Your retainer is only full because you are not crafting :p, get to crafting and use up some of those materials! XD

I did think it was abit odd that they increased the maximum but didn't give at least ONE free Retainer, you'd still have the option of buying another five if 3 isn't enough for you which to be honest, for the average player, that would be enough and would keep us happy. ^^ *Until we find something else to complain about xD*
The key phrase in that is "for the average player". If you gather and craft you need as much space as possible. I've got five retainers & I still have to shuffle stuff about. I refuse to get to the situation where I'm paying more per month for retainers than the game itself! XD
So is everyone just blind to the fact that giving every last player an extra retainer is going to put more stress on their data centres than two?
That's a lot of spaces to keep track of. One additional character appearance to save. More market traffic. For a supposed 4 million subscribers, and then some for people who have more than one character for whichever reason.
They would need to either optimise the way that data is already being used to make space, or find a way to recuperate for the piling stress by taking a little extra from people that are causing it. And the former option is probably already stressed to its limit, if not too risky.
The only free alternatives are to either:
Not give ANYONE the offer at all.
or
Make our servers noticeably and permanently worse. (Remember those delays for your retainers, or when it told you it couldn't load the cutscene? More annoying than that.)
The way it currently is just the best middle-ground. And the extra cost is nothing if you're actually earning your own money to play this game. If you're on a student loan and think the extra cost hurts, what damage is the normal sub doing? They know we want more space guys. Storage was even acknowledged in the last Letter from the Producer event. They just can't get more powerful hardware from wish-power. Just like an ordinary consumer can't.
And lol at the guy who thought that we should get double the retainers because the devs said Heavensward was about double content. New content (creative assets) is not to be confused some matters that are going on server-side. You're hardly paying double the subscription. In fact they're not making you pay nearly as much as that for the thing you're upset about. You need to understand that none of what you've got back from your payment was free. That goes for everything from paying an employee for the smallest hotfix to giving us more to do with content patches. Not to mention that their employees aren't bottom of the barrel. They didn't educate themselves to live without a disposable income. If they say they worked at SE, they can pack up and find all sorts of other devs that could take them.
Bit of a big post just for retainers I know. But this thread reeks of entitlement and uninformed opinions.
agree that more retainer space is a big stress on data centers.
solution: make the armoire functional for ALL unique/untradeable gear. it would quite literally solve all these problems.
If the servers were already stressed to the breaking point before the first expansion even launched, there's something very seriously wrong with the way that server architecture is designed. Poor design isn't the player's problem.
I would point out that other MMO companies seem to manage to give people additional space without increasing their subscription fees. No MMO that I know of makes people RENT their bank space. Most every f2p game makes you buy more space if you want it, but not RENT it.
Also 4 million subscribers? No. 4 million registered accounts is not the same as 4 million subscribers.
One thing that would help? Increased stack sizes.
Also, the fact I have several high level jobs I like playing is killing Kelren's bags. He holds all my glamour, and I don't even really have a lot.
Also, ffs, can the armoire hold augmented and i90 artifact sets? Please? Even if it strips the dye, idgaf. That's a lot of space right there.
Just a thought but have any of you considered the possibility of converting some of your held items into Gil? You can hold 99,999,999 Gil and with 2 retainers you can have 299,999,997 Gil which should be *way* more than enough that you'd ever need! If you sell the items for a decent price you can always just buy them back later on if you find out you need them...
This won't work with armor though because of the binding system though, so if you're overstocked with armor you want/need that won't go into the chest in the inn then I suppose that is definitely a problem this solution won't fix. If not though having more Gil generally gives you more money which lets you make more money in return!
