lol.. i got it.
He's talking about the Lodestone, not FFXIV. So many off topic replies. lol.

Beside the before mentioned being bugged to come on a class you don't want, the only other reason I can think of is to hide your craft levels. Other LS members asking you to craft tons of stuff for them and you rather not spend your time breaking 200 crystals or whatever else.
However if this is the case you should probably talk to your LS leadership, and if they are not willing to handle it, or are involved themselves it may be time to move on.
Personally I know leads that use Lodestone profile to check out people that are applying to join. I've used it to quietly check out people in the past who've said "whenever x drops can I have it I'm grinding on it now." Honestly I'm not strongly opposed to it so if they add it I'm still fine, however I enjoy the ease of being able to check out people whom I'm curious about, and check the honesty of people who ask for valuable drops or tell me their new and ask for gear/gil.
Oh, I only read the OP and i missed where they said profile. At a quick glance it just looks like an /anon in game request. If it was in game /anon then I find that pointless since you can just look at the character and be able to tell what they are.
I really don't see the issue about people being able to see your profile unless you hang out with douche bag people who make fun of your for dumb stuff like not having something leveled. If that is the case you need new friends or a LS. If it an issue on people wanting you to play a certain class for an event and you wanting to hide it from them that you have it leveled then shame on you. If you join a LS for event related reasons and you don't want to come on a class they need to make the event go smoothly then you don't need to be in a LS like that.
In the end you have control over yourself. No need to hide yourself from people. Be proud of who you are!
It doesn't matter if you're talking about the in-game information, or your lodestone profile. There's zero reason to hide either.
If i remember correctly there was also a bit of a kerfuffle over on the jp side about the time stamps on the history badge thingys.
I don't particularly understand the situation Mr Cactus is in or perceives him self to be in. But Im not going to say anything to the contrary. Ya know perhaps it would be nice if we had a little more control over who got to see what on our profiles.
All of you ppl chewing out the op go ..... yourself but for real if someone wants to hide their info all good for them i don't care and it should not effect you either.
Eh.
If people want to hide their profile information so bad, oh well. However should they implement such a feature, I don't want to see any Q_Q threads popping up because players in game think you are shady and don't trust you when you hide your lodestone profile.
Hiding does not solve whatever issue OP is having in his LS. It just avoids it and turns it into something more of suspicion.
I didn't accuse him of anything. No need to get your panties in a bunch.
I pointed out, as people before me already pointed out in this thread, that hiding your profile will lead to people questioning you. I don't care what the OP did or didn't do. Just saying hiding his profile isn't a solution to his problem.
Also, OP said himself that he wants to hide his profile due to some manner of LS drama.
You pointed nothing out though. You "assume" people will. Then you projected that assumption as fact upon the OP.
You said "Hiding does not solve whatever issue OP is having in his LS." he never said he was having problems. He said he wanted to prevent any. Not to mention your astounding logic, to claim its satisfactory for you to make a false assumtion, just because previous posters did. Wow, thats some thought process there.
Actually, my pointing out other posters saying it will lead to suspicion was to support the notion that, well, people will find it suspicious. There are people quite obviously expressing their suspicions in this very thread.
Honestly, I hope not. It would be nice to be able to hide your character details from people who ask to see them and not cause unwanted suspicion and unfair treatment. I don't assume it will lead to this, however I do expect it will.
Like I said in my post a page back that you blew so ever out of proportion, if people want it so badly then fine. I just want to point out the risks associated with it. OP wants to prevent drama. Explicitly hiding stuff about yourself is known to lead to drama.
As for your condescending remarks, they really are quite childish.
RMT will start hiding their information as well.
this is probably one of the big reasons i can think of, but also maybe he likes logging out during events and logging into his dollar account and doing other stuff like craft or craft bot. or lol have another life ...white collar with a nite life of drag queening. think that only other reason i can think of that has to do with your own linkshell. in other games u just log out, this game you can't or maybe he can't hide that he is like 3people in same linkshell with this. or maybe it makes people wonder if he buys gils since he has no crafts 50 but bought a 20mils item. i dunno's lol
while i think peoples business is there own ...i don't think in a game it really counts as much, i can't think of any good concrete reason to hide it, just shaddy ones. don't think anyone using them to go linching people. for most part being able to hide in mmo's creates more reason for people up to no good to try and get away with them. it's like being able to freely change your name and you go ninja every piece of gear from a hardworking linkshell and then just disappear.
You continue to show your prejudgmental attitude in your assumptions of my meaning. Prejudging me as condecending based on what? Because I disagree with your view?
I would prefere to be falsly assumed condescending than to prove myseld prejudious anytime my friend.
i can see wy ppl want to hide there rank from there ls , because THEY ALWAY'S HAVE TO HEAL , to a point that they cant even do dmg even if they want *runs of crying*
ps : just joking :D
None of which requires you to be able to see someone's lodestone profile at all. Ever tried talking to a person? That tends to work!
You may not realize it but MMORPGs with similar features in-game have existed long before online profiles like the one The Lodestone has and you know... people got along without them.
Hell, in plenty of MMOs you can't even see anyone's information at all aside from maybe their gear.
If the person doesn't want you to see anything beyond that you should be able to use your interpersonal skills to get any other information you need as this is a social game... Let's not forget that.
Oh, and if you can't. Maybe they aren't the right person for your linkshell, raid, etc. They may have a perfect lodestone profile but if you can't talk with em at all then would you really want them anyway? Chances are you wouldn't! Hurray for taking two seconds out of your day to talk to someone!
and the little lalafell, we'll call it 'leve-linking army'... (look one up, history is 'suspect' to say the least)
how 'active' a person actually is... unless you ranked up every class to 50 already, have all crystals, NM's quests done, active players have updates to their lodestone history at least 1-2 times a week.
I don't think lodestone histories are a big deal BUT I can see how it could cause you to get into drama etc.
Some linkshells for instance, don't allow their members to do NM's/raids with others. Well Other's includes non-linkshell friends. What if your first Bartraal kill was with friends and not this Linkshell? Even if you only went with them when your ls wasn't doing anything, some still get their panties in a twist...you get booted, drama insues etc.
...by the way, I'm in NO WAY saying I agree with Linkshells that do this, nor with people who sign up for one with these rules getting upset if they get busted...just something I know has happened to people in my social shell with their 'Event' shells. I was just using it as an example.
Prejudice? riiight....
Anyway, no need for me to further derail the topic over personal matters. You still haven't addressed my last point pertaining to the OP's request. Then again, looking back at it there really isn't anything to address is there. Quite simple and clear.
