The positive Astrologian thread!

I love how this is more about how pretty the job is over praising it's performance in content.

I did find the one thing astro is better at then the other healers though. It's fantastic in pvp!

The jobs weak heals are offset by how easy the job can cast heals in pvp because aspected benific can't be interrupted and lightspeed.

Its not really surprising, people are getting bored of mages and squares gear designers have not helped with that with their constant re-skin model designs, since you went through the trouble of PvP rank to get your bushy tail robe, like I did with my swangrace you agree right?

(All those matches and now that they removed the rank requirement it seems like a waste.)

I'm salty about that pvp rank thing.... I worked so hard for that bushy tail and iv had it as my glamour for damn near 9 months (40 one then upgraded to 45 one because it dyed white better shortly after its release) and now any scrub that just afks in pvp can have it.


But at least I still have my 200 wins ADS mount...

Feels like a giant middle finger to the pvp community

Retrogradation is a really fun PvP skill.

Another positive about AST is it has one of the best looking ESO gear sets, and by far, the best healing LB3 in the game.

Possible for anyone to show a picture of that set?
I cannot find it as since i am leveling astro before progressing story, i have no idea where the vendor would be.

The gear set is good looking only on female. On male it's.... meh.

It makes me learn other classes' advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it makes me a better player all round.

Well ive gotten ast to 58 almost 60 and i really love the job. First i wanna say the most difficult part of ast is the buffs, that random is what makes it fun and exciting. You draw balance save it then either use the next card to augment its effects or use the buff you just got. During the fightyou have to think how am i going to use this buff and on who. Being able to put a 15% damage down on a tank is huge for a good tank like a 15% damage buff on a dps is huge. Although the ability recast is confusing i dont know how to use that or who would benefit the most. Im undecided on nocturnal sect but then i havent had a chance to use it in a raid setting.

To be fair, even if the job was OP, its prettiness would still be my number one compliment about Astrologian.

This is needs to be in this thread: Astrologian LB3 - Astral Stasis

It makes you a better healer. I mean, if you clear something using AST and then try again with WHM or SCH it's a walk in the park.

been doing old ex primals for fun and found out Synastry lets you cheat the briny debuff for healing the tank on Leviathan! >.> I can solo heal a long time when the other healer falls off

I'm saddened that Malefic II is a direct upgrade from Malefic. I love my little shooting stars from Malefic, despite loving how amazing Malefic II looks. *pout* Stella is also fantastic too--the red laser of doom is nice :3 And my goodness, Gravity is one of my favouritest spells in the game. It looks amazing, sounds amazing...

I played as a tank getting healed by an AST for the first time the other day. Since I had my camera up close and personal, I finally noticed the little stars dancing around me as I was healed with Benefics. Cute.

I've started to get pretty consistent about getting Disable out for relevant attacks. It still sucks to lose it to an auto attack, but taking a bite out of AoE damage is always satisfying. I'm getting more use from Diurnal Collective Unconscious, it's potency is just fantastic. Finding the right time and place to set up shop for it, a bit of a challenge though.

As a previous main WHM, I can say firmly that AST is my new main, without question. It's a gorgeous class, and there are lots of little things that can be done with AST that you just can't do with other jobs. The emergency healing potential with three instacast spells (if your benefic II gets a combo) can take a tank from next to nothing to full and shielded or regened with next to no delay.
The only thing I could ask for that would make our job easily acceptable to those who are unwilling to see it as anything outside of whm or sch jr. would be sect dancing. Granted, we don't NEED it, we're amazing as it is, but that's not the point, no one sees ast as anything other than a poor replacement instead of looking at it as something new. Don't forget that people hated on scholar as just a glorified dps with some healing abilities. It took a while for people to learn the ins and outs of the job and they came to love it. AST time will come, buffs or no, we're already relevent, hang in there my fellow AST's!

Finally glad to see people talk about the job without bashing it. The job is awesome and love that some people realize it.

Coming to the forums would make you think every job was doomed to fail .

I certainly enjoy AST. The card system provides a fun addition to healing and there are often times when I drop a Balance on a DPS I feel kind of like a commander giving the order to unleash hell.

I know that's doesn't really fit into the whole Fortune Teller vibe, but it still feels cool.

Overall, not looking at numbers or class balance, I feel like AST is great fun.

I was a bard and a whm in ffxi so I thought I'd continue that in ffxiv, but I got really bored of whm. I didn't like being a 'healbot'. So I was really excited when AST came along, and it didn't dissapoint.

AST is just fun. I enjoy busy gameplay and I love how busy it gets (probably why I got bored of whm). It's also one or the most aesthetically pleasing classes, I think malefic 2 is the best looking spell in the game. The card system is alot of fun, even if the whole thing feels completely useless.

It needs to be buffed big time, but that doesn't change the fact that it is by far the funnest healing class. I actually have fun healing now never thought I'd see the day.

AST was the sole reason I started playing this game. Who cares about all the whining and complaining? I'm enjoying the class and I will keep doing so for a long time. Now to just wait another week to get back from vacation so I can start throwing those stars around at people again! I'm absolutely in love with this class. One of my favourite healer concepts ever. Oh, and I'm totally gonna farm the Starcaller title.

I'm finding Astrologian such a brilliant emergency healer in 4 man dungeons, when all 4 players are brought to their knees, synastry, essential dignity and Benefic 2 and everyone is back up to full health And that's without factoring in HoT or any group heal spells.

I'm in love.

I will say that I do really like the AST job.
I LOVE the animations and the idea of the Job.
The skill curve is pretty large as well.

It just turns out that I'm terrible at it, so I'll stick with SCH and hope my AST partners are better at the class than I was.
I dont think its nearly as bad as is implied in the 15 other AST threads.
Its just pretty hard to play right.

At the risk of derailing the intended positive vibe of this thread, AST doesn't boast a terribly high skill floor and offers little bonus in exchange for reaching for the ceiling. Anyone who can play a level 50 WHM can perform the essential healing functions of AST at level 60, and the card system isn't complicated once you've memorized everything.

AST just appears on paper as if it has much more complexity than it functionally does. There's no magic secret to playing AST that brings it up to the level that WHM and SCH are on. Hence all the positive constructive criticism ;)

I can understand that people will ignore the nuances of astrologian and just think that throwing out whatever card that you pull is simple enough trying to maximize your buffs with whom you are using it with is a mini game within the mini game of playing the astrologian which is where its complexity lies.

I absolutely love Astrologian and I every time I see some negative thread is not about constructive criticism, but about people bitching and showing how they failed to understand the core concept behind the job. They say the cards are bad and then they give examples of how they're using it and they're simply wasting potential for all of their cards. They ask for buffs, but if you need 100 more HP to come out of a Benefic it means your tank will die anyway because you don't know how to heal. Sadly, SE can't buff player skill; but then again, that only mean the baddies are gonna drop the job and let the good Astrologians shine ;D

What you describe is neither complex nor difficult. These "nuances" are a kind of pretentious, false difficulty that attempts to obfuscate how minimally impactful most card actions are in practice. One look at your party list and a little attention paid to how everyone appears to be doing gives you most of what you need to know.

If you had full access to your cards, there would be room for more strategy and complexity, but with RNG governing your card selection, it's not rocket science to choose your best options.

Simple things like the running and sprinting animations for AST really make me love the class. The special effects are really well done and I feel like they really did a good job catching the theme of the job. All of the abilities and spells have a "spatial magic" type of feel to them.

I'm not going to refrain from commenting on gameplay when it's relevant to something a poster in this same thread brought up. Whether or not you find such discussion to be "on topic" in this thread isn't my concern.
