Actually, Star wars galaxies was completely changed in a process called "new game enhancements" and they bled subscriptions because the player base hated it. the game pretty much died.

But that was changing an in place game, this is an update to a beta

Okay now I think my brain is working again. After my speechless post on page one, lolol..
Oh man. This looks AMAZING. All that concept art is gorgeous (Highlander females! YESS!) and while the UI in that screenshot is.. intimidating at first, it seems really amazing too. I noticed this in the outline:

appearance of their characters upon the implementation of the new engine.

I just hope it doesn't completely change/remove the current customization options we have now, 'cause I like my heterochromia and scars on my Miqo'te, l-lol. But that's a totally minor concern.

This is.. a lot to look forward to. I feel like I did before XIV was originally released, hyped and waiting for any more bits of news and information.

so the engine rebuild and ui redesign will be from patch 1.20 to 1.22 right? so around april version 2.0 will be complete?.

if Yoshi just said the game was halfway to being an actual Final Fantasy, and the massive overhaul to the essentially new game of 2.0 is in April, why are they going to require subscriptions 5 months prior to that?

Being able to change the face/hair/sex is pretty cool, but it gives me a problem.

You didnt read? v2 isnt even till near end of 2012 lol it even says distribution in the timeline with ps3 beta a year from now.

I generally keep my posting to a minimum because... well, it doesn't matter because this is a monumental moment in FFXIV's history. I dare say this is the game we've been wanting since we first heard about FFXIV oh-so-long ago and the game we've been wishing we were playing for the last year.

I am absolutely blown away at what I've just seen.

Bravo Yoshi-P and the FFXIV team. You've shown us the game we've been clamoring for and I think I speak for the majority when I say we're damn excited. I really hope they stay on schedule and meet these lofty goals because fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice... well, don't fool me twice SE.

What I'm worried about is if Square-Enix will be working "backwards" by using a PS3 optimized engine and backporting it to PC. I would HATE to be playing a console port MMO. I've already dealt with that playing Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst and Phantasy Star Universe. FFXI also was designed with the consoles in mind with some afterthought for the PC. I hope with the use of their new engine the graphics won't be downscaled/lowered to accommodate for the PS3 and not keep PCs in mind. They need to properly optimize for PC and keep the graphics looking good while also downscaling for the PS3 and keep that end of the population happy.
