I'm all for a good laugh, but that wasn't even close to amusing in any way. Penny Arcade should stick to comic strips :p

I posted the link to show an outside view of FFXIV. I accept FFXIV is far from perfection but I love the direction the current team is taking it. Sadly, this game is going to need new players, at some point, to continue going. That video is the mindset that SE is going to have to fight against when the PS3 release comes out.

Exactly. Is there ANYONE besides the 30-50k people currently playing the game that have anything good to say about the game?

Yeah I didnt think so.

PS3 is gonna be a hard sell.

To be fair, anything on Penny-Arcade isn't always the brainchild of Jerry and Mike like Check Point and Extra Credits.

I still haven't been able to process the idea of EC being on Penny-Arcade. I still like their stuff though.

I don't think I've seen anyone hit on stuff like APB going back to the shop or the relative failure of DC Universe Online. It really does seem that the current hotness is to wail on Square-Enix.

At this point it's going to take A LOT more than more public promotion of the game by square to change people's minds about it. It's really hard for people to change their first impression.

Basically, you either like this game or you don't and have no reason to start.

Personally, I really like this game, flaws be damned! I'm excited to see where it's going and as long as the servers stay up I don't care how much the outside (and inside) communities hate and trash it, misinformed or not.

Actually, all it takes is a public mention of a game overhaul, lots of public interviews and in-game demos.

TL;Dr for the video:

Not sure why everyone is so sour about it honestly, most of what they are talking about is true. Other than the jabs at "why would anyone play a FF mmo" I think they're mostly correct.

This game will never lose the stigma it earned at launch no matter how much time and money they pump into redesigning it. It will chug along and do ok for many years I assume but will always be the wallflower of modern mmos.

Wait, they made a valid point about the fact that just now, over a year after release, 6 years of total development time, they're adding Chocobos, Airships, and other series mainstays to the game; you know, things that should have been there at the start of development, and available at launch. Well, we know that the game is better now compared to a year ago. And 1.19 will make it better. But that's the thing...only players know that. The general opinion is that FFXIV is a really really bad game.

.Let's hope SE does a good marketing campaign when it decides to charge for the game or when the PS3 version comes out.

Just a small tidbit

Wow, most of the comments here are what we see when players have their fanboy goggles on a bit too tight. Its all good when someone is poking fun at any other MMO than the one YOUR spending your time in, but as soon as some makes some jokes about what you are playing all of a sudden it becomes serious business!

The video was amusing, not laugh out loud funny, but I chuckled a few times. I though the 25 year old game manual was the funniest part. The only thing they got wrong imo opinion is the comment about open beta, it wasn't delayed, it was extended, thus far for a year longer than it should have been. :p and we still don't have an exact day for when it will end!

I couldn't get over that guys eyebrows >.<

Seriously, why is this game on more than 2 floppy disks? I only have 10MB of Hard Drive space...!

I find the Forza 5 joke funny.

Just watched the Checkpoint about this. Laughed like crazy. Why? Cause they're right. One year ago I paid 80$ for this game and it was a steaming pile of crap. Only now with the new changes like auto-attack, actual quests, etc etc etc, is this game bearable to play, and even though it's free, the server is a ghost town, and all the people in the linkshell I played with are gone.

q_q about the video all you want. I paid for this game too, and they're right about everything they said.

ESPECIALLY THE FLOPPY DISK ISSUE.

The video was absolutely crap, like basically everything else penny arcade produces. No surprises there.

Funny to see the (few, luckily, at least here) rabid haters defending this absolutely shameful and failed attempt to be funny by crapping on other people's work.

So, they just went off on a statement, and had no facts or examples to back up their claims.

Didn't know what they were talking about, and they have the TV personality of a stump.

After watching this video, I finally realized something: there was a good reason as to why Beavis & Butthead was a success as a cartoon. Watching their real life counterparts was just...awful!

Ahh, the butthurt is strong with this thread. Mostly valid points of the video completely nullified by eyebrows and failed attempts at humor. Never change, you guys. Never change.

Penny Arcade, you'll never be as good as 'Know Your Meme' as much as you try to be.
