Yeah, in Final Fantasy we ride chocobos. That's not to say that we can't have a large variety of chocobos, however.

No pets, instead, Personal Chocobo Ranch and Chocobo Mounts with chocobo customization through gear acquisition or manufacturing.
As a matter of fact, if there was a Chocobo Farm to rise your chocobos and the possibility of capturing wild chocobos, or looking for abandoned chocobo eggs in dungeons, FFXIV would be the BEST game ever. I mean, if you have nothing to do, go cook rations for your chocobo, or to play with it...
Another thing I miss in Final Fantasy XIV, that was present in earlier FF titles are the Chocobo Races... :( Thats a lot, but those are things that make the game so much better that it can even make a game the best game of all times. lol

I want Chocobos! And I would want to outfit my Chocobo in Chocobo Dragoon Armor. :) I hope they add a good breeding/raising system unlike XI which I couldn't stand to deal with. It would be nice if I could have color sliders for my Chocobo during customization. Maybe add in some "evil" chocobo horns to go along with the "evil armor". Though I am against using anything other than a chocobo for mounts wouldn't it be awesome to see my lalafell riding ontop of a Malboro?

What i and most of the people who don't want is (from what i read from the posts here),we do not want everyone riding the same looking chocobos at the end, thus we had ideas like more types of mounts (Can we ride on moongle? They can fly right :D), more choices for customization if there is only chocobos, etc.
Anyway, I can accept chocobo only, but i hope we can have a huge customization possibilities.

Personal pets? No.
Beastmaster class? Yes, with temporary pets, just like FFXI.
A monster battling arena, similar to the one in FFXI(does anyone remember that?) would be a fun time killer. Who doesn't love Pokemon?
As for personal mounts, I could care less. A chocobo would be useful every now and then, but I don't want to twiddle my hands and have my Chocobo magically poof under me. Kweh McWark can chill in the Uldah stables until I'm ready to ride him, as far as I care. -

Chocobos, Beastmaster and Shepherd for me.
There are already armored Chocobos that the Ishgardians ride. In several of the R30 class quest cutscenes in Owl's Nest they show them for the first time. Use those for players to equip their birds with along with more choices along the way. Also bring back the different colored Chocobos and have racing and breeding.
They're the only mounts that will make me a happy camper.

My opinion is very much biased to the chocobo only mounts, this is final fantasy after all and chocos are made of several variations of win. Chocobo customization would be amazing, would very much like to see this.

Final Fantasy has never had living ground mounts outside of Chocobos, and the only living airborne mounts have been dragons, outside of living mounts, it's always been vehicles. The hover craft, airship, boat, canoe, and so forth.
Riding my flaming horse back home so I can feed my lizard just isn't Final Fantasy. -

as pretty much everyone is saying, chocobo's only, the reason is that not adding other mounts is that it takes away from the FF world, Only other mounts I can see possibly are something like maybe a motorbike like Cloud had or like someone said, that hovercraft thing from FF4.
but I wouldn't mind some sort of raising-system like was in FFXI, but something that gives more of a benefit, please? I realize it was made this way so that if you didn't do it you werent penalized, but in FFXI I didn't feel motivated to do it at all. Like how about something more along the lines of what was in FF7 where it grants you something useful but it takes a good deal of effort.
And as far as pets go only for Beastmaster and I really don't want to see pets for Summoner this time around, just have the summons come out to do their classic attack, but I know some people want them to have their pets and some don't. It was just implemented too horribly in FFXI and I always loved the way it was in some of the other FF games.
But they could add wow-esque vanity pets that of FF style. A baby chocobo that follows you around or something? -
