once and sell what I don't use. I spent a bit on a small house for the FC, and recently bought a small plot for myself. I almost bought another small plot for myself this morning... but...

What the heck do people do with that many houses? Lol I can't even figure out how I really want to furnish my own and the FC house that I have now. /shrug I mean, with the aetheryte crystal there, it's a cheap way to get around, but probably not worth the gil I paid for the plot to begin with, right?

I guess there's just not much else I care to spend gil on. Okay, I would love to have the hunting hawk minion, but that's the sort of thing I won't ever actually buy, especially not at 13mil like it is on Diabolos atm. I don't know what it costs on other servers, but it seems like mine has a lot of gil floating about. Folks were comparing prices on the Eikon gear--well on Diabolos, the chests are like 1.2mil. :eek:

It's probably one of the easiest ways to make gil. Before it was gardening, now it's airships. Even if you don't want to make gil, you can just amass a ton of materia or other items. I know some crafters are doing this right now with crafting materia. That said, I've been too lazy to use my extra houses for that.

I personally intended to decorate my second house, but I never got around to it. Thinking of letting it go. Sadly, I don't think I'll be risking a sale. Shame, because I was going to sell it for less than the max price.

Yes these are some common questions. I know a few people who owns multiple houses, out of these I do not count the ones who buys plots just to flip for a profit. The ones that are left include people who wants extra gardens, who let their trusted friends hold their houses indefinitely, and who owns multiple one-man FCs for airships. I just happen to have several trusted friends who followed me from another server, and I bought them their house with the understanding that, if they ever leave or want to change houses, they would let their homes be refunded first with the 80% deposit returned to me.

Another thing to consider is that houses on tonberry are highly valuable because of the large population and low prices for most items on the market board. As a comparison, our crafted i220 chests would cost only around 300k each. This means that housing plots purchase price are actually very expensive compared to other items, and, as theres lots of demand, you cannot wait for plot depreciation. This makes holding onto them highly valuable. If you want to let go of them, you got to wait for the refund first since each gil is just so much more valuable here.

I know someone who has reached Gil cap twice over. I'd consider that a lot of gil lol.

Actually, crafting and gathering can generate gil ingame, gathering moreso than crafting. Scrip turn ins also generate gil and I find myself surprised by how fast it adds up from gatherer turn ins. Granted with crafting turn ins you're liable to spend more gil making the item than you receive for the turn in.
