The 18 hour ventures on battle class retainers really need an update. I get the same 2 items at level 60 than I was getting at level 50, even at ilvl 170+
The 60 botanist has either brought back a totally worthless rosemary, or lvl 50 logs.
The 60 fisher has brought back Aetherlouse and Silver Soverigns both equally notaminion :/
My miner brings back HQ raw diamonds at the highest possible venture level. I was getting those at level 50 too. <_<
Mine are lvl51 miner and botanist and mostly bring me back fish...
Rarely a dye, which is what I currently seek on QV but still get loads of fish. I can assume in my case of all QV I send them both out to in a day, the result is 80% random fish, 4% random food or ingredient, 4% a dye (rare or common), 1% some primal weapon or wolf gear, 1% anything not listed before, and the restant 10% is housing related.
I seriously don't understand all the fish spam.
My 50 archer Miqo'te retainer brought me sweet cream 18 times in a row. So last week I told her one more and I'd fantasia her butt.
She is now a Lalafell and hasn't brought me sweet cream once. In fact, right after the fantasia she brought me the Mog HM Monk/pug weapon.
I've gotten about 10 Fat cats over the past two months too from my fisher.
For me, I have grown so tired of my retainers giving me completely worthless items no matter which type of venture that I am intentionally running through my ventures so that I run out. I think the retainers going on exploration concept is dead and the only way that retainers can be useful is for us players to have them sell items that we obtain because they will never outdo the player.
I never use Quick Exploration and only use Field Exploration if I'm levelling one of them up. My gatherers mostly fetch me crystals unless I need specific mats, my FSH gets sharks, my DoW gets skins or whatever I currently need for crafting. I craft and/or sell what they bring back. Do one big crafting splurge a week, mostly making leather, cloth, lumber and food, whatever sells well really. I find it much less frustrating than a constant stream of fish and cottage roofs!
I wish their was a vendor in diddlyshire where we could trade one retainer only dye(metallic/pastel) for one of another colour. Bad enough I get a dye every 20-30th quick venture, but it's a pastel purple. Why can't I trade this for silver.
In Patch 3.1 we'll be introducing items that were introduced in Patch 3.0 to quick ventures.
I'm beginning to question my retainers myself.. Yesterday two of them brought me a dungeon seedling. Pretty weird item to bring me twice.. In the same time frame of ventures. It happened again today but this time I recieved two copper rings.
I've gotten some good stuff before but most of the time I get a fish. Kinda stupid when my retainers are decently geared.
My funniest have to be.
Check first retainer, Oh hai, heres a roofing tile. check second retainer. Pfft! thats nothing! heres a complete roof!
another time first retainer looking all happy hands me over a fish, 2nd retainer throws a lure at me as if to say "catch your own fish!"
exactly, you need to stop giving out the crap items at a certain point. You should really only get those at a low retainer level. Fully leveled retainers should only be bringing back similarly leveled items, and Heavensward stuff.
Also, why does everything have to wait for 3.1? If it's ready now, put it in.
I assume my retainer beat up a small child and stole her chocobo plushie. Then one day he ripped apart my neighbor's house and brought me his roof.
I just want more dye, or a reliable way of getting more dye. Specifically Pastel Pink dye. My battle retainers are on constant quick ventures for this. One day I think the same retainer brought back 4 ink quills.... :/
Mine like to bring me fish and the battered remains of other people's houses.
With the occasional pot of dye and bit of odd low-mid level gear. Even the i174 one. :/
My favorite was back in a Realm Reborn when my mining retainer brought me the White Raven Armor Fragment from turn 9. Though he had already proved he was talented by a few months earlier bringing me the crafting mat from Twintania.
My retainers like to rob and dismember people's houses apparently. Around 2/3 of the items they bring are like furniture and housing mats.
I guess that's what I get for Hiring a Moonkeeper and a Duskwight. >_> Ah well.
i have gotten so much random stuff from my 4 retainers from fish to a royal puppie and a random cannon and lots of primal weponds but i have never gotten the rare dyes :(
My retainers love bringing me back PvP gear. I wonder why...
Whether it's me being superstitious or not, i've noticed if i'm doing certain tasks in the game, my retainers bring me back stuff associated with what i was doing.
Example, making airship items eg, ingots, rings etc, my retainers started bringing me back stuff to make these items or the items themselves. Happened with a lot of other stuff as well.
I'm not saying it's aliens...but aliens.
i craft a lot and i need a high provision of deepeye tears, chimera manes, dhamel hides and other heavensward drop that you get one every 5 minutes if you farm yourself so i send my retainer hunters. i use my retainer miner for grade 2 topsoils, crystals and mythril/silver/cobalt ores when my inventory is low, and my retainer botanist for seeds, crystals, flax, cotton boll and other stuff i need for crafting.
I rarely have time to send them on quick exploration, there's always something else i need.
I've been getting kind of lucky with my retainers since 3.0! I just got a crag heart that sold for 2.5mil xD
I have a lvl 60 WAR and WHM that send out on 18 hour runs, Courel (sp) skins and sliver pieces is all I get these day. Pre Heavensward, Metallic Dyes and minions. Sitting on 300+ ventures. *sigh*
I have an ilv185ish LNC that I use to farm things that sell well and a BTN one that I send specifically if I need something otherwise I let her go for quick ventures. She is pretty random as expected: got from the infamous sea cucumber to dyes to Coil housing etc..
Lately though I'm sending them in the long ventures to bring back minions.

I just mostly do 18 hour ventures these days, at least then I can have a chance at a minion to sell and don't have to check it but once a day.
Gathering retainers are worth having at high level, since you can get minions that are only obtainable that way through them, and for a fishing retainer at least, you can occasionally get rare items that would normally take a lot of luck even after getting they myriad of weather and time conditions right. I've been using my fishing retainer to level my CUL desynth past that annoying point right before you can desynth HW fish, since otherwise I'd have hours of grinding ahead of me to do so......
Combat retainers on the other hand, yea, the ventures are pretty worthless. The only real use for them is to gather materials you can farm yourself pretty easily but are too lazy to do. Particularly since Quick Exploration isn't affected by gear, so post level 10 you have no point to level them if that's all you care about. Even Quick Exploration is pretty useless, since your chance of obtaining anything of value is practically non-existent......
In short, Gathering retainers have their uses, while combat ones are pretty worthless and really need to have SE look at them.....
My theory is the retainers keep all the good stuff they find for themselves. I mean why would companies have lost prevention and internal affairs department?
I knew these guys were up to no good the day I created them.
I just have one retainer doing jobs atm cause I am slacking on my tradeskills, but I have generally gotten a good number of dyes, but otherwise just alot of crap. Including common home building stuff, as if they brought me enough to even afford a home.
But yea as for the current problem, much like the current draught of new content because of no content patches, the retainers are stuck on day 0 3.0 mode so while they can be leveled to 60, they have no level 60 content enabled at all, and that sucks.
With the exception of *maybe* fishing retainers, I completely disagree at high level. Having a retainer go get you Chimera Manes or Deepeye Tears is leagues more useful than have them go get...Aurum Regis Sand? Dark Chestnut logs? The problem with gathering retainers for HW content is ALL THE PAIN IN THE @#$ stuff is HIDDEN or an Unspoiled/Legendary Node, hence retainers can't get them...
I almost feel like there should be two quick ventures, one for 2.0 and a second one for 3.0. To distinguish for new classes.
