More echo and/or nerfs to final coil.
Well good for you and your 2 characters. And good for me since i have my clear as well. Not so good for all those ppl beyond your understanding(again and for the third time...) that are not even getting a chance to try the fight because no one wants to even attempt it anymore.
And to be clear, i'm not trying to equate the difficulty of SoF fight to CoP(and let's be real, CoP was not hard. Keeping a static together long enough to clear it was the hard part). All i'm saying is the situations are quite similar imo. There is a fight or series of fights that effectively locks the majority of content of an expansion behind it.
I'm sorry but I can't empathise with players who still didn't clear SoF. Now I am not a particularly good player. I tend to die a lot during EX Primals. But I still managed to beat SoF on the day after it came out. It's not that difficult if you have the basic common sense to do what you are told. Damit, Titan has more mechanics. Unfortunately 99% of the people on DF are simply there to troll. I refuse to believe that some people are so imbecilic that commands like: "get behind the canon and shoot, only shoot the lance when I say so, and someone go up that tower" are beyond their capabilities. Yes, the only sensible answer is that they are trolling. But even without the mechanics it is doable if you understand your class and have a reasonably high item level. Reasonably high being over 100, which is quite low considering that WoD had been up for two months when 2.55 was released. You have all these and still can't do it because of pugs are bad? No problem. Use Party finder. I cleared it with the first PF group I joined. We had 3 attempts. On the third the first lance hit, the second missed and Vishap died before we even got to the third tower. It's that simple. And even that wasn't necessary as we had a FC run scheduled for that evening. This is very important. FFXIV is an MMO. A social game. If you want to play Heavensward I assume you already have a decent Free Company to craft airships. A decent FC will help you clear SoF. Hell, a decent SoF will carry you.
Sympathy is irrelevant, as are opinions. It's the raw numbers that matter. If less than half your active player base is going to get to play your incoming expansion due to lock-out... just how good do you think your next fiscal year's profit margins are going to look?
FFXI's CoP is what choke-held FFXI's numbers to about 500k when it could have had exponential growth like WoW. It took them years to figure out that they just bottle-necked their content so much that barely anyone had completed it.
If FFXIV is truly banking on requiring people to have completed ARR's story to even touch Heavensward, then they're going to have to keep the entirety of ARR's main story at the same sort of learning curve it's been maintaining. Right now, numbers are leaning otherwise.
It doesn't matter what anyone believes, or has an opinion on. This is a matter of raw numbers and how many SE wishes to preserve. If SE followed the desires of only their hardcore or hardcore leaning members we quite simply wouldn't have a game.
If you came into get your car oil changed and fluids topped off, and I told you to 'grow up' and change your own oil, you'd take your business elsewhere. That's effectively what you are telling these people.
dragoons are getting nerfed.
it seem the numbers of clears aren't that bad. It is still in the green area for SE.Quote:
They are thinking about whether they should add rewards to or adjust the difficulty of Steps of Faith. Although the clear rate of the battle isn't too low, they realize the battle can be quite long. Once they decide what to do, it'll be added as an adjustment in one of the patches. (Yoshida)
I don't see the reason for your DF thing. I use it all the time and have passed Steps of Faith using it. It sucked trying to get a group that could actually clear but after several failed attempts I finally was able to complete.
It wasn't absolute fun but the fight itself is not overly difficult the mechanics just have to performed properly with everyone doing their part. Coming down on DF doesn't really solve anything. Not everyone is or wants to be in FC's with tons of folks. There is the benefit of being in one that allows for more dependent grouping. DF people are rolling the dice when they queue. No need to add to that stress...
EDIT: In reply to 'Nalien' on the front page.
Maybe even prepairing for the "Pre Release" for those that pre order Heavensward?
But most likely something to do with Steps of Faith.
Regarding Steps of Faith, they have to make it worth the time spent on it, because if Sol is the only thing introduced, I can guarantee myself and many other persons won't give it a chance in Trial Roulette. I'm going to leave every SoF they place me into :P
People said that there is too much easy content and some hard content but no medium content, they added one. Steps of faith definitely is not hard, but not easy also. People cried for nerf.
We have definitely sent a good message about what we want to developement team.
actually, ain't may 15th also when the codes for HW should be activated for use? :O
Everyone's "role" isn't really presented all the well given the party composition of 2 tanks, 2 healers and 4 dps (although, its not like the other HM primals have done this well since they only need 1 tank). I mean honestly, what was the first thing you did when you have four dps, see two cannons, a NPC yelling at you that your attacks will "avail little" against vishap and adds swarming your healers and tanks?
Then it sounds like the roulette has failed. If people would rather get NO tomes for 30 min, then spend 30 min helping someone get through a trial then there really is no reason to have a roullette. Or option 2, make everything so easy that no1 can fail. Alexander hard mode would the only thing that isn't easy and 97% of players won't do that either. Kinda sad this is what people want from games now a days. It's not even a game anymore; more like a movie that you mash buttons to advance.
things that most likely come in 2.57
More echo in fcob 15% most likely maybe 20% depending on numbers clear data they have in the data center which may make them add slight nerfs to turns damage and other stuff
maybe something to Steps but i really hope they dont as it not hard is good trial and not hard
pony drop rate increase (might happen)
bug fixes and normal patch stuff
on another note why do people want the postmoogle hat dyeable i see not point in them adding that option
I don't have it on hand, but in a interview it was said that they don't plan to remove it because i130 is pretty high going into expansion (supposedly first 60 set is 135? Not sure on that bit). Wouldn't be the first time they change their mind on something they said, I'm just not getting my hopes up.
If the majority of the player base waits for nerfs before they beat content, then they're never gonna improve because they're just gonna wait for the next set of nerfs every time. Improve your skill don't ask for a dumb-downed version it'll eventually run the game into the ground.
The problem is that you have the good players, the average players, and the bad players. The good players blew through it the first week, along with most of the average players. What's left needing the fight is some average players and a lot of bad players. Stick 3 bad players in a run, and it's very hard to beat it.
The same is true with Odin fight. I tried to DF it a few times after they released cards and the parties were made up of 2-5 people going for a carry. The dps wasn't even close, and a few people couldn't grasp the concept of dodging.
No. At the very least that's not what I am saying. I'm saying that if a customer wanted to get his car an oil change and one of the mechanics couldn't change the oil and couldn't be bothered to get a few of his colleagues he knows personally to help him change the oil I wouldn't wait for the customer to come back with a simpler car. I would sack the mechanic and change the damned oil myself.
I don't wan't subscribers to leave at the same pace wow subscribers leave nowadays. But if SoF is too hard for someone after beating Titan, Garuda, Nabriales and Clearing Stone Vigil, Praetorium and Keeper of the Lake, they really need help. And if they cant be bothered to ask for help and listen to the advice they should be asking well they have no place in a game that is built on social interaction and cooperation.
I apologize if this offends some people but this is my oppinion as a completely average player, and I'm going to stick to it.
Hopefully they are also being prepared and putting the afk kick timer back in the game, if pre-order sales and current subscriptions did well.
Ah, the e-peen is strong in this one. Hardmodes are for guys who need constant stroking, other people don't even like dungeons and just want to get through it so they can enjoy some story and move on to the rest of the game.
And that would be why Square-Enix runs a multi-million dollar company and you don't.
Any dungeon that is explicitly tied to the advancement of the main storyline should have a less-intensive "story mode" ( with the appropriate reduction in gil/gear reward of course ).
I'm just tired of people asking for nerfs to content that isn't that hard. I've dabbled a bit in Coil, I've done some EX modes, the difficulty doesn't come near any of it. This at most is like the original AK before the nerfs, not that hard, people just need to know their jobs.
Honestly Steps of Faith currently is that "Middle difficulty" that lots of players are clamoring for. In fact we've had lots of "middle difficulty" in this game but it usually gets quickly nerfed to "easy difficulty" making an ever worsening gap between easy content and actually hard content.
Sof is easy, Sof is hard, either doesn't matter or isn't the issue here, the issue is they locked a 40$ expansion behind it.
If for whatever or no reason a noticeable % of the player base believes they cant now or never will be able to clear it, why bother buying an expansion and making SE 40$, or for that matter possibly a continued subscription.
In the current day gamer climate locking player participation in this expansion behind this clear to me was simply a bad idea.
I am well aware that they most likely did this to try and stem some RMT issues, still think this approach with the current gamer mentality as well as the continuing RMT issue, is trying to shoot their own profits in the foot.
This seems more like an RMT gate tactic to me than anything else, and if this is truly the case dealing with them in this fashion is just so, lol.
All SE needs to do for SoF is make it drop loot. That's all. Here's a suggestion for possible loot: Unweathered Soldiery armour. Sure, it'll make the Sands of Time in ST irrelevant, but at least ST has incentive to be run at least once a week (for Coat/Twine/Tome).
Theres a thing called a learning curve where games normally get progressively more difficult as you get further into it. The last level of a game isn't suppose to be just as easy or easier than the first level. As you play the game you learn things and get better at playing it, and conquering new challenges makes you even better than you were when you first stepped into Sastasha. The more they nerf even the easy content, the more this game loses it's learning curve to the point where everything is just beaten first try w/o any effort. That is not good game design.
HOW ABOUT SOME FREAKING HOUSES!!!
Seriously I can't believe they are leaving this until the expansion, the houses are needed now! I've been waiting forever to do gardening and put all my housing items in a place that doesn't take up HALF OF MY RETAINER!!! (After leaving my FC room when I switched)
And I can understand that. That's why I think a "storymode" option, where there's no gear drops or anything, would benefit everyone. Those who hate dungeons and just want to get the story unlocked and move on can do so, and those who want/need the gear can still do the "regular" or harder modes as usual with all the gear/gil/titles/whatever benefits they normally get from said dungeon. No nerfing needed.
What I think many forget is this is a Final Fantasy game. Just like a Star Wars game ( SWtOR ), there are many people who want to play it simply for what Final Fantasy is primarily known for: story. They could care less about BIS gear or slogging through mandatory dungeons just to unlock the next bit of story. It's just like the singleplayer FF rpgs. You'll have people who will grind out the xp to get 9,999 stats, hunt down and kill an Omega Weapon, etc.; and then there are people who just aren't good enough or motivated enough for all that, they simply do the bare minimum to eek through and enjoy the story.
A storymode provides an opportunity to give both audiences with what they want and as a bonus retains those who may quit out of frustration/hopelessness after being locked out of the story because they're "not good enough".
I don't think everyone begging for nerfs just wants to experience the story. Some percentage of them, maybe. But lets face it, a lot of people want it nerfed because they want the gear, but it's just too hard for them.
Wait for the expansion. Even though Alexander will have a story mode, I bet you people will still complain hard mode should be nerfed. I'm calling it now. They'll say it's unfair that hard mode gets better gear. They'll complain that they don't have time to devote to finding a static. They'll whine about instant kill mechanics. Talk about how it isn't fun. ETC ETC ETC. All the same complaints we get now will still be present.
In every single MMO there is a segment of the population that is flat out jealous of players walking around in better gear, clearing harder content than they can. They see it as unfair. "I pay the same subscription fee... just because I have a life and they don't... blah blah blah... whine whine whine."
The difference between this MMO and others, is that SE sadly listens to these people. Ever since the original AK and Pharos were nerfed, the game has steadily gotten easier. No dungeons since those have been challenging. The EX primals have gotten easier. Final coil even before nerfs was easier than 2nd coil (which btw, no longer even exists in it's original form, because of nerfs). And no matter how many nerfs SE gives, they want more. Every patch that comes along is a sea of posts saying "I hope they nerf this... I hope they nerf that... I hope they make this easier..." and when somebody dares suggest that, I don't know, maybe don't nerf everything into the ground, they get downvoted or ignored. I've come to dread patches for this reason.
For some reason this community wants this game to be a MMO for babies. I'll never understand it.
I would like it if they would let us FINALLY turn in gear from Ramuh, Shiva and Second Coil for seals. I have a bunch of gear languishing on my retainers that I want to turn in but can't.
A temporary access to Ishgard to walk around the city at least would be nice before actually doing anything in Expansion would be nice.
I'm afraid about the only way that's going to work is to actually force players out of the game (and there MAY be a clause in the EULA to allow for it - there was in XI, but no one used it as such!) for players who won't. (And there are a lot who believe I am one of them.)
The clause would be a matter of Game Disruption.
And I'll take you a step further. If you have to nerf it to get more than a 15-20% clear rate (and, yes, I do think it's that low!), then it comes down to either enforcing "Get Good!" or you shouldn't have had it that hard in the first place.
That's basically it. Since they didn't put their feet down sooner, now they have no choice but to let it play out as it has.
