Are you saying the absurd amount of uninteresting fetch quests magically disappear after level 54?

So you're saying that we should only explore a region once and then never look back, because you've already been there after all?
By now you really should know, FF XIV doesn't work that way.
Honestly, having to find aethercurrents and appropriate quests to unlock even more to be able to fly really adds to the sense of exploration. Even more so, when you finally ARE able to fly, you enjoy it even more. It feels like you actually achieved something. (you know, more than just "Yay, I got a new weapon hat got 2 statpoints more, yay!") Yes, even when you're searching for moogles. Those god damn cute fluffy little..
If you read my post, you'd realize that my post is based on first impressions. I'm going to finish the damn thing and stay with this game probably forever, but some of my friends quit already because of these dumb go here, go there, go back here, go back there, go there again, go here again, get 48k exp.
Because it comes across as strange to make a thread that basically says "this game should be different because *I* hate it!!"... nevermind the vast majority who are having a great time.
Yes, you are entitled to share your opinion, but people aren't going to take your opinion seriously when you barely played the game.
You got a bad first impression. That's a shame... but that's pretty much all that can be said. The majority seem to have had a great first impression.
The only thing I wish SE would do is make it so that they don't need to drive in massive exposition dumps every few quests. That or at least give a fair warning when they are going to happen. The last thing someone wants is to complete a quest before heading out the door and suddenly get hit with 10+ minutes of spoken cutscene dialog.
Completely disagree. How about making it rewarding to go back to the map such as Fates giving decent exp, gathering, killing mobs for materials, and oh right, quests that gets unlocked later. All these are in the game already. The main problem I'm having is the run to point A and point B quests on that map which would've been a lot less tedious if flying was allowed from the very beginning. Make any sense yet?
Fluff isn't always good, it can be very detrimental to a story. But a story written without details isn't good.
It's a balance and i agree there is perhaps too much filler. However, with these filler quests we learn more about the lore of areas and details of characters that may not be present in the scene.
There's more to any story than what's directly shown to you. A good story makes you think about certain things and character interactions, an action movie/game will get to the action ASAP.
But ultimately it may be what you expected making the story's beginning lacking for you. Expected a strong first impression in the sense we'd kick ass immediately, but we got a strong impression that's we're down and trying to get up (midgardsormr did temporarily lock our blessing from hydaelyn and we got marked as traitors and are being hunted by monetarists).
I don't know what you're talking about, I've been having fun the whole time. Opinions, and you can't be telling other's are wrong just because you disagree. That and he also has a point: you didn't experience the whole of it.
How can you complain about an expansion (do I need to define what an expansion is?) if you haven't fully experienced it? To be honest, the most boring part for me was leveling dark knight up until 50 (non-exp content) - but I loved the job quests that came with it! And the way the job plays!
You came here and started complaining about the whole expansion so you should expect that some of us counter your arguments. Even more so when you have no knowledge overall.
On another note your friends bought a 50+ dollar expansion but they gave up right at the start? Let's be honest here, they weren't trying and you know it :p (talk about wasting money too; hope they request a refund!).
No game can please everyone. You and your friends will eventually find one you like.
I'm actually hoping that you said "I'm quitting this game"
From my perspective... So far I'm enjoying it.
I can see how the character evolved and I know how the conflict goes on and SE separate it nicely between the character.
I believe Tataru still looking for a clue about our lost Scions members, that's why she volunteer herself at the tavern.
I want to know how the story goes....
If you can fly straight away, there is no adventure in it.
That's why WoW release fly after few patch, even in Draenor they still use land mounts.
Ok, now I'm pretty convinced you're either just trying to troll us, or you really shouldn't be playing a story driven game such as FF in the first place. Saying "Ew, reading, I'll skip that. Only cutscenes for me!" and then complaining that the story is weak is just...
they did work a lot on improving the map and make you explore this, i don't see what the point of your complain there. what i read is i want to fly over the content and avoid trouble and simply speed run stuff.
it's not always fetch quest, but it's part of the mmorpg game type. and most of the time this sort of quest are there for make you meet people and learn about....story
well we are wanted and trying to lay down the time to find a way to counter attack, without forget that we are not that know in ishgard we need to start from the unwanted for reach high into the society of this place. without forget that we don't know the detail of what happend around.... and you can't go on epic moment to epic moment without this sort of time of rest that allows to develop the deep part of the world.
if you play a final fantasy and are complaining about story...sorry but you really need to rethink why you play it. you have tons of other mmorpg with less story content or less story driven...
*sighs* this one is the best.... most of the Final Fantasy game have tons of filler quest and sub quest uninteresting you know? the epic moment are often tie to 5-7 per game nothing much.
ps: for the one that don't want to read all, he simply complaining about doing the story and read it.... while doing it as fast as possible!
Actually what did you want to get out of the game?
Were you looking to dive straight into raids and combat? because it seems like you were, with tall the cutscene-skipping and what not - but that itself is quite repugnant to the final fantasy franchise, that it is story based.
What I hated the most in ffxi was that main scenario was almost optional - I pretty much got to 75 and halfway through wotg without actually doing much of the main story (got to eld'narche for roz; stuck at minotaur for CoP cuz no1 wanted to do it; toau barely did anything). I was really glad that ffxiv weaved the story into the gameplay and that anyone could enjoy the story - moreover, HW quests are way better (save the moogle ones but it was only 3 quests that got stuck in the middle of the main scenario, unlike the chain of pre-Titan quests).
It's a philosophical issue - i dont understand why you are in a rush. enjoy the story, talk to NPC - after all that is what final fantasy is about.
I didn't want to write anything at first but since it's about first impression here goes...
1) Theres a lot of reason to go back to a map.. Like Gathering, level other classes, help friends. The zones looks amazing anyways so I don't see any issues here.. I haven't personally went there myself but have seen them with my family member's toon.
2-3) What did you expect? We are in Ishgard! A place where nobody knows about our exploits, what we accomplished. We have to gain our reputation back. They also have struggled for a very long time, and we are complete strangers, if it wasn't for the people we met in Coerthas to begin with, we wouldn't have been to Ishgard in the first place!
4) Everyone I play with are having a blast, and many people are actually new players, and love that it's gated behind the MSQ as it should be! There is no reason before the end of 2.0 to go to Ishgard and you would know why if you have paid attention to the story.
5) For me, FFXIV is quite epic especially with the new jobs, zones, gear. The experience is what makes it Epic. heck, I remember the first time I have set foot in Ifrit HM and found it so epic when we downed it or even worse Titan HM and EX was an accomplissement in itself. I am sorry you are dissapointed in this game but maybe it's just not a game for you.
I looove the exploration on the map. Finally there's a reason to look at everything these beautiful maps have on them.
And I find this game pretty epic, and I already enjoy the story much more than 2.0 (though I did love the story then, too). Also, I'm not sure what kind of quests you'd want to have. There are always fetch quests, "kill x monster" quests, and escort quests in every RPG. Give some examples of types of quests. I personally think the MSQ instances are much better designed this time.
That was definitely among the "whoa wasn't expecting THAT" parts of the story so far.
If you do the fetch quests as you unlock them, you do end up running all over the map and back. Guess what? You start to learn the layout of the terrain and the local landmarks. Then when you finally do all the durn quests and unlock the aethercurrents so you can fly, it makes having slogged through all the snow on foot all the sweeter. I'm proud of the fact that I've only used my compass and haven't looked up any aethercurrents yet, but I'm only done with Wsestern Coerthas and Dravanian Forelands. Much more to come!
I will tell you right now, OP: I actually enjoy the story. Some of the things I didn't know (or that didn't occur to me) have been revealed to me, and have blown me away. Things that make Ishgard's "holiness" not seem so holy, or the stuff about a certain Primaless that I was unaware of (as well as her relationship with a certain huge ass dragon). Also, the fight between Ravana and said aforementioned Primaless was badass, and I was literally jumping for joy when I realized what was going to happen (as well as when said fight was taking place).
Also, I have flight unlocked in both Dravania Forelands and Coerthas Western, and so far I've found no area (that was actually relevant) that I couldn't access without flight - it just took longer and required more creative thought on my behalf. And I applauded Yoshida for hiding some of the currents where he did.
As some people have echoed, I think you're too drunk on your FFXI power fantasies to really notice your ignorance of the game's story. I mean, Naja treated you like a chump in Aht Urhgan, right? Not to mention that getting to that place actually required you to fetch shit.
Ohhhhh WAIT a minute, I know what you refer to when you speak of "epic storyline": Chains of Promathia. In which I will kindly tell you: while I didn't play through said storyline during my time in that game, I know full well that I couldn't make sense of half of that shit, and that the story seemed "jumbled" when I read a synopsis.
As far as the end of ARR goes, pretty sure I should point out that you only "skipped" until the scene of the capture. At which point I'm about like to call out your bullshit. You didn't pay attention to a good chunk of the story and say that the "ending" was epic, but then show dismay when Heavensward treats you as a nobody. Have you forgotten how much effort (lore-wise) it took for us to even GET the Ishgardians to let us in? Hell, we were associated with a heretical House lord at the beginning of our dealings with Ishgard (prosecuted by a heretic themselves, no less). Also, heretics are more than what they seem.
Play the story, and find out for yourself.
was just talking to the FC about the expansion and how we all think they have actually made FFXIV:Heavensward feel like and actual final fantasy game. we're all enjoying it here.
Everything is actually quite ok... other then the Flight per zone only thingy (>...< By the time I'm done with the zone, only then I get my chocobo to fly. Then repeat, the same thing.
"My friends and I are thoroughly disappointed with Heavensward."
This is all I have to say: http://puu.sh/iyj8R/77818fc039.jpg
I'm only 54 on my AST so I'm not far story wise, but I loved every second of playing so far. I was blown away a couple of times.
80% of fetch quest boredom is all from those damn moogle bs fetch/ hide and seek quests in the churning mists.
All of that concentrated in tht 1 area as to how in 2.x it was EVERYWHEREEEE.
So imo 3.0 is going in the right direction. Almost want to choke those moogles for making me their warrior of errands.
But after all tht i was glad i stuck around, the vault is AMAZING if you are a dark souls fan. All tht bs fetch stuff just to experience tht dungeon was worth it for me.
I seriously tho hate those needy moogles and their soil / kupo nuts.
Almost want to punt them.
Exploring the map and attuning to aether currents before you can fly in said map is fine, but I'm not too fond of the part that they lock aether currents behind quest as well, one might figure how flying is useful especially with all the fetching quests in heavensward. I haven't been making much progress in MSQ yet due to fate grinding for DRK, but all the horrors of the 101 kupo quest I've heard isn't a good sign. I've even heard claims of people saying how SE is trying to make the players hate kupos!
Flying in this game is well done. It's what Aion should have done with their flying system. We don't have to flight through "rings" and we can stay in the air as long as we want.
I generally enjoy HW, it is going to be a bit of a downer when I'm done with the MSQ.
The only gripe i have with HW is those damn moogle quests....apparently the warrior of light needs to save the moogle squad?..seriously? XD.
And aren't dragoons suppose to be the ones dealing with dragons?
Fate runs where everyone will fly after one to go to another...thumbs up.
You know how Moogles are. Incompetent, incomprehensibly fluffy (such that they are able to invoke one of the most common "cold-hearted girl" tropes in all of anime), and all for the greater good of Truth, Justice, and the Kupo Way.
And as for that bit about dragons.... something tells me you haven't met the big guy in that zone yet (the one whose face looks more like a hound dog than a dragon, IMO). Wait until then. You'll be surprised.
Funny. Maybe it's just my server, but people tend to ignore most FATEs (only going after specific ones with VERY specific rewards). I've gotten along rather well avoiding them, tbh.
Square Enix blew it for me ♥ tee hee
1. That's a good thing. WoW removed flying because it ruined the game by allowing players to practically fly over everything. Super easy mode. Not fun at all. But SE got it perfect, while also addressing players' want for better/more exploration in HW that ARR lacked.
2. The questing in HW is much improved, mainly due to more interesting zones and more interesting quests. I only agree with you on some of the quests.
3. I strongly disagree. There is very little errand quests in HW's story compared to ARR. The story writing is much improved, and they actually make you feel more import in HW. And when there is an errand story quest, it has significance to it, whereas in ARR some of the story errand quests were literally pointless.
4. I agree with this as gating new content behind an insanely long story that will only get longer with each expansion makes it very difficult to bring in new players. I hope they solve this issue in the future.
5. You're joking right? The ending to ARR was some of the best story plotting in the history of RPGs, alongside greats such as FFVI and FFVII. And HW has kicked up the epicness even more. Just the entire concept of the giant flying whale known as Bismarck and the scenes with him is just jaw dropping in and of itself. It's about as epic as the scene from FFIX when Alexander and Bahamut fight in the city of Alexandria.
And the most shocking part of your entire post is when you say you don't feel like you are a part of a fantasy game because of the zones and whatever. I can't even believe I'm reading that. I've been playing MMOs since Everquest 1 and have played every major MMO under the sun and experienced countless expansions, and played RPGs since the mid-90s, and I'm also a fantasy addict, and HW has some of the most beautifully designed zones I have ever seen and I haven't even seen the later zones yet. The music makes it even better. When I first stepped foot into the Dravanian Forelands I was stunned. I had to stop a moment to take it in, and the music was amazing. HW is hands down the best expansion ever released in MMO history. It's not just the largest, but the quality is through the roof, and the amount of improvements over ARR is staggering. That's not even a matter of opinion. The only thing that is a matter of opinion is whether someone likes the game or not. But no expansion in MMO history touches HW.
OP just seems to me to be one of the guys that wants to play a game that hands you everything immediately.
Note, SE did *not* beta test the expansion publicly. There's probably tweaks that need to be done(xp, difficulty, whatever, it always happens), but to sit and kvetch about being an errand boy... Really? You volunteer for most of them yourself, grateful to not be out in the cold, running for your life anymore.
Come on. Whine more will you?
Actually, they put flying back in. It's going to be tied to a few factions and achievements, but flying is back in.Quote:

Sorry.
