This event.... many many many many great memories from FFXI. There were a few inconsistencies that slighty bothered me. Serket should've been put where the Rank 2.3 Dragon was because Serket is from Garlaige Citadel (Garbage S**tadel as us FFXI players called it). The Dragon should've been in at least one of the low level Amalj'aa or some other beastmen stronghold. But other than that, really enjoyed the event. Even the demons at Haukke Manor (aka Castle Zvahl Keep). ^_^
The fact that she just solo Light Skillchain..... That seriously just warmed my heart. I would do love doing that as my SAM. v.v Dammit SE, give me my job already!
not everyone played ff11, but it was implied i thought.
and the mobs locations made sence due to garliage being in a baren plains area, amd that was the giddues dragon, spotter/dread was from giddues which was near windurts nym/ bronze lake was our version of windurts.
I liked all the lil jokes, like killing crabs to train. mobs that check impossible to gauge then showcasing character pics and cs. I pretty much started to cry, wjem that came up.
After this quest and the accompanying videos on this thread I've discovered there's a void in my heart. A sudden realization dawned on me that at one point that I logged into a game to get lost for hours in immersion and adventure. Now I log on mostly to not lose my house... I hope it's just growing up cause guh it hurts >_<
I just wish it had been a little longer, I was just beginning to enjoy it when it ended. Will there be more little parts coming over time?
No, that was it.
I'm really really really seriously considering firing up my FFXI character. I never did finish Dharp to 99 (I got Gjallarhorn there though.) I got tired of the grind, tired of updating a LUA file any time a piece of gear dropped, tired of needing help to do ANYTHING since I was a singing bard. Then when my static announced they were going on indefinite break last December, I quit for good.
I think I need to patch up and log back in to Bismarck. Maybe find a LS of other XIV players?
I've been waiting for my boyfriend, or his friend to finish the last XI story quests so I can answer just this question. If anyone else has finishes the story line in XI please let me know.
The last chapter looks like its called "Gone but not forgotten", IDK man, idk.
it freaking got me too... almost to tears of nostalgia, the mobs used in fates, music, the ending, the locations used, and...
*spoilers*

the freaking time at the end when she said you resembled her "master" ... it got me, it made me feel like I abandoned Vanadiel since my actual glamour is almost the same as my char looked when I played FFXI (just look my avatar and signature), is now my head cannon that my FFXIV char jumped from XI an lost her memories...
Damn you Yoshi...
I honestly wish I was able to get the nostalgia from it, but unfortunately I never played FFXI. I still enjoyed the event, though, especially the battle music.
So like I said yesterday, I knew I'd get the feels when doing the event. Not only I got teary, I actually cried. So many memories that shaped who I am, I actually learned life lessons in that game from my experiences (bad and good) from people I met there.. I'm a bit mad/upset at SE because they decided to take the game to a different direction on Adoulin and it saddens me that I gave up on it since that. My LS also broke apart so there was no incentive to keep playing. Had my LS survived, I would probably still be playing it. I miss it sometimes but at the same time I have no incentive to keep playing due to my friends all gone. Trying to make a new chapter in FFXIV, but it's been hard, since I am not a super outgoing person and it takes me a bit to chat and bond with people, which FFXI facilitated since you had to do everything in group. FFXIV is too solo oriented it annoys me. It just isn't the same experience. I hope that changes soon, with Diadem. Hopefully my FC will start doing event schedules like the ol' times.
Same here. I didn't want to leave the game, but when my friends quit last winter, I didn't feel like I had any reason to keep going.Quote:

My wife and I got back to FFXI after we graduated college and got settled and could get life back into a routine...and everything was different. It was during the Abyssea releases and we could never catch up, so we just quietly phased out of the game. We resubbed to finish up storylines, but FFXIV kept us busy and the game was so different with too many different things to do we just unsubbed again and left it at that.
I met two of my best friends in the world on FFXI; and though I've not done the event yet, I guarantee that the waterworks will be flowing from the both of us when we do this event. I almost hesitate to start it because of the crying that's going to go on.
I little part of me was hoping to see Argus somewhere along the way there. I must of farmed that guy 30 times. smh. Also why wasn't this music in that fate with the eyeball/dragon? I was fully expecting that, I'm shocked they didn't use it..Almost like people doing this event really didn't understand much about the old content. Anyways I still enjoyed the event, it was fun.
On the funnier side, here's an old vid made by the guy who made "End of The World". As Vana'diel Turns. Always laughed back when I played.

LIGHTNING CRYSTALS!
So, did anyone notice anything familiar while fighting the first boss in Pharos Sirius Hard Mode? The animations used for the auto-attack look so familiar; they look like they're just slightly adjusted auto-attack animations used for the Hume in Final Fantasy XI.
That was not even the FIRST thing I noticed about the boss, too; his fighting stance is basically a Hume's when he has a sword and shield equipped.
Pinch me if I'm wrong/dreaming. =(
While I can't say much about the auto-attacks but I do agree his idle stance is very similar to the Hume Male stance.
The boss from Sirius HM looks a lot like Jailer of Fortitude from Sea in XI. Even his adds have Ghrah in the name.
Yea it's based off the boss from Chains of Promethia 8-2 mission which had hume, ball, spider, and bird form. u can see the adds use the other 3 forms in Pharos Sirius HM
I hadn't gotten that far in CoP. I've only gotten far a little in each of the expansions; I'm farthest in SoA.
Nice to see other references to XI besides the abundance of skills, monster models and such.
They should have called this event..
Final Fantasy 11 Epilogue
and the story is not over yet.
Actually, that's just the reused Jailer of Fortitude model.

Edit: beaten by a lot of people and by hours. Wow, I need to learn to refresh threads.
I never got the chance to REALLY play FFXI... I did get to like Level 11 - 14 and try to go Ninja and picked the Pugilist class first but the combat was so slow and it took so much longer to get anyway on foot (haven't unlocked Chocobo) and I dislike I couldn't solo for a bit longer and even then at the start you needed a party to take on below level 10 enemies. I mean it's nice to form parties and work together and I did meet some nice people that helped me and even got me the item to become an Ninja as soon as possible... but I just never came back after that.
I don't know why, I played on the Xbox 360 version when I saw the Ultimate Edition because when I first saw in when I was a kid I wanted to play it but sadly did not have the PCs to play it and my PS2 didn't have the connection cables to make it work so I silently never thought about it that much.
Then when I did play it I was a little dishearten that there was barely any customization for your Avatar and everyone seem to look a like a lot too much. I get on during the Abyss Arc I believe, can't recall...
But playing and finishing this Event for FFXI makes me wish I did get to fully play FFXI from start to end as the cutscenes alone filled my heart with joy to see so much love and joy put into FFXI's story and characters. Sigh... a shame really, but never still I can't play FFXI because of how "chunky" it was to me before but I will say it's story and lore is amazing. I seriously wish I got to play it in it's Golden Era.
Letting Iroha stay in Eorzea is a really neat way to keep Vana'diel's lore alive and possibly open to continuations (once XI gets its mobile release and/or in Grandmasters). It also makes XI and XIV forever connected, the two FF MMOs living parallel lives have finally met.
It brought back a lot of nostalgia for me, I never got to level cap though. I unlocked SMN and got a few of them but not much further than that. It took too long to find parties back when I played and sadly this led to me quitting. The music was lovely to hear again! Just a bit gutted I had no idea who the NPCs were. Maybe someday I'll play it to find out.
FFXI is currently on sale for ten bucks: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/van.../discount.html
i wanted my scorpion harness -cries big salty tears-
Sorry what event are you guys talking about?
This game makes me want to play FFXI, so I logged onto it, but within 10 minutes I do not even feel the urge to make my way through Ronfaure to San d'Oria >_>
