[Discussion] Ala Mhigo and it's hypocrisy...

It's really hard to believe that Ala Mhigo was a technological powerhouse of Eorzea. It' really does kinda highlight how far they've fallen when I always thought they were closer to warring tribes of barbarians (similar to Xaela)than a civilized nation.

Whoops, someone said it before me. Yeah they are hald naked tribesmen with war paint. I can count mabye 3 Ala Mhigans who aren't like that. Raubahn, Ilberd and the Monk quest giver scientist. And they tend to fight with their fists. Don't look like people with advanced technology.

If I were a leader in the Eorzean Alliance, saaay Merlwyb I would probably pack a ship with weapons, armor and supplies and another with the refugees. After that, send them all to Ala Mhigo. If they all die less agressive hobos who think they are better than you despite literally living in holes dug into the ground. If they suceed one more city state to the Alliance. Either way, they'll shut up about reclaiming AM.

OF EORZEA, That does mean that they were even powerfull than Garlemand, yes the lor yes they challenege Garlemand on might, but it was after their technologial warfare advance?
Gaius, notice that a total war with them will be diifcult, just beacuse of that he change the tactics with espionage.

I want to know who was trying to invade Ala Mhigo prior to Garleans? I'm pretty sure these nation(s) ended up being conquered and assimilated into Garlean military.

I want to know what Ala Mhigo's technology was like since the Garleans are using them as their engineers. It took the Eorzean Alliance 80yrs ago to push back Ala Mhigo, so just imagine them if Garlemald chose direct combat with them?

Based on little tidbits we know that Eorzean magic can greatly harm their magitek reapers/ machines (that's why Nero invanted the Gold-plating in CM), plus monks, whatever technology they had at the time and the fact that they have experience in invading/defending against invasion.

I assume it was just various cultures on Ilsebard who invaded from time to time. That's what the official site's wording implied.

That sounds about right. 80 years ago was before the Garlean Empire was formed, so it was likely just minor nations.

The Empire has the same plan as the Scions, to stop the summoning of Primals, or Eikons as they call them. Just the Empires method is more proactive rather than reactive. To be fair most of the time the primals where summoned after the beast tribes felt they were backed into a corner by the 3 nations. As the three nations havn't tried to reconcile or accept the beast tribes and preferred to wage war on them. Whereas the beast tribe quests show there is a chance of peace if both sides wanted it.

Where the Scions clear up the mess by destroying the Primal after the fact, the Empire are more towards genocide to prevent summons. Both, in my opinion are wrong and that acceptance of a common ground should be reached for peace so the Beast tribes don't feel the need to resort to primals to defend themselves.

I was under the impression that really only applied to the Limsa Beast tribes. Gridania would likely love nothing more than peaceful relations with the Ixal ((The elementals don't seem to want active destruction of a disliked person unless they are a threat re: the Ala Mhigans in the finding Lahabrea questline.)) Don't have a good argument for Ul'dah wanting peace with the Amalj'aa, but even if they HAD approached peacefully and nicely, I suspect the Ifrit Amalj'aa would be all "Get Tempered".

A lot of the Beast Tribe Quests show it more as Infighting within the Beast Tribes, with sects with different Goals, or means to reach the goal if the goals are still the same.

Limsa its mostly territorial disputes with the Kobolds; they were peaceful trading partners at one point, but them Limsa decided to expand and the peace was lost. The Sahagan have always raided the coasts, but now they fight for breeding grounds (the Sahagan quests suggest that if they were allowed that territory it would be much more peaceful between them. But Limsa wants everything, so...) Also something to note: neither the Kobolds nor Sahagan are tempered by their Primals. At least, none of the beastmen encountered during their respective questlines are (Novv praises Leviathan when you first meet him, but he is definitely not tempered, and the Kobolds barely mention Titan at all)

The untempered Sylphs are peaceful and allies to Gridania. The Touched Sylphs just want to be left alone, only coming into conflict with those who trespass on their territory. The Ixal have waged war on the Gridanians because they believe the Shroud is their sacred home, and are very jealous that the Gridanians are living there (on top of being tempered); peace isn't an option with them (While the untempered of the Echatl Nine are peaceful, I feel it is mostly due to the tempered being overly hostile, and their goal to get back to Azys Lla).

The Amalj'aa are a warring, tribal culture that lives primarily on the plains of Paglth'an; they probably started wars with the Ul'dahns and raid their caravans because that's what they do. They can be peaceful (as shown by the Brotherhood of Ash), but because the vast majority are tempered by Ifrit, peace is not an option.

As for the infighting: the Sylphs, Amalj'aa and Ixal fight each other due to tempering. The Sahagan its because Novv realized that the constant raiding is bad for future generations (him raiding the shores directly lead to his clutch being almost completely exterminated) and the Kobolds its more the order is, well, being lazy and wants to be not at the bottom anymore (while still being lazy)

Don't forget the Mamool Ja when talking about Limsa. They found and brought a large group of them back from the New World (the western continent), seemingly against their will. Still wondering if they may try summoning a primal. Some of them seem good enough, and they're allowed in Limsa proper for trade. But some are not so friendly, such as the enemies in The Wanderer'd Palace Hard Mode, and the ones outside of it in Upper La Noscea.

No one knows where the Amalj'aa animosity comes from but it was mentioned in the Hildebrand quest of all places that during a war with the sister city before it was destroyed (forgot the name) amalj'aa warriors were among the ranks of the ul'dahns. So they were actually allies at one stage.
Most likely reason would be they summoned Ifrit to defend against the Garlean threat and in doing so became tempered and made the world their enemy in the process.

We also don't really know a ton about the Qiqirn (besides their love of eggs) or Vanu Vanu (there was never really a reason why Bismark was summoned...he just was). For the Goblins, the Illuminati are basically trying to take over the world but as for the rest of them, it seems like they're just trying to find a home. We know the Gnath are interested in survival, and also very interested in conquest. I do suspect in 3.1 we'll be getting Goblin and Vanu Vanu dailies, so we'll get more info then.

I also thought the Mamool Ja were brought from the New World as mercenaries before the Calamity, and are now wandering because there's no work for them in peace? IDK, I don't feel like they're going to summon a Primal anytime soon.

I just hope that unlike the members of Little Ala Mhigo, the people will recognize my character as a Highlander and mention it during conversations.

The rift between Ul'dah and the Amalj'aa was formed when the Garlean Empire showed up. Basically, the Garleans saw all beastmen as a threat since they worship a primal. Because of this, Ul'dah cast the Amalj'aa out in an effort to save face. This obviously didn't pay off, though, as the Garleans later sent messages via their linkpearls stating that those who didn't side with Garlemald in their genocidal hunt would be treated as beastmen non-the-less. It was the Almlj'aa's abandonment by Ul'dah that led to their talks with the "Paragons", and eventually the summoning of their god, Ifrit.

Mamool Ja's are indeed mercenaries that turned rouge when they where left without a job.

Qiqirins are merchants that travel to any place where they can win clink clinks

Goblins are a bit of merchants/scavengers/treasure hunters/mercenaries that always do their own thing you better judge them by individual not by race they are one of the most diverse race job wise i think.

Keep in mind tho, the midlanders are the reason the calamity happened from a long time ago.the city of mostly elezens betrayed the alliance with apathy for a long time and committing war crimes for a thousand years. Au'ra have bloody history. Lalafells and midlanders turn eachother into zombies or kill 9 year old looking padjals using corrupt form of white magic. Miqo'te's culture is deeply sex based. Rogdalyns beyond 50 years ago are into piracy which probably involves murdering innocent people in boats and love Anonymous.

All 5 races are considered mankind with all the flaws they have. If The highlanders do not deserve a chance of peace, then neither should the other 4 city states.

It's quite ironic that the most violent of the 12 gods (Halone and Rhalgr) are worshipped the the most violent Eorzean City-States.

Interesting to see that each past and current city-state all share some traits of their respective patron Deity

I don't think that's ironic at all, really. That makes sense. Violent people worshiping violent gods seems perfectly logical and in no way ironic. Now, if Ishgard worshiped Menphina, that would be ironic.
