Doesn't anyone pay attention to the actual OP?

OP wants more detail in airship, not more stuff or different size or whatever
I agree.
I love the wood and balloon basic design, but the details and textures are just so lame. Examples from both FFIX and XI show how you can take wooden designs and add all kinds of fancy carvings and inlays. The balloons could easily be given a more interesting texture showing intricate painting and such. The worst part is it clashes with everything else we own that's so detailed, like THM scepters, decorated armor and shields, laces and brooches on robes, etc. Your average adventurer equipment is more intricately crafted than a ship that flies through the air.
If anything the lack of technology in Eorzea should mean more decoration, because each airship is an expensive piece of craftsmanship, while Garlean airships are likely mass-produced.
I for one am happy about the modest design. It fits more with the "auto transport" they're implementing with their arrival. How awkward would it be to see a gigantic ship fly away JUST because you came on board? This seems more personal, and less time-wasting (ala FFXI waiting 10-15 mins for the ship if you were unlucky to miss the flight, waiting a few minutes for people to board, departure CS, 3-5 minutes for the trip, arrival CS *phew*). Plus, remember just BARELY missing the ship in FFXI? I remember quite a few times being steps away from it :P
I'm also going to throw my hat in for the more austere design of XIV's being great.
The Airships in FFXI (and pretty much all other FF's) were over-designed and overwrought. More decoration does not make a boat look better, it just makes it look cluttered and visually unappealing.
give me boats that look like boats, not like your grandmother's end-table
look at a finely crafted silver tea service in the real world...now look at a nuclear powered Super Carrier...one is decorated beautiffully, one is big, gray and ugly as sin and has no outward decoration.
now which one of these can cost as low as $100 and which one costs over $1,000,000,000
I for one like the sleeker and more aerodynamic style of the new airships.
Besides, the detail is in the metal borders like everything else in this game. Most wood in this game lacks ornate designs and seems to serve as a complementary contrast to the more complex designs on the metal parts.
