I have an idea what countries those are, given that self same countries also prohibit women from walking around with their faces in the open, but such laws are harder to enforce given you can't tell unless the players actually tell you. It's this internet gaming culture that spawned the term g.i.r.l. after all. Violence, though, is not as hard to discern. It's right there, playing out on your screen, in oft vivid detail. Toss children into that situation a line is crossed.

I feel like the bigger question here is, Why are we defending the option? Are we so naive to believe that there aren't people out there who would come to a game and role play an underaged character in order to sexualize them? The answer is, of course, there are and I believe that might be the main reason. Heck, I'm sure there are some sickos out there who roleplay Lalafell that way. Besides that why would we defend a point they have given an answer and a reason behind it, Its for legal reasons, don't push it, it won't change a thing.

Logically speaking, we have a race of cats, cats tend to live short lives, lets say 15 years, there is no where that states Miq'ote are the same longevity as Hyur, or that the tall eared freaks don't live to be 3-400 years old, or that the Au Ra are not actually a few thousand years old, so, if the cats have the same life span as normal cats, then they are actually around 4-5 years old currently, and the roe? Well, they actually look their age, so lets put them at 200. So we already have a child race, the most sexualised race (before Au Ra) in the game......

You can't roleplay these characters doing sexual things though, can you? Maybe in your head, but that's where it stays. This is a virtual world, where you have complete control over your character. Not the same thing. At all.

This whole idea that this has anything to do with violence against children is laughable. Hell, take a look at the history of JRPGs. I would bet you that the overwhelming majority of JRPG characters are under 18. It pretty much became a standard trope for the main heroes of JRPGs to be kids who need to save the world.

Lunar? Kids. Earthbound? Kids. Breath of Fire? Kids. Secret of Mana? Kids. Illusion of Gaia? Kids. Persona? Kids. etc etc.

It's incredibly common to have children be the heroes that save the world.

For the purpose of the game, all PCs (Playable Characters) are 18+. Honestly tho, I look at my Au Ra and she looks 15 lol. SE just says 18+ so it bypasses all the legal nonsense. The same is done in other games but I hate when they do that because it throws the sequels off a bit. DoA just does it the best by saying Ayame and Kasumi are unknown in age.

I don't think many people here are saying we can't play as kids due to violence. It's mostly the sexual implications because you know someone is going to try to skirt around the rules a lot just to see what they can get away with.

If SE were to add mixed races such as Lala'hyur, Lala'qote these would be a decent alternative to playable children.

Yeah, Mabi is a special case, given the lore (being from another world, has to make a body to enter Mabi, and you can rebirth to a certain age and be thousands of years old), and even then, that's not a good excuse for others to emulate. And, also, I wouldn't use Mabi as an example, given how incompetent NA Nexon is. Or, do I have to point out all the breaking servers, black box characters, duping items... It's no wonder, given the lack of watching their own game, that you see a lot of perverts erping as 10-14 yrs olds. In fact, that's kinda proves SE's point. Why the heck would they want to ruin their game's reputation just after picking it up from near devastation, just for those ppl that rly want to rp as children? Logically speaking, comparing real life beings to that of fantasy, isn't logical. Just saying.

Beside that; if I can find the articles/video, it's been stated Hyur have typical human like life spans, Miqo'te slightly shorter, Roe's and Lala's don't remember, Elezen 150-200-ish years. Au Ra no clue yet.

I wish folks would stop talking about adding children and start talking about adding hybrid races with actual mixed features.

Because I would absolutely play a Lalaqo'te or a Lalahyur, no question about it.

Personally I think it'd be fun to have the option. I know what little I did play of skyrim, i modded it to where my character was basically A child vampire. Think I liked the motif of immortally stuck in a child's body ala the girl from interview with a vampire or Helena from old hellsing

This is a great way for SE to dodge the child sexualization topic in the game as-well. While some people want to play as a child/teenager in game it's far more realistic to expect a mixed race such as the Lalaqo'te, then to request an actual playable child/teenager of an already existing race.

I pointed it out as the only example that defies the "you can't play kids for (legal reason)", most other game developers just don't want to take the risk of their game getting banned because it crosses some culture-legal barrier. Americans are so squeemish about boobs, but Asians are not. Like I don't really like the "content" of GTA, but I'm willing to give it a pass, because a lot of the criminal stuff you do in it, has immediate direct consequences, and the difficulty scales up rapidly. It's also yet another game with no children in it. Because it would likely get the game banned in more countries. It's violence, period, that gets games banned in other countries, and it's the scale of gratuitous violence that gets it banned. Nothing to do with children.

What is more interesting is why games are censored, by the developer just to sell into certain regions. Many violence and drug references are cut to sell into Australia. To sell into Germany many violence and Nazi-references need to be cut. To sell into Arab nations, violence, religious and sexual references have to be removed, etc. Again, nothing to do with children.

Nexon NA's incompetence and Nexon KR/JR's incompetence is of the same scale Square-enix is when it comes to monitoring abuse. They are profit-driven corporations, and corporate policy (such as not having anyone working weekends, or outside of banking hours) is why so much hell breaks loose. You simply can not have 3 people per server watching everything. Nexon NA's forums would regularly have people post porn on the weekends because they knew it wouldn't get removed before monday.

A similar pattern exists on the Square-Enix forums, due to low-visibility of the Community Managers. While we don't get porn-sunday threads like Nexon, we do get a LOT of duplicate topic threads, AND, we get a lot of pitchfork threads.

Iran actually this came about with the game league of legends all female characters were banned except for annie because she is "young enough"

Role play? Sorry I got friends, good friends with lives going on where they are more engaging instead of making out with a virtual character. But if you want to make out with a virtual character go ahead just make sure you don't expect me to want to be anywhere near you. Role play is fine but when you are looking for some action..well..yesh. I know friends who rp. trying to use pedophilia is where you are going wrong with this discussion. Editing clothes to avoid this is where Tera edited the Ellins for NA release. There are plenty of games with kids engaging in violence. The whole thing is fear of it somehow getting restricted in countries. That sounds more plausible than anything. Its not needed to have kids in a game playable. Same as having another race. Lets face it in this games story line your character is essentially a mute like White knight chronicles. Instead of sitting creepily in the background being ignored, people talk to you and they repeat what you supposedly say instead of having a choice or you give a frown/smile. Which is in since Square is forcing your role play on you in the dictated story, unless you go out and role play with other PCS.

seeing how the mods took down the last thread, it doesn't seem to be the way they want to take this game. Lore wise you could have children, and many games and anime have had the fate of a nation/planet/everything thrust upon the shoulders of some poor thirteen-year-old...i personally would rather shy away from that however.

The issue isn't really playing as children, it's that some of the outfits are fairly revealing. They cannot show children in a manner that would offend people. Sure, they could create new versions of the outfits, but that is a lot of work.
