I won't consider paying until after 2.0. So far, it seems like yoshi-p's team is just doing sidegrades. The game is still fairly wretched, it simply sucks in different ways now.
like 2 dungeons were added, but leves were destroyed. materia system is cool, but all my gear is being deleted. Thanks! You hose my jade hora +2 i bought the day before the item announcements and then tell me I get to pay you more REAL money for the pleasure.
I'm sorry but FUCK YOU SE
People play MMO's for different reasons I guess... I gotta say I would be seriously dissapointed if anyone I know quit simply because they had to start paying.
I mean you spend 4 hours a night in an MMO... but you won't pay 12 dollars for it? That is some seriously messed up priorities in my opinion (no way I would spend as much time in FFXIV as I do if I didn't think it was worth such a measly sum, I truly believe no one's time is that worthless).
I have no problem paying some € for this, I mean I spend much more money on crap every day like cigs etc. Plus we get to experience all the content that wont be there anymore from V2.0.
imo its way too early to charge... cmon, 2.0 is when the game is ready and thats when they should charge ppl...
bad move of SE, ppl start enjoying the game but the many changes are still to be balanced and there is a lot not working.
The fact that a working, faster UI will come in ONE YEAR? are you kidding? the UI and the server issues are BETA.
Trading stuff with other ppl, with retainer etc. TAKES AGES!!!!!
Even though i welcome a lot of the changes, engine, server stuff, ui, redesign... i don't wanna pay for missed out chances SE had developing that game in the first place.
So we pay to get one more battle in december then long time nothing.
So far the old content got more or less meaningless, due to other gear being superior... Are these issues gonna be adressed?
It seems SE is quite confident that what they did in the last patches is mostly working quite well.
There is a lot of tweaking needed. The current content needs to be balanced so its worth doin for a longer time as well.
So we pay for
- one worthless lvl 30 dungeon which is a copy paste of grids dungeon-like maps.
- another runaway lvl 50 instance which isnt worth a lot as well since crafted stuff is way better
- Ifrit battle
- some repetitive open world events like behest, - we follow chocobo - gets old after one day
so basicly its leveling and crafting, grinding materia and hoping for bigger things to come.
I think a lot of changes are good, don't get me wrong but its not enough by far to pay for it
Will not be paying sorry its stupid to pay fora unfinished game I check it out when the "actual" game releases next year back to eve online for me
They say between late November and early December. It looks like they'll actually start billing in January, which would make more sense to me. No one is going to pay for this game in November. Far too many other high profile titles coming out in November specifically.
For me, payment is out of the question this year. Too many other games in the next 2 months. If they're going to charge, I'll consider it in January.
im sorry, though with all that info and stuff im SUPER excited for the games future (heck i ene started logging on once in a while now) but to charge almost a year before some of the MAJOR changes is just foolish and asking for a very large portion of your audience to flat out forget the game and maybe not come back when its truely ready to be played (aka. version 2.0)
will i pay 13$ a month for what still really a beta...not likely. there is still too many basic functions that suck or need to be added. I just cant belive they would tell you "hey the game will be totally awsome and revamped next year will all new graphics, world, races, classes..ect....but can you pay us while we fix it for the next year...thanks!"
if you think the already pretty small playerbase on each server will NOT drop drasically when they charge, your living in a dream world.....time to wake up.
il pay when its the game you as the new devs intended it to be.....FFXIV version 2.0
I don't bother with things that aren't worth my time.
FFXIV is worth my time obviously (and yours if you got at least one class to 50), but it's not worth your 12 dollars? I don't understand that. Do you normally waste a lot of your time doing things that are worthless to you?
when it goes from free entertainment to entertainment you pay for their is a big difference, especially when they want you to pay for a game thats truly still in beta until some of these obvious major changes come 2.0
the servers are going to take a HUGE hit if they go ahead with charging that soon.
FFXIV 2.0 looks really promising. I don't understand though why I am being asked to pay for a game which will essentially not exist in a years time. The new game will be exactly that, a new game. Why am I being asked to pay to be a beta player. SE says it has 250 people working on the project. Well to be honest they have thousands more that are beta testers, us. And we are to pay to be beta testers? I'm sorry but no. I played xi for years, I stuck by this since launch. I invested heavily in a new rig to play it. Like most of us I have a real love for FF mmo's but this is something I don't feel I can support. I don't begrudge paying to play a game, but not under these circumstances.
iam gonna pay subs if they implement faris wyvern from ff5 that you can actually ride and eat chocobo,s to fuel the wyvern fuel/belly.the more your mount eats chocobo the more it can fly~
This sentence alone makes this thread best in the recent history.
For being a "weight on their shoulders" they sure put time and effort into this game just to "keep it alive". How does that even work? You sure as hell aren't paying them a dime. You are using their service and that doesn't help them in the slightest.
People play this game because they like playing it. For some who knows what reason- don't ask me. Nobody forces them to stick around. They aren't obliged to stick around. They do it because they enjoy the game.
Mask it behind "helping SE" or whatever bullshit reason you can come up with, but nobody plays this for anyone but themselves.
When I bought FFXIV I planned to pay for it. The issues disturbed me but I figured it would get better. The free subscription for a year surprised and pleased me. Now I enjoy the game many hours. The issues that disturbed me are mostly gone.
I do plan to pay for this game. The Dev team has responded greatly to the challenge. They've responded to the 3 things I need in an MMO 1) Content, 2) Content and 3) Content. The future pics and concept art show that FFXIV plans to roll out more Content and without dumbing down the graphical appeal. Woohoo!
Here's my $12.00, one for every month I played free. You deserve it. ^^
Paying for the box doesn't mean you "stayed around to keep the game alive". Most people bought the box and moved on (BECAUSE THE GAME WAS A BROKEN MESS). Some people stuck around but it has nothing to do with carrying the weight of this game's failures on their shoulders. They are not obliged to do anything, especially for an international company. Even claiming the opposite is as retarded as it gets.
no but us paying for a game that is broken and is now being change into a 2.0 version was their way of not losing pretty much their entire playerbase. If they were still in beta up until 2.0, then noone could cry, but we can because we spent money and they promised to fix it.
So, they make a ton of promises and expect us to pay them money in the hopes that it will roll out smoothly and quickly? After it took them a year to add just chocobos? That's too much faith they are asking for, we made the plunge once and got burned, they can't seriously expect us to take the same leap of faith again.
And SE paid 12 month's worth of wages for 250 developers and server costs.Quote:
We did pay :/
They left a mess in 2010 and made you pay for a pile of crap,
but they've been working diligently to clean it up for 12 months.
Fair enough pricing.
Luckily, they can't force you to. Be smart and leave!Quote:

I will stay.
wait....
Hell YES I will stay.
Much better sentiment.
Show attributes on food and make food more effective in game and i'll pay...I promise :)
Nobody wants to shell out money when they've been getting something free forever, but it had to come. I'd imagine they're starting to charge us now as a way of funding all the changes they are working on in the next year. ~$10 a month for something that will have a ton of stuff to do not only now, but especially in a year, isn't a lot to pay. You pay $10-15 on other things without even thinking about it. ie, fast food meal, going out to eat, going to a movie etc. Except in this case you're paying $10 for a whole month's worth of stuff to do, as well as funding the company to enable them to give us these incredible changes they have planned. Worth it to me.
Are you sure? The OP is pretty much describing that the Japanese Yakuza came to his house and pointed a gun on his head, forcing him to play this game until today, for the sake of keeping the game alive.
That, or like any other individual in today's society, he felt empathy towards this multi-national corporation and simply wanted to help them out because he is such a caring person. To him, SE is like a big baby that needs nurturing, so he will do everything in his power to make him grow big and strong.
Now we're on the teenage phase though.
We knew this day was coming sometime.
Reviewers will be harsh about this news, but that's perfectly fair. New players would probably not be happy to get started until the rest of the patches are done over the course of 2012.
The PS3 version is really the make-or-break moment that the general population can sink their teeth into anyway... and if you don't have the patience for that... well, you're probably playing the game already, and you're also probably willing to pay even at the halfway mark in the game's recovery.
I expect some people may fall off for the next year, if not for good, but they've probably made their minds up about that long ago. That will leave the serious, paying customers who will (probably) be in it for the long haul.
I just don't feel comfortable paying for it because they made promises and feel we should.
Give us this so-called FFXIV 2.0 and then I'll pay, not before. To ask us to pay just because they say it's coming is outlandish and akin to the FFXIV launch.
Good decision, and both parties are satisfied. Why do you make it seem like this is such a hard decision to make though? Blink your eyes twice if Yakuza is holding a knife on your neck to say that, and I'll call the cops.Quote:

Inc fanboi sigs of "I paid for this game before 2.0 I'm better than you". You know who you are!
If you read the PDFs it pretty much says that.
"For those of you who start P2Ping now you'll be able to experience the storyline leading up to the 2.0 overhaul! BUT ONLY CURRENT ADVENTURERS."
Hopefully they won't start charging before we see some of those storylines. If they do, that'll be a even bigger slap in the face. Deal with a bad game for a year, as soon as it shows the first signs of being interesting, CHARGE MONEY.
you would think knowing they want us to pay for the inferior version of the game they would at least only have us pay less of a price until 2.0. SE if your going to slap us, at least put on a soft glove (like making us pay 5$ a month instead of 13$)
Then why does it coincide with the announcement of FFXIV-2.0?
Surely they could of done this earlier or later.
That's why it feels that they do it with this big flashy announcement of promises to get the gullible people to pay before there's any real proof of these changes.
As said, it's insulting. It's not a matter of will I pay or not, it's a matter of it being wrong.
