Whoa, the music is so good I almost shed a tear of joy.
Not quite Hitoshi Sakimoto style, but then again, Hitoshi's music should belong strictly in the world of Ivalice. I certainly LOVE what i am hearing though! Nobuo's music isn't bad most of the tracks seemed a bit unfitting with eachother (not with the world, but that too) Some would be heavy bass and then others would be almost completely wind instruments.
If its one thing i like when it comes to video game music is being able to tell what game they come from, and I think iv'e just heard the future of FFXIV, and needless to say, I'm in love ^^
Now, I am really hoping Akihiko Yoshida sticks with the artwork for this game because he is my favorite! :D
Prefer this stuff to Uematsu's stuff, Kobold Camp music is awesome :D, has a distinct CoP flavour to it.
Same thoughts here. I'm hoping here that the main composer is still Nobuo Uematsu, and they merely brought him back in to compose additional pieces/arrange some others. Some pieces are definitely bombastic enough to be from him and his new synthesiser (from the new pieces that is. The second and fourth last ones are definitely NU.)
Otherwise, new composers are always welcome. For more diverse and non-linear games, I would prefer a collaboration amongst composers. FFXI is one; FFXII also. FFXIII-2 sounds promising as well, with Naoshi Mizuta moving onto that project along with Mitsuto Suzuki and Masashi Hamauzu.
Regardless of who created the additional tracks or did arrangements, I love them so far. Makes a wonderful addition to the FFXIV current soundtracks, which is of equal merit, though not the best implemented in-game. They suffered due to little concept given behind it, and Nobuo Uematsu has to be commended from making so many tracks from just a few pictures for the initial launch. Not to mention he composed all the area themes which will end up being repetitive no matter what you do to them.
I wonder how the new tracks will fit in; they'll certainly be implemented better if the concept ideas were given to the composers. From the sounds of it, they'll suit a much tighter range of events each and more focused on a different aspect rather than the current soundtracks "all rounder" kind of feel. Glad to see they kept the rock end music for the lower-levelled stuff, while the higher-levelled stuff gets the more classic styled music.

Track by track analysis -
0-0:20 - Chocobo theme (for personal use? The rental chocobo piece is near the end.)
0:20-0:30 - Lots of bass drums. o.o Wonder what it'll be used for. Running away? Tribal dancing?
0:30-0:41 - Sad theme....death?
0:42-0:53 - Sounds like a hurry theme mashed with an action one.
0:53-1:03 - Revelations? Discovery of something important. o.o
1:04-1:18 - Something evil approaches....
1:19-1:35 - Probably some Grand Company event theme
1:35-1:50 - Grand Company event theme #2
1:50-2:11 - U'Ghamaro Mines
2:11-2:27 - Zahar'ak
2:27-2:47 - Ifrit fight battle, theme for all primal fights. Named "Primal Judgement".
2:47-2:57 - Some kind of ending to a quest?
2:57-3:07 - Ending music #2
3:08-3:21 - Chocobo theme (rentals)
3:21-3:25 - Fanfare #2
Did Natalan's battle theme get taken, or did it get shifted to a later patch? Hmm....I wonder.
Hihi, Nuru. :D
Thx for the Link whoop.finally able to Listen to the New Tracks over my phone XD
Hmmm...I am. Currently, the only one I find similar is the Zahar'ak one; everything else that's new seems to be that; newly composed. Which ones do you think are remixed/rearranged? So far, only two arrangements I can hear of; Zahar'ak and chocobo.
And I'm glad they're trying to make it fit the world as well. It's definitely an improvement from what they did to poor Uematsu-san and a few pictures. ;_;
U'Ghamaro Mines is a slower + Remixed version of the music that plays in the opening movie when they fight the morbol.
Hehe. I'm a sneaky bastard of normally just lurks and makes an essay of posts at a time, so don't be so surprised. I'm not very famous here. :D
You're welcome, Nuru and Black rose~
Hmm...I can see just the faintest of similarities. o.o I really would have never noticed if you didn't point it out.
Hater No.1 reporting for duty, sirs!
It's not that I hate it as much as stylistically I'm reminded of at least 3 other composers, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, although they feel all over the place.
Love Zaharak's new theme. Not too keen on the personal chocobo theme just yet.
Oh my god, great way to start the day!
I need a new pair of ears.
By the way, at least a few of these songs have been composed by Nobuo (like Primal Judgement), but most seem completely new indeed
GOSH! I DO LOVE THESE TRACKS!!!
It's far better than Nobuo's.....
Finally some decent music :O
i wish i could set this to auto loop.
I like these new tracks.
I hope one of them replaces the mistbeard cove music in thanalan, so tired of it ><
Hard to make any real judgement without hearing the full tracks but it's sounding good.
More like one of them replaces mistbeard cove, since that track fits thanalan far better than it does the cove. Personal preference really. It's also unlikely to be replaced by any of the new trAcks because none of the new ones sound like a area theme; they're all quite situational.
Funny how you say that. Most of the initial melodies were composed by Uematsu san. They've just been arranges to fit the context of the source, except for two which are direct compositions from Uematsu-san.
Zahark music is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBWrC8hwy40 arranged.
Cobols music seems http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBWrC8hwy40.
Seems that the most except first chocobo are arrangements to fit "well" in the game.
If someone has to take over the music composing must be Naoshi Mizuta.
I love these samples!! 8) <3
So I've listened to the sampler a few times(and not having the morning groggy) and feel like I should redact my earlier statement. I'd still like to listen to the full versions naturally(as do we all), but I think they all sound pretty decent, even though a lot of them sound event-related.
If Zahar'ak and O'ghomoro are in there, then I'm pretty sure Shopshae and Natalan are as well, which means some of those tracks are going to be their battle themes. I think the Company chocobo theme is nice, but it's definitely fitting with the theme of Company Warfare. Doesn't feel all that "personal" to me. Highlights for me would be O'ghomoro(no I'm not using that heretic spelling) and Zahar'ak, and I love how it's essentially a play on another battle theme.
thats some pretty cool / epic stuff
Yeah...it seemed Mizuta was trying to keep stuff in the "Uematsu-style" for XI, whereas this composer seems to realize that the music in this game isn't Uematsu's greatest work (even though it is a damn sight better than most video game music today) and is composing in a style he/she thinks is appropriate to the game rather than the previous music.
I find it interesting that there's an outcry against the different art style of the Ifrit weapons, but no one seems to mind the change in musical style.
LOVE IT!!!
this music LITERALLY brought a tear to my eye. like.. im not even kidding.
The music is neither ugly nor does it have strangely shaped bulky horns.Quote:

the weapons aren't ugly either
hm they should add some of the "The Black Mages" tunes into the game,
or have them remake some of the FFXIV ones just for the badass of it.
Hey nice find, thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I think a lot of them sound great but a few we only get too small a section! Leaves me wanting more ;)
The sampler was uploaded in a youtube video earlier than the blog was updated. I find that either weird or youtube is broken :P
The video was uploaded on the 2nd.
I'm confused...some people are telling me the music is by Uematsu but mixed by someone else, or that the tracks are from someone else. WHICH IS IT!?
Some of them are by someone else.
Some of them are Uematsu's work.
Some of them are arrangements of Uematsu's work by someone else.
