No man, nothing is going to happen. The moon is still 350000 Km away. And thats just too damn far to do anything.

Very sorry to hear about that disaster. Hope everyone there is able to get past it as quickly as possible.
And to that guy with the tinfoil hat... Earthquakes are a result of tectonic plate activity, not lunar, solar or cosmic influences. Yes they can be deadly, and the threat of them and other such disasters should be taken very seriously, but making things up doesn't help anyone, and in fact, it can actual cause a lot of harm... Say for a moment, everyone were to believe you about the close approach of the moon on it's elliptical orbit meaning a heightened level of danger from quakes and etc. Well, continuing that line of logic, at it's most distant range, we'd be safest... Which would be an excuse used by people to neglect preparations.. "Oh look, moons far off today, let's give emergency rescue and response teams the week off." So as you can see, arguing that line of thinking is pretty much detrimental aside from being ignorant.
http://www.skepdic.com/fullmoon.htmlQuote:
Misconceptions about such things as the moon's effect on tides have contributed to lunar mythology. Many people seem to think that since the moon affects the ocean's tides, it must be so powerful that it affects the human body as well. The lunar force is actually a very weak tidal force. A mother holding her child "will exert 12 million times as much tidal force on her child as the moon" (Kelly et al., 1996: 25). Astronomer George O. Abell claims that a mosquito would exert more gravitational pull on your arm than the moon would (Abell 1979). Despite these physical facts, there is still widespread belief that the moon can cause earthquakes.* It doesn't; nor does the sun, which exerts much less tidal force on the earth than the moon.
I mean really now, a "supermoon"? 2012 nonsense?... Can't we approach anything rationally these days? I'm sure the last thing anyone affected by that earthquake wants to hear about is that 2012 bit. There's been countless doomsday claims to come and go, and they'll be countless more from 2013 onward. And frankly, 2012 is far from the most convincing one, it's just the next one that hasn't come and gone. Again, spreading myths like that is still dangerous though... Watch, come 2012, a bunch of people are going to go looting, drinking poison kool-aid, panicking, and etc., and then nothing will happen... How exactly is that better safe than sorry?
If you want to actually contribute, donate to whatever group is spearheading the relief efforts in the affected areas in the coming days. Earthquakes can do monumental amounts of structural damage, and put a lot of people in a bad place simultaneously, which further exhausts finite resources. Natural disasters inflict damage that is often a huge headache to deal with at best, and utterly devastating at worst. More donations are never wasted on effected areas.
And again, I hope for the best for everyone who has been effected by that quake.
Titan is disappointed by FFXIV
listen to me shut up about the tinfoil hat shit i'm just saying better be save then sorry -.- if you don't like my point of view then don't read or quote me just think that my post is not there. Btw "supermoon" is happening 3/19/2011 did everyone forgot what happen in 2005 when there was a small "supermoon" i can care less if something happen or not just be ready if something does happen. i don't believe in 2012 but if it does happen are we ready for it? i understand how it can be nonsense for many ppl but for others they put there life to study on it. i can really care less if 2012 is the end.
So please enough with it i can care less i don't believe in it but better be save then sorry.....
this is not the time or the place for your views, you can start that topic elsewhere. be respectful no one is asking about your opinions on earthquakes or what not. You started it as a off topic conversation in "this" thread. You want to talk about it fine no problem do it in a appropriate thread.
Stay safe everyone!
Wow. I wake up and the Cataclysm hit Japan? That sucks. :(
I hope everyone at Square-Enix is alright.
Those that were effected by the earthquake and tsunami and those that may yet to have experienced it (hopefully won't - Hawaii and the majority of the west coast) are in my thoughts. Hang in there!!
I just went looking through the Japanese forums and Yoshi-P posted this (rough translation from Google)
"We are its Okay! Thanks!
However, please acknowledge thinking that the delay goes out to urgent correspondence a little about the respect."
Thank God!
Just watched the news, hoping everyone's safe and well. 8.8 quake and a 7.9 after shock, really hoping nothing major follows up. things that keep my attention is the nuclear plant, the oil refineries, potential after after shock's. As for the people, job well done japan you guys were not caught with you pants down. You guys were prepared, and little surprised.
heh. Sadly, the internet outdid me: http://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/g1rj4/not_cool/
Its very sad and i am thinking of all of them :(
Thankfully so far the Japanese friends I've been able to get in contact with are fine, including an ex-pat living in the north. Still, this is horrible news and I hope to be able to volunteer for the recovery effort.
please take care all of u that were affected!! our hearts and prayers are with u.
such tragic things unfortunately happen and luckily most of japan is prepared for such things..
stay safe please!!
God... been watching this since Midnight PST... My Heart goes out to everyone in Japan, everyone in Hawaii, and everywhere else that the Tsunami hits.
Video Footage from Japan is insane! and Scary! God... I dunno what I would do if I was in that situation....
My heartfelt condolences go out to all our Japanese players in Japan and those who are worried about their families still in Japan. I'm watching the devastation on TV right now and I can only imagine what the people of Japan are going through right now.
Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters in Japan
Most of the people I know in Japan are all right. I don't know about all tho...; ;
That's scary. Hope the losses were minimum , Our Thoughts are with you .
My thoughts are with you Japan!
I'm from Chile and we had a big earthquake and tsunamis last year. Reconstruction takes a very long time, but I'm certain that things will get better :)
カナダから:私たちはすべての安全と平和日本の友人のすべてのを願っている。
さ安全である
From Canada: We hope all of our Japanese friends are safe and secure.
Be safe.
Thankfully the damage only seems to be mainly to infastructure, I've not heard of many reported deaths a massive tragidy none the less. Be well dev team, and I'm sure we all understand if you don't have time to post here...
It was actually 8.9. And yes it is totally sad and tragic. I don't wish that on any land. What is concerning me the most is the whole Atomic Power that they use there. For what I understand it can take up to a 7 earthquake. But this one was way above it. It was almost as high as the one that stroke Thailand and India in 2004. And this one was right at the coast of Japan...
My thoughts are with you dear Nipon friends!
Wow... just wow... My thoughts and prayers go out to everybody effected by this tragedy.
I was watching the animu 'Tokyo Magnitude 8.0' a couple weeks back.
Best wishes to the people who are going to be suffering due to this disaster. Stay strong and do your best to keep your heads.
My thoughts go out to all those affected by the quake. I hope all are well.
Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the earthquake and tsunamis.
All my best wishes go to Japan. I had the TV set on as background noise when this was first announced last night, and watching the tsunami inparticular was horrifying, especially when you KNEW there were live people somewhere (such as driving in the cars) that were trying to get away, and the water was coming up to them so fast. And it was absolutely heartbreaking when they were showing video of people trapped on the top floor of their houses, trying to wave for help.
This morning I've already heard that hundreds of bodies have washed ashore... I hope plenty of help gets sent to Japan as soon as possible. I live in California so we know earthquakes pretty well, and hearing "8.8" (now upgraded even higher than that) was just shocking. That's just incredibly huge. Even for a place like Japan, where they're very prepared for earthquakes (probably far more than we even are), I'm not sure it's possible to protect yourself from something that big.
Let's hope as many people got to safety as possible, especially people in those small villages that have been completely washed away.
Best wishes to everyone out there.
A magnitude 8.8 is one of the worst possible earthquakes Japan could experience, the highest being around 9.0. This isn't some ridiculous sign that the world is ending or that humanity is paying for their sins. It is the earth relieving huge amounts of accumulated stress along plate boundaries.
Most of all, though, this is a tragedy for Japan. We need to do what we can to lend our help and support. I'm just thankful that Japan at least has some infrastructure to withstand such a massive quake because they have known what the subduction boundary would be capable of. I hope everyone is doing well, they have my best.
My thoughts are with you and your country today Japan. A tragedy to be sure.
