Yeah, I like to think of Songstress as a combination of bard and dancer, in a way. I recently picked up the HD remaster of x/x-2 so i'm looking forward to playing it after i finish a few games I have in line before it :)

Screw your fighters, there's a sheperd class! *hype*
However it would be pretty nice to see Dancer as the next healer, I really want a more active buffer healer since I think AST didn't really fill that void. Something along the line of the Chanter from Aion would be great.
These jobs were Tanakas ideas iirc...
They would have been so cool.
I really hope Samurai isn't a tank, we've got enough 2h Tanks with big weapons as it is
I really hope Red mage, Dancer or Beastmaster aren't a tanks, we've none rags-wearing tanks with unclear main arms and it's good as it is.
Its interesting but I say they should bring Samurai (due to popular demand) and Red Mage so as to finally include all the original jobs from Final Fantasy 1 as well as give us a DPS with a sword.
Please, a DPS with a sword that is not samurai, SE. Please?
DPS with a sword and is not samurai may be either gunblade or indeed some kind of runefencer as Red mage will prbably look like.
Thou gunblade is rather 5.0 or 6.0 when MSQ will reach the point of annihilating Garlemald once and for all.
If there's going to be a new tank, it needs to use shields. Aside from casters using them at low levels, having it restricted to just GLA/PLD later levels seem kind of wierd. Could be spiked club w/ shield, or 1h axe w/ shield.
Spiked club could be great for blunt damage, and the class could also use the shield as an additional weapon to get hate. Hell, who wouldn't want to smash something with a giant club?
I hope for a the expansion that they have there be a berserker job as tank, some kinda sword dps class like maybe mystic knight or something new, and most likely a dancer as healer.
Samurai
Red Mage
Blue Mage
Dancer
Beastmaster
I'd love to see them all added to be honest.
If you google 4.0 jobs, apparently the same guy that leaked the 3.0 jobs leaked 4.0, so we should be getting:
1. RDM
2. SAM
3. IDS (Idol Singer)
and possibly BLU.
Apparently (queue up flame war) RDM is a tank. FLAME ON
3.0 stuff got leaked? How? They were pretty tight lipped on the reveals after Dark Knight. I don't venture far from here or Reddit (Blue Gartr is pretty dead as far as I'm concerned) so perhaps it's on a board I don't frequent.
I wonder if Idol singer is what Songstress was in FFX-2, figures SE would find a way to put that in.
Red Mage magical tank... so they're going to wear heavy armor then? That's going to be weird.
RDM as a tank makes total sense. Think about it. What job type deals melee damage and can self-heal regularly? PLD/WAR/DRK. DRK also has a ranged spell for enmity. I can see RDM having Rapier+Buckler and has self heals, and uses elementally charged sword attacks to debuff target and maintain hate. Their main stat could be VIT/INT unlike other tanks which are VIT/STR. Their weapon skills are casted like spells but have a 3y range. Animation is them slashing or thrusting with an elementally charged blade.
Osmotic Slash = RDM's Siphon Strike/Riot Blade
Draining Slash = RDM's Souleater
Poison Strike = RDM's Scourge/Goring Blade
Burning Blade = RDM's Fast Blade
Blizzard Blade= RDM's Savage Blade
Flat Blade = RDM's Shield Bash/Low Blow
Cooldowns:
Phalanx = Rampart
Wall = Sentinel
Chainspell = Swift Cast but for their weapon skills
Just a thought, but if Red Mage is indeed a tank, I wonder if they're going to take elements from Rune Fencers from previous games and just mold that into XIV specific Red Mage? We could give it the nickname "Rune Mage" haha.
Rune Fencer in XI could utilize dark and light runes for offensive and defensive (and was able to self cure, regenerate HP and MP as well as casting defensive buffs) and Red Mage is technically a pretty fencer type job. Honestly I can see them making it work, and they'll be the second shield job aside from Paladin. If they manage to make parry a skill worth having on top of shield blocks, Red Mage would be a welcome tank... of course DPS will still complain that another sword class ended up as a tank... but we could get Samurai as a DPS...
SAMURAI!!! [/TFS Nappa]
The lore almost writes itself, if Gyr Albania has some kind of ancient Aztec aesthetic with rune scribblings or even an Egyptian theme. Or... write in the symbols of the twelve can be harnessed as the very runes that give the Red Mage it's power.
Go for it Yoshi-P!
I'm rather curious as to what the "Mystic" would be about. And we are currently lacking jobs that wield clubs, whips, or quarterstaves, so those are potential routes in the next expansions.
It's a shame they fused Archer and Bard though, instead of having Bard armed with music itself. Wasted opportunity.
I don't like the idea of RDM tank because i fear the DRK drama all over again because i sure the tank RDM SE will indroduce is what Raubahn previewed in 3.2
this chart if from 1.0 they won't used it
Rune Fencer kinda came off like an upgraded Red Mage in FFXI. I can see these two jobs merging to be a tank. Either that or give RUN dual swords and, like you said, up parry. Or one shorter sword to act as the shield. Give RDMs foil type swords.
Samurai is life.
I always saw Rune Fencer/Mystic Knight as BLM... But with sword. Basically, utelizing the elemental wheel but for physical damage. I can't really remember tooling with them much in the games they are in, but the fantasy Arabian aethestic would be welcome.
The more I hear about Red Mage tank, the more excited I am for the prospect.
I would really love to see Red Mage as one of the next jobs! My FC mates have also been pretty hopeful about potentially seeing Blue Mage and Chemist. :)
Chemist would be a sweet throw-back, but I wonder what their weapon would be. As I recall, we've seen everything from knives, guns, and claws, all three of which have been used by current jobs.
Maybe the potions themselves could be weapons? Like mix up acids or other caustic chemicals to toss at enemies.
