I really like the AF2 and I'm eager to get my first piece this week, it's gonna be the robe. My only complain is that I want Raya-O-Senna's cane and I can't have one.
I actually like the WHM set the best out of the three healers. Sadly, I don't actually like to play the job though, so I won't be getting it.
Let me elaborate on why I really think that I will keep AF2 WHM gear as my glamour after I (finally) get the full set.
Artifact gear, what I've come to know, is supposed to capture the essence of the job it portrays, based on the most relevant class from the core of the final fantasy series. This was drawn out for us very well with the orignal artifact set that we got at the very end of our job quest line, and for a while, I thought that there wouldn't be too much that made me more happy to play, and look like a White Mage. I don't know about some of you, but when I'm not able to look like the class I'm playing (hello leveling gear), I feel that the immersion that the game provides is broken. However, when the AF2 concept was released, I drooled over it. The accentuations that SE touched up on to bring it from 2013 to 2015 I feel were spot on. The stitching in the back helped make the piece of gear less of a dress and more of a robe. The pants are really the piece I feel is the most lacking, as it was advertised as a skirt, but actually isn't, and you can't see the majority of the actual piece once you equip the rest of the set, but even alone, I feel like the touches improved over ... the shorts that we originally had (whoever said that the AF2 pants show leg is a liar; they do not.). But with both sets, the legs were never visible anyway, either covered up by the actual robe itself or by the boots you wear on top of them, which the new AF2 robe actually allows us to see this time, which is a huuuge plus for me. I agree overall that the hood is a bit odd with the rest of the ensemble, as it has never been portrayed insofar with it worn up (especially with how this game likes to deal with nonhuman ears), but it still settles the ensemble in my opinion and tells me >I am playing a white mage. Which brings me to the staff/cane/rod. This is my favorite piece of the set. While it may be vernacularly known as the "booby staff" (I also endearingly call it this <3), it symbolizes the White Mage's core job, which is to provide succor and new life to their allies (Benediction, Tetragrammaton, Asylum) by being their guardian angel. Not to mention it's gold. >3>
Contrary to popular opinion in this thread, I really love the AF2 gear that SE has created for us, and if the trend continues, I think that AF3 will be even better, and I can't wait to see where they take us next.
((PS: AST Eso gear is fucking cool and I wish I had done research before solidifying WHM as my main class. The robe and hat are to die for.))
At first i hated the SCH gear but after some time i started to love it...
AST gear was love at first sight
WHM though.... its...just....too simple....the hat is horrendous (sorry) the pants are meh... the boots are meh... the gloves are meh.... the robe in my opinion is the best part of the whole set (even the staff is meh, i see a LOT of WHMs around my server with a hive cane glamour) it could have been better >_>
I think that's the biggest thing for me (aside from hating the look of the fabric/fit). If I look at the original AF gear it had the little duck pouch, designs on the sleeves etc etc. The new one feels very lack luster in comparison. The arguably most detailed spots like the top of the gloves etc are completely covered up by a frumpy robe. Also does anyone else think the bottom of the boots resemble white ugs? Just saying.
Edit: Also, I don't think the staff is ugly but I would have loved to see a similar design (gold with the faint glowing bits) with a nature oriented theme. A tree or something.
Is there something wrong with that? That could fit in a way, given the nature of the job...
I can not believe the words of hate against the booby staff!
Also +1 for penis staff, just as long as its artistic and not floppy an purple
Lol I'm glad I'm not the only one notice this. Really, most robes pretty much share the same base look/design and only thing different is whatever filigree they want to put on it. Very uninspired. Doesn't help that caster/healer gear are just palette swapped versions
It's my favorite variation of the WHM robe, actually, and I love the long gloves and boots. They go nicely with other glams. But, I can understand why some might think it's plain and I wouldn't be opposed to a more unconventional variation of the design. Bravely Default's WHM looked great, but it looks too much like our PvP Elkstuff for SMN and SCH.
It's all better than a lot of the SCH stuff... especially the class outfit you get at 50 after completing the job questline. Ick.
I love that it gives off a very church like feel which feels like a perfect fit for Ishgards theme. I actually really like how it looks on men.
I'm a huge fan of the robes in this game since they have a very serious and classical fantasy feel to them.
Genuine question:
How do people feel about the FFXI WHM sets then? There was no robes, just briaults and pantaloons (tights and legwarmer things). But they still had the classic white and red triangle accents, just a little more stylized. Less so in the Empyrean (Orison) armor, but that set had a nicer (IMO) headpiece.
I personally feel like the original AF and cleric set already fulfilled the "traditional" feel with the robe, all it was missing was the hood. Which was there, but we weren't allowed to slip it over our heads; so it was useless. Now the devs have given WHMs something like a hood (more or less) to wear on our heads, but unfortunately I think it looks more like a medieval "wimple" or "barbette." I find it fairly unflattering, since in pretty much every Final Fantasy, on a Whitemage you could see the wearer's hair under their hood.
Tbh, I dont think anything but the head piece gives off a church feel. I really like the rest of the set for females. Better "churchie" stuff would be The Vaults set, also I cant remeber but maybe Dusk Vigils.
I think the WHM top will look great if the triangles stay red when you dye it jet black. Hopefully they dont turn white, as that would definatly steer it towards a nuns attire.
Most Ninja gear looks like pirate attire. I would rather have a staff with boobs on it than a ninja who looks like he belongs in Neverland
The only thing I don't like about WHM Eso set is the Helmet. The only thing I don't like about the Scholar Eso set is the Helmet, and I don't like the AST set at all on a Male.
As a giant male elf I...cant stand the armor. At the same time though, like...we are the nuns of the game. No one hits that description better <.<
I like the staff but at the same time I wish it had more effects on it then some small red glowy stuff.
Of all the...
Are you complaining that the gear meant to exemplify the style of a class which is designed to be a nun makes you look like a nun? Are you upset that the paladin esoteric gear makes you look like a knight? Are you upset that the machinist gear makes you look like a steampunk engineer?
The gear is designed to make you look like a white mage. White mages have always looked like that. If you don't want to look like a nun, there's a bunch of different armor to get.
Yes we are. Our class archetype even came from, straight up, Cleric. Down to white mages originally using hammers (and still did in FFXI), like warrior clerics did when they protected travelers. I'm glad we're finally starting to look the part, though I wish we had more holy attack spells to show for it.Quote:
Head gear: We're not nuns.
Of course not, that's not artifact armor. Those are robes meant to make you look like a healer, designed around Alexander's aesthetics. Why would that have the white mage look?
I don't get any of your arguments.
That being said, if you think it's ugly, then fine. I personally love it, and it's fine if you don't.
Not true, the whole white mage and white magic concept was always treated as a class related to nature, more like a druid than a priest. Unlike dragon quest, FF series is known for always treating empires and religious organizations as evil and something to stop.
The outfit was simply designed like that to fulfill one of the community long asked requests, hoods on WHM. And since this update is heavily surrounded by ishgard church lore they just sneaked the hood as a coif to stick with the theme. Having a normal hood would also make hair clip through everywhere so they sneaked it in as a coif, kept it lore and update friendly and avoided hair issue.
But I don't feel like it is. The only thing they share are a hood and cloak, which aren't unique visuals by any means. The cat ears are pretty big considering they're the only aesthetic that the sage class has carried between games.
Also the sage isn't an upgraded white mage. It's more like an upgraded red mage with powerful black and white magics.
Okay, in this game, sure. And that's what always bugged me about it. I wanted something like WoW's holy priest, which used almost exclusively holy spells. But they threw in that nature spot... which I like by itself, but I'd so much rather be using holy spells.
At least let me spam water spells instead of rock spells.

damn it, you're right. I'm trying to come up with a contrary example, but it's not happening.
Regardless, the theme was that those in power were dangerous and posed a threat. It wasn't that empires or religions themselves were bad. Mysidia was very religious, for instance. They were just so powerless that they were inconsequential.
I think the theme of white mage being a cleric was always there, though. They were obviously taken from the D&D cleric class, as was DQ's cleric class. But the core concept of the class may have diminished over the years.
It was this reason that I loved the... cowl? when leveling whm. I'd always HQ a set for myself and dye it white, and wore nothing else until cap. I don't know why we don't just do this.Quote:

So, how much longer until I can post replies like this without having to edit my post?
I love the esoterics white mage body but never did like the AF1 gear. I also don't have a problem with the booby staff, though personally I think the Nirvana Zeta and the Hive Cane are the best looking white mage weapons.
Seer/Devout, NOT Sage.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Seer
("upgrade" to White Mage)
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Sage
(a stronger "jack-of-all-trades" mage with lower stats)
Completely different jobs there.
TLDR
While I understand the whole traditional look to the WHM, SE should be able to make the gear a bit more diverse. Like why cant we get gear that mimics the Senna sibligs gear, that would look nice. Or even better the new gear Y'shtola wears.
I mean if you look at the FFIX WHM armour it was unique while still keeping the traditional WHM design.
"Like why cant we get gear that mimics the Senna sibligs gear, that would look nice. Or even better the new gear Y'shtola wears." omg that would be so good *-* pretty gear.. eso chest and staff.. hideous
Hmm, sometimes I feel as though I'm the only one amongst my friends that likes the WHM ESO gear, and this topic makes me wonder if that's not the case elsewhere, too. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a female, but the WHM gear looks so cute. >.<;
i actually like the nun look. i think it fits the white mage very well. admittedly it doesn't look as great on my male highlander as it does on other characters but that's ok.
white mages still have the best weapons tho. we get beautiful staves like the baldur cane, thavnairian cane, martial crook, nirvana, yagrush, swansgrace cane, serpent elite's wand, flame elite's wand, hive cane, alkalurops, gordian cane and it goes on.
I want Raya-O-Senna's cane. Did I say this already? Oh.
The only thing I don't like is not being able to show leg. If I'm gonna pay 2 weeks worth of tomes for a skirt, I want what I paid for. I got pants. Pants is not a skirt, and I feel cheated. :P
Speak yourself! I make the WHM gear look good :3
