Instead of trying to get more tanks to queue up in df, how about everyone try to help out with the queue time by tanking in df? :D
<---DRK that tanks in DF.
Have you ever considered this is not exclusive to tanks?
I got yelled at by a tank once before in Aurum vale for not healing well when he refused to do any single mechanic and i was just "supposed to heal through it".
Also, those replies are not only getting thrown your way because your class symbol is blue and i have a very hard time believing anyone would ever kick a tank tbh.
I agree with your last statement tough, there are rotten apples in every role/job/class.
Best to just ignore them and keep enjoying the game.
Everyone should have at least 1 tanking class at high lvl, preferably at lvl 60, so that when your df is taking long time to pop waiting for that last tank, you can take the initiative and actually BE that tank.
My main is AST, but I'm planning to lvl my MCH and WAR to 60 as well. Come on guys and gals, tanking is fun. :P
They get treated worst when they are worse. I am PLD and changed to NIN as another PLD tried to explain me that Titan needs an OT and flamed the whole time. Of course he ignored that he was not moving out of AoE, falling down.... so I decided to be a good DPS instead and only change to tank if it is really needed. And I never regret to change my job.
Small Story:
Yesterday I helped out a completly new archer from my FC in toto and his door bell was ringing so he followed me and I explained it to the group (healer also from my FC). As I am totally overgeared for that dungeon the DMG was just fine and I need to be carefull not to take aggro. What was the response from the TANK? Flaming that someone should leave while the door bell is ringing instead of going afk. I mean he was DK and not using aoe aggro once.... but a big mouth. So I pulled and tanked all mobs and mid bosses until he starts crying that I should let the tank do this. Well after I told him I would if he would be a "tank" and not only a puppet with huge life he was quite and really does his damn job.
You think this is special? Nope it is not! Why do you see more DPS jerks as TANKS? Cause there are the double amount of them in each party! So do the math: Double amount means also double chance for jerks....
Mostly for high level. No one will be running the 50 content much until the patch so they give xp.
Have you beeing playing this game?
While not in this thread in plenty of other threads we have tanks think they are some demigod and the others have to be grateful for their very presence.
Also, don't try to old man me. It's really annoying and a pointless argument.
Hint: been playing mmo's for as long.
What if you live in Tokyo? I guess because I only play as a tank I rarely get to see other tanks except for the 8 man content, which all I usually do for that is trial roulette. I don't bad mouth people at all I don't even get snippy at anyone, why? Its a game if I die I'm not going to go after the healer because I died, even if its clear that they messed up, but at that I'm usually to busy doing things to notice.
I only use the DF for runs, mainly roulette now and if I need to add some extra tomes. I have seen the comments though about how long the que took to get in, when I got in instantly. I never experienced it from the other side. Sometimes if I do an early morning trial run it takes a little bit but no more than 10 minutes. I do get some random requests sometimes from people to do a dungeon. I actually got one the other day from someone wanting to do a guildhest, I happily did it and I will do it for anyone who asks and I have the time to do it. We are not all this evil egotistical prima donnas people label us as, that can go for anyone. If they are like that, they were that way before playing as a tank.
Player 1: "I like to level up in dungeons via DF! Queue times are slow at times."
Player 2: "Want fast queue times go tank!"
Player 1: "Tank EXP transfers to my DPS! Sweet, thanks!"
lol
guys i asked if you were all having queue time issues not who's a jerk ;_; please don't fight
Oh, the horror.
Well you can blame that on the ''tank, dps, healer'' 'trinity'. If more classes could tank you would have more tanks available.
That would also solve the whole ''but I dont want to tank, its too frightening'' and ''Im the tank, you listen to me'' situation, if you ask me.
Because if you flood the game with tanks the role becomes a lot less important, tanks lose their diva spot, and people will care less that tanks screw up. (relatively, compared to other roles)
That said, with the current target market for MMOs im not sure if that would play out like that. Many people will look to someone else to be thescapegoatvanguard.
I don't really do dungeons, so I can't say. 5 or 10 minutes isnt a long time to queue for tho.
Wow. People really want to just hate on tanks, don't they?
I main tank, currently on a3s, and outside doing Alex story runs on DRK (mount points), I don't DF as a tank without company.
Why? The crap attitude of dps and heals. Complaining I don't pull enough (two melee who won't aoe and an ast) that I pull too many (two casters aoeing...but the sch wants to dps and let eos do everything, and only says something after letting me die). Complaining when I don't have mobs in the place they want them, boss turned a little, anything that's a tiny bit different than they want.
The crap is even worse for new tanks, who don't know dungeons well. If the tank is new, patience and some advice should be standard, not the rage and hate they get.
More likely scenario, I think:
*Four enter the dungeon, three of which could tank.*
Non-tank: Okay, who's gonna tank this one?
Proto-tank 1: Lawl not me. I didn't put together this L33T DPS gear just to let it rust while I tank!
Proto-tank 2: I don't like tanking. Count me out.
Proto-tank 3: I never learned any of the tanking skills, sorry.
*15 minutes later, no one has moved an inch*
Non-tank: Welp. *Vote abandon.*
Even in this "holy trinity* game where the tank/dps line is clearly divided, you STILL have gawdawful STR WARs who try to pretend that they're not tanks (well, to be fair, they DO succeed in failing to tank...). I doubt that giving more classes the ability to tank will significantly increase the number of players actually willing to tank.
And what was the role ratio from census slides again? Like more than half of all players are dps and the remainder was split between heals/tanks?
What are you queuing for?
I haven't noticed queue times being too bad for my SMN. (5-15 min Ex roulette, 1-5 min Alex NM)
Heal queue times for my WHM leveling is nearly instant for leveling roulette, high level roulette and trial roulette.
PvP Queue times are usually ~5 min.
To get back to the OP's topic:
I have noticed (on both healer and DPS roles) that the trend for me is that the estimated wait time will say something like 5 minutes, or even under 5 minutes, and I end up waiting 2-3 times that before the queue finally pops. This happens more often than it does not.
The point I was getting at earlier was out of all players the roles are dps = 62%/ heals and tanks = combined 38%. Not exactly very balanced when I only ever see other tanks on my server standing afk in endgame areas while you can't fart in eorzea without hitting 10 dps in the face lol
No thanks. I'd sooner gouge out my eyes with a filthy, rusty spork than queue as tank or healer in DF. I don't find tanking or healing boring, I just would rather NOT deal with the hassle (& harassment) of being in one of those roles. I get it enough as DPS. As much as I would like to become a decent tank for my FC & linkshells, just... I'll pass.
It's sad to see that you guys had some hard times with Tanks, but let's not put all of them in the same basket. I've seen lots of bad apples coming from Healers, DPS, and some Tanks, just like know-it-alls, allmighty, I don't care I can requeue super fast so don't tick me..Quote:

It's not the Job: it's the players behind the computer. Some lack education, single kid, spoiled that can think they can do whatever they want bec hey, Internet Anonymity.. (heck even older people cause, you know.. still the same old ;) )
Guess what: you've been treated like dirt? Report Button is there.
It's a pain to fill up, but eventually we'll get rid of some of them, while the other ones will learn the lessons, that this game requires teamwork, patience, and.. fun altogether.
Honestly, my reply was more a knee-jerk reaction to the victim playing card and using it as an excuse for being a dick yourself.
I know there are rotten apples in every role, i met them from all sides (even unspected ones like suddenly a person blowing up out of nowhere)
Those mentioning the 5 min estimated queue times, but getting 10-30 min waits, I've also experienced this as well. My best guess is that for the roulettes that allow players to join as parties, there are a lot more people logging on and running them as set groups instead of queueing individually. That way you'd get lower estimated queue times, but there isn't any available space in the groups that are queueing. Now, if that's not the case, the only thing that could be happening is a huge burst of players coming on in a very short time frame and queueing up. Those following the wave would get really low estimated queue times not representative of their actual wait time.
Sorry for the bump, but I wanted to let you know that the dev. team is currently looking into adjusting how the matching algorithm works, and they are currently aiming to implement this in Patch 3.1.
We would love to hear your feedback after these changes have been applied so we can further look into improving the queue times in the future to make playing even more enjoyable.
Zhexos.
Seriously, let's talk. There is no shortage of tanks in the game, but tanks are in short supply in DF and Duty Roulette. Everyone knows all the reasons why a lot of players who level a tank job, don't use it in Duty Finder. The problem is that the responsibility and stress that part time (and many full-time) tanks face in dungeons through DF/DR are not worth the return for doing it. The Adventurer in need function is a great idea, but the rewards do not scale well, and are not attracting tanks to run things in DF/DR pick-up groups.
I think you need to revamp the rewards for the Adventurer in Need bonus, and I don't mean shower players in seals or gil. What might work well would be a unique token system, call the tokens favors. You're doing the community a favor by running content as the class in need, so Favors seems an appropriate name. The Favors should accumulate and be tradeable for specific mounts, minions, glamor items and/or special titles.
Using Tomes, seals and/or gil as the primary reward requires that either the reward is made considerably richer, or that it becomes obtainable multiple times making it exploitable. A token reward system (Favors) on the other hand is harder to exploit, and new items can be added over time as rewards - such as, but not limited to rare dyes, and old gear items no longer obtainable, but still in the game, such as a real metal armor set for casters (as a glamor).
The Adventurer in Need system as it stands works well, if more tanks were attracted to DF, Q times would fall, and healers and DPS might even see their names mentioned as the adventurer in need.
In DCUO they had roleless buffs so if you didn't have role in the group, the group would get a buff.
fro example no tank- roleless buff would be - group takes less damage,
no healer- health regen slowly roleless buff
no dps- damage increase roleless buff
Of course ppl can have the optional to queue in for balanced group if desired.
Its a pain that we have to wait so long we content we know we can beat and we enjoy just b/c the DF becomes an unavoidable obstacle
.
This method solved the long que times for all content. FF14 has the population we just need the DF more customized to ensure a quick and enjoyable experience for everyone.
depend on what i m queuing
Crystal tower as usual between 1.5 hours to infinite
Daily Expert, pretty much with in 15min as DPS
High level, Main Scen, both my healer and DPS is about 5-30 min
Leveling about the same
i dont see queuing as Healer significant faster than DPS
and the average wait time is absurd, e.g. sometimes i get average wait time over 30min, but i get into a party with less than 5 min
sometimes it say average 5 min, i wait over 40 min to get a party
deal w it tbh fam
I waited as a tank for about five minutes for duty roulette this morning. Surprised me!
My queue times as dps and healer have been pretty decent lately. For the past few days I've registered, started to run beast tribe quests, and couldn't even get partway through the quest before the duty popped.
Let's just stop fighting how players like to play their classes and let DRG queue as tanks.
That'll fix everything. :D
I'm a WHM main, and I approve this message. It will make my DF runs interesting.
Regardless of levelling or max level queues, nothing's going to change because levelling through dungeons as a tank/healer isn't efficient anymore due to a few reasons:
1. FATEs and levequests are just much better for exp.
2. Chance of getting low/bad DPS players because it's Duty Finder.
3. More tanks/healers prefer to run with people they know (FC mates/Friends/Linkshells) than to gamble on the chance of point no.2
Does this apply to PvP queue's?
Right now the PvP queue doesn't seem like it prioritizes people who've queue'd first. Other people can get in before you, even if you've queue'd 30 minutes before them... The common "theory" to workaround this buggy(?) system right now is to un- queue and re-queue after 10-15 minutes until you get a pop.
It's probably completely unreasonable, but as someone who levels every single job and sometimes cares more about accomplishing the Duty than what role I'm going as, I would love a little more information about the actual queues. Solely for the purpose of getting in faster, I will swap to a job, bait the queue, withdraw, swap to a different job, and repeat, until I get a party or I've exhausted every role I can fill.
I couldn't tell you how many times I've swapped to the role requested by the "Adventurer in Need" bonus only for a different one to actually result in the instant queue.
Is there some way we could, upon queueing for a duty, see a window like the Party Finder that shows us how many are in the queue, what jobs (or at least what roles), what languages they're set to, things like that? Probably an immense computational cost, however.
Yes. Thats a very valid point I also wanted to say for a long time now.
2k Gil as bonus? On my 2 active played chars I do have together around 13kk Gil. Compared to others it is not much. But enough to let me think about "How should a 2k Gil bonus attract me to queue up?". I generate way more gil within less than 30 seconds by gathering. Even my retainers generate more Gil by ventures without any own effort by me.
Company Seals? I get more by exchanging all that loot I do get during a single instance run.
