Healing-wise on AST is not fixed, why can WHM and SCH spam heals all day and still outlast AST on mana?
There is a big reason not many people truly want an AST in their group. You can keep wanting to believe AST is fine, but it isn't.

I am looking forward to the changes they make to AST although I can play it perfectly fine, enjoy it very much and rarely have issues.
tbh I don't see eso weapon being a valid tome purchase as a healer unless you have access to a4 upgrade item. Weapon dmg shouldn't outweigh the gains on other pieces of gear. and if it's the same case with AST as it is for sch/whm, secondaries on eso are awful in comparison to hive.
Stats for the ESO weapons: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...m/8009d6f8df4/
Vitality +94 Mind +101 Piety +70 Spell Speed +92
Upgraded ESO is just better stats: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...m/8383c0dc743/
Vitality +103 Mind +109 Piety +80 Spell Speed +102
Edit: Also for comparison's sake, the 210 Savage Alex weapon:
Vitality +103 Mind +109 Piety +115 Determination +68 (Det??)
Compared to the Hive and upgraded Law:
Vitality +85 Mind +92 Critical Hit Rate +83 Spell Speed +58 (Hive)
Vitality +75 Mind +84 Piety +69 Critical Hit Rate +52 (180 law)
So it just depends on what you value more, Crit or Spell Speed. Has anyone figured out yet what is best? I suspect the Piety will be nice though. I currently have the upgraded Law weapon and just now noticed that the Hive weapon doesn't actually have any Piety. I don't have mana issues and I wonder if that's part of the reason why. Crit sounds nice as an idea but it's unreliable and I wonder how much you'll really see crits if you stack crit? On the other hand it's bigger heals for free, and while making our fast heals faster sounds nice, it will use up more mana (but we do have a bit of Piety on there). Dunno which stats are best, we'll have to see I guess.
Secondaries have a very small value atm, with the exception of crit on sch and brd. As a sch I had to chose between getting a ss pie weapon or a decent chest when i had a bad one, and it really just came down to the +15 mnd I got from the chest (with a very small defense buff) vs the +9 mnd from the weapon with 2 weapon damage. It really is just weapon damage vs primary stat.
O rly? Why is crit bad, and why is SS BiS? W/o reasons, testing, etc this is just a wild guess :o
Edit: Difference in Ravana Globe / Law Globe(+3 WPN-DMG) is at (w/o crits) :
Benefic 2: 89 more HP ...per heal
Benefic : 109 more HP...per heal
Did 20 Ben2 and 20Ben1 (with more values the number might even out a bit, yet i had to go ravana shortly after and had no time left :P)
General consensus for crit is that it is generally just overheal, but I stack it anyways because when my DPS spells crit I have the nastiest grin on my face. It's not necessarily bad, it's just not as "stable" in comparison to DET/SS. DET < SS though... I'm not quite sure. Maybe it's because we can reach high levels of SS over the 520'ish or whatever it is when it comes to DET.
As a general reminder, secondary stats got shot in the knees and have lower stat weights all across the board, for all classes.
I'm banking on the relic in 3.1 being a viable option in the short-to-mid term. Despite secondaries being of somewhat less concern at the moment, I'm not sacrificing what crit I have on my Hive Codex for that godawful i200 Elements book until it's definitely my biggest upgrade.
For AST I might have considered it as a first purchase because I care less about crit for healers other than SCH, but even in that case I probably would have prioritized the i200 chest piece since I don't plan on using the i190 chest for SCH.
Either way in the long run it's a trivial decision since we'll keep accumulating eso and will continue to see new content with horizontal progression (e.g. the Relic quest in 3.1 and the still-somewhat-secret new 24 man raid).
I've decided to dive head first into Astro for Savage. I've already spent Eso on Ast gear to ensure I keep up with my group in power level. I figure that if I really want to show Yoshi and his team that Ast needs help, I can't do it half-assed. I've already managed to clear A1S but it took a different way of thinking. Not sure if that's a good thing right now though.
I know of that consensus, yet I wonder, how much spell cast reduction will you reach with 863 SS (approx. maxxed out ss if you go full SS with i210 and w/o foodbuff). And tbh I highly doubt, that it will affect HoTs - especially on AST - that much, that it would be the go-to secondary.
Has any1 stacked SS and can provide some numbers (SS, DTR, Crit, MND)?
I ended buying the weapon, my thoughts are this. My other class for Healing is the SCH but the AF3 gear is garbage no crit at all the Hive weapon and a fair few prototype pieces have alot more of it so keeping those and getting more crit seems like a good idea, I dont have a white mage so the logical conclusion is to help buff my AST with as much ilevel as I can, this means the content becomes easier and I still have a good healing class with decent gear for its build to fall back onto if I find content too hard, but at least I will have AST as its best to give it a damn good try.
In a moment of weakness, I bought it. >w>
I use to main SCH, so I miss the Critical Hit. D;
@Staris
Piety will only ever be good if you're doing hard progression, it's not end game BiS. For now, with savage, yeah, sure. I also didn't make my statement as an AST main, if you'll note "if it's the same case...". Two weapon damage will not outweigh all of the stats (defense fromc hestpiece, even) you'd get from other pieces of gear unless two weapon dmg=upwards of 50-80 MND. I guess I should've said THE weapon damage, and not weapon damage as a general statement. It makes a difference for DPS classes because the outgoing velocity of.. well, DPS is a lot higher than your heals(HPS, I guess? This is a stupid term considering variables). I'd rather lose that 2 weapon dmg as sch and keep my hive stats vs that garbage combination. I don't need more PIE as a sch.
@leloni ".. unless you have access to a4 upgrade item."
Bought the Robe first because I don't want to do T4 for the next 4 weeks for a terrible robe. Probably going to get the Hat next not sure, not a big fan of the Eso Weapon stats.
I boght the Robe first too, next is the weapon <3
I bought the robe last week, and looking to buy the gloves or hat this week. I have my Hive weapon (all three healer weapons actually) so I'm in no rush to buy an Eso weapon right now.
If you had the Hive Weapon, it wasn't worth it to purchase your Eso weapon.
Personally, since I had one, I took the bonus in stats from the Body and Hat over getting the weapon because the stat increase was better and the glamor game is better. If you had an i180 weapon, though, you should've bought your eso weapon, yes.
