Pretty much this, I don't mind wearing optimal gear, I wear OP gear all the time but the problem is that you could get gear a few lvls above your rank and still be fine thanks to level stats but now you get huge penalties from gear one or two ranks above you, wich means, I will have to buy/craft new gear every 3-5 ranks and we all know that some people like to overprice stuff in the wards. :/

Its just like most people have to replace 90% of their gear, I do too. Most of my shit is low level and I can craft it. It just kinda sucks being told "level a craft or be poor" There aren't any serious farming methods for battle classes to make money like there were in XI.

I don't craft or gather. My gil comes from leves and from selling all my crystals. I've managed to get by comfortably thus far, even though the 2.5mil I've saved up over the past year is chump change to a lot of people. :)

I don't think it will be too bad on new players anywho. Having a R50 craft and low battle classes isn't going to help too much since they FINALLY made the penalty for equipping over-ranked or unfavored gear real: no extra stats and less than half the def.

Just gonna have to go along at a normal pace.

I don't have a rank 50 Craft or 10m gil all my gear is "Dated" and I will survive. Hell I know people who don't have a single 50 that are as upset as the OP. Maybe it's just a melond thing but I haven't seen any items that are out of whack with the market.

Oh the poor new players, having to play the game in its current state must be so difficult. They'll never get to experience the AWESOMENESS that FF14 was prior to 1.18 & 1.19.

Recipe changes aside, I'm so happy I could burst. This game was pathetically simple until last night.

thats cause 3ds sucks, did you try it before you bought it. I played zelda at the store and my eyes couldn't even focus on the link. It gave me a headache in less then 5 minutes.

Eh...honestly...I don't care about the stat increases for armor. Sure, they're helpful. But if I'm wearing armor(or rather, robes in my case) that is 20 levels above my rank and it LOOKS cooler than my optimal rank gear...imma wear the cool stuff. ^_^

Sure, it makes things harder. And yes, I probably die more often than others...but I look awesome while doing so. XD

Don't complain when you can't solo 1 star leves at 10 ranks over the requirement.

You mean like almost every MMO? DERP HERP.

Most aren't like XIV was, where you can wear the same crap for 50% of the grind. And that's a terrible system. In most MMOs you want to upgrade your gear every few levels. New players will be fine after a little while. The market will equalize.

I'm about to start making some lower leved stuff again, especially since it's a lot easier to make.

Gear doesnt play a big role at starting levels. I am a pretty new player of FFXIV, and ive already managed to replace 80% of my gear.

EN forums is so full of negativity, im almost giving up checking up on new posts for info. Just whine/complaints all over. And I keep seeing the same posters, so it seems you spend more time on the forums, then you do ingame

You people make the point that people are selling items for far beyond what new players can pay. So who else do you think will buy them? There's only so many times existing players can be a lvl 5 Gladiator.

The market will be crap for a few days because people will be able to exploit a small portion of the population willing to pay the coin for this gear, but it will even itself out. Take economics or something.

What the hell is this gear problem everyone is talking about? The old gear is just fine as long as it is your level or below. It was asinine retarded to allow a lvl 30 to equip lvl 50 gear with reduced stats. My highest lvl is 31 and I'm not seeing any trouble whatsoever on that or any of my < lvl20 classes. Sure I can't solo a 4 Star leve anymore but I'm doing just fine on 2 stars or chain grinding =+ mobs.

Everyone seems to be smoking the same crack pipe around here. Patch is great, there is finally a remote challenge in playing this game.

Reread the post you are quoting me from. I wasn't talking about gear there, I was talking about it NOT being easier to level and chain mobs at low levels. At low levels, it is significantly harder to rank up because they nerfed the XP from leves and mobs, and dragged out the length of simple battles.

Name another MMO that allows your lvl20 to use something that is lvl21. I'm not waiting, because there is none. You don't HAVE to upgrade every three levels. Apparently you are unfamiliar with a craft driven, open market style of game. I'll help explain, There are DoW, DoM, DoH, DoL classes. The crafters level up and their reward is to sell stuff. The fighters level up and their reward is drops. The crafters can't make anything without the fighters and gatherers. The fighters can't fight without the crafted equipment. Some people play FFXIV strictly to craft and make money. So not buying things from them is just as bad as them over pricing it. Simple Economics dude.

I swear MMOs need an ESRB rating of: GPA:3.0+ or College Graduate

Bring me back pre 1.18 FFXIV!

I sympathize for the new players, hence why ive been crafting low level THM and CNJ +1 and +2 weapons and selling for about 15k a piece. I'm going to start working on weaver again and work my way up to making Felt Gear xD

I don't see why they couldn't have simply grandfathered everything over to the new gear setup. Instead of a mountain of SQL insert statements adding all the new gear to the database, they could have just used a mountain of update statements to fix the stats and add relevant data for materia and shit.

As a player who only has a level 30 Conjurer on a low population server as his highest level, I feel it's a fair statement that the change to items is effecting me the most. Sometimes in silly ways too. I went out mining the other day and had scads of copper ore but couldn't make ingots because for reasons unknown, Tin was absurdly uncommon. (I went and looked for gathering guides to try to find places to mine it but did not have much luck with that.) For whatever reason it seems silly to me to need level 20 mining to gear a level 15 gladiator, but perhaps after hours of scouring guides i was still doing it wrong.

As far as my hypothesis goes, it all started when the Gil reward for leves dropped. Players who had been playing since launch had gained allot of money from it and set up an economy based on that level of intake. Then suddenly gil became much harder to come by, especially for lower level players, but the prices for mid/low level gear didn't drop in the same proportion as Leve earnings. Now add to that that gear needs to be upgraded all the more frequently, gil is still scarce, and now gear is also scarce, It makes playing the lower end of the game very frustrating.

My hope is that the game will fix itself up nice and purtty and the PS3 launch will bring in enough new player base across the board that the level gap balances out and the economy becomes manageable for the lower end again.

Oh yes one last issue: it is hard to find people to do things with; linkshells seem fairly closed off to new low level players and without level appropriate gear and the new healing costs, soloing is far more difficult (sometimes near impossible.)

I have been playing a lot since 1.18 and I am only level 30 right now (thm is highest, 27~ conj)

I must say, I totally disagree with the people who think it's impossible to play or level up now. EXP chains are awesome, and we can fight mobs around our level which makes way more sense than always fighting something +10 levels.

The hit to gear was bad only for people who are covered in gear that was too high. My character is totally fine.

Itsnot that bad, wear stuff that fits your class and rank as u should anyway. Optimal was a bad idea. Money is too abundant pre 1.19. Theyre rightfully balancing stuff. Give it at least a week before bitching about this kind of stuff.

prices will stabilize hell colbolt ore went from like 20K gil each down to 5K gill each in a day, just have to give it some time and when the wards stabilize you will see a lot more items up which will bring prices down.
