Binding primals to use as an aetheric source of energy constitutes as a Really Bad Idea. Not only do you make them upset in the event they are freed, they represent a constant drain on Hydalyen.
Making pacts with a voidsent is also a Really Bad Idea. Allag was also involved in bioengineering. If anything, the lessons to be learned are to avoid doing what the empire did.

Perhaps, but it seems to me that either Allag was trying to make a last ditch attempt that something of their history would still be relevant when they were gone. Either that or;
"Here's a great big solar panel! But you're not ready to use it yet, it might blow you all up. Have at it when you understand what you're doing It blew us all up too and we knew what we were doing? Yeah, um... oops?"
It's like they went into a panic when they were worried that there might be a future where Eorzea wouldn't need them any more.... Hmm..

We know that the Empire was tearing itself apart in a civil war during the last few years of its existence. Factions are inevitable, I think.

The Garleans sure don't think so, considering that it's worked for over a thousand years and serves to not only keep the primals in check, but to subdue them without any worry of them simply being resummoned.

I think it went unnecessarily far in the "oh, no, we can't lose the tower" direction to support that interpretation. If they truly thought us capable of surpassing them, one of our companions wouldn't have forced himself into a coma to keep the tower itself from being lost, since there would be no need. Tools can be rebuilt and replaced, but people can't. Whatever the intent, that action itself carries the implication that the tools are more important than the people who use them.

I think back on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, where the King of Hyrule tells Link and Tetra to found a new kingdom, one that isn't Hyrule, but their own. I get the feeling something like that, with Doga and Unei addressing G'raha, would have been more appropriate to send that particular message.

Xande was experiencing existential nihilism. After being revived by Amon, he concluded nothing he did was significant because he was going to die again. He came to the conclusion all existence is meaningless and activated Dalamud. The goal was to open the voidgate and allow the cloud in.

Dangerous stuff can be maintained and kept "safe", but somebody may eventually screw things up.

Both those tie into hubris. The technology to bind primals doesn't necessarily have to be used to bind primals. After all, nuclear fission was created to make a bomb, but we turned it into a clean and efficient form of energy. As I said, technology is neutral. It's just a tool, nothing more nothing less. It's HOW you use it.

And the whole incident with the Void was NOT the Allagan Empire, it was a madman's idea. You don't blame the many for the actions of a few.

I'm sorry, just... No. While nuclear power does have many advantages, the only thing "clean" about it is that it doesn't produce smoke. The solid waste left over from the fission process used by most reactors can stay radioactive for tens of millions of years, and "disposal" means little more than burying it somewhere, out of sight, out of mind.

If 2.0 zones are an indicator, then it'll just be a forgotten zone with Garlean and Tiamat.

Actually, there are reactors that reuse the waste producing a fraction of the refuse that less efficient reactors produce. The reasons for why these reactors aren't more widely used are many and varied, but the biggest one is that they recycle their waste (i.e. uranium mining operations aren't as hot to the idea given there'd be little demand for it otherwise). Not saying there isn't nuclear waste, just that it's a short-sighted argument against reactors.

Not to digress much further, but I will attempt to help your misconceptions and misunderstandings of the process. Firstly, high-level waste from a spent reactor rod is not solid, it's liquid. Secondly, the total decay of the leftover uranium given today's technology (the isotopes are much more pure than they were decades ago) may be "tens of millions of years" (depending on the isotope of course), but the level of danger is closer to 10,000 years. Now yes, that's still a very long stretch of time to worry about contamination, but know that high-level nuclear waste actually only accounts for <1% of the world's TOTAL radioactive waste. Most of it is actually low-level waste from the field of medicine. Due to both of these facts, nuclear energy is indeed very safe and clean.

Now, as for disposal, you are correct in that deep-tunnel operations were the norm for much of history. This was born out of necessity though. The technology to active destroy waste didn't exist and the previous method, which was dumping it in the ocean, lead to much more contamination. That being said, there have been huge advancements in vitrification the last 15 years, some processes showing a 90% reduction in volume. Then, of course, there's also the more expensive but safer route of firing it into space.

Sobering fun fact of the day: the loss of life due to the Fukushima Daiichi disaster is still less than the total projected accidental deaths that might have occurred if Japan had stuck with fossil-fuel based energy.

Somehow, vBulletin lost the addendum I made affirming that I was not saying anything against nuclear power, merely pointing out that it is not as free of drawbacks as you seemed to insinuate. Seeing as you have also done your homework and insist it's "clean and safe," sure, I'll give you that one, at least.
