You know, it is possible to have this event then a Halloween event, just sayin'.
So I was right. :3
We're going to the moon.
I thought this event is for the Mid-Autumn Festival, which will be on September 12 this year.
So this event is for the RL Chinese moon festival huh?
In many Asian countries, we eat "Moon cake" right now, so it might drop from event mob.
No. We haven't found anything out yet, we've yet to see what's actually going to unfold. Hell, it might come to us before we go to it.
But hey, you predicted SOMETHING about the moon (like quite a few others) so go on, pat yourself on the back like you seem to want so badly.
I love these little events. really helps to make the game world feel alive.
Hmmmmmm this story sounds familiar XDQuote:
The inexplicable happenings assailing Eorzea of late seem to know no cease; as one incident begins to fade into the dark reaches of memory, another emerges to take its place.
Recent moons have seen the nation in the grip of apprehension at the changes exhibited by Dalamud. Those who have an interest in astrology will know Dalamud to be the celestial body that orbits the moon in perpetual dance. For others the name will recall childhood tales of the loyal hound of the moon goddess Menphina, who would put to flight in a flurry of torn flesh and gushing blood those who meant his mistress harm.
Whatever it is Dalamud conjures up in your mind, lately it has taken on such an angry red hue, even those ordinarily indifferent to the affairs of the heavens have been hard-pressed to ignore the change. Verily, a growing number of citizens are seeing this as an evil portent. With a sanguinary eye seeming to glare down at all creation, you can scarce begrudge folk their sense of foreboding.
For some, it would seem this so-called “curse of Dalamud” has already become grim reality. During my investigation, I came upon rumors of a small company of Ul'dahn goldsmiths whose entire shipment of earrings was stolen—earrings themed upon the twin moons withal. My curiosity roused, I sought a meeting with the leader, one Master Joldewin, who related with unrestrained misery the misfortune that befell him and his two apprentices.
The earrings had been commissioned by the Adventurers' Guild, he began, and were meant as gifts of gratitude to be presented to adventurers for their part in vanquishing the Bombards of the summer past. The earring's design, which Joldewin proudly explained is of his own devising, comprises a single lustrous pearl to which a smaller crimson gemstone, wrought of meteorite found during the Bombard outbreak, is joined in a tasteful homage to the Keeper of the Twin Moons.
The goldsmiths toiled many a sleepless night that they might fulfill the order by the stipulated deadline. Here, and ever so briefly, an expression of joy formed on the veteran goldsmith's face as he recounted the day the fruits of their labor were borne away by delivery caravans. Alas, the earrings never arrived at their intended destinations. En route to each city-state, the caravans were beset by—and I quote—“packs of overgrown white rodents,” who made off with every last earring.
As I sat dumbstruck, struggling to visualize a pack of rats bearing away ornate earrings—four to a crate, perhaps—Joldewin's voice shrilled in anger as he revealed to me the loathsome individual he suspects to be mastermind behind the theft: the Lord of the Rats. Aye, you read true—that thief of legend said to hold dominion over all rodentkind, whose imaginary exploits have served to fascinate and frighten many a youngling at bedtime.
Most folk, upon hearing Joldewin's story, would doubtless be inclined to think that he and his crew, despairing of meeting the deadline, fabricated an excuse out of their desperation to save face. I would be lying if I said the selfsame suspicion had not crossed my mind. Yet stranger things have happened, and I, for one, will not rush to pass judgment. Should your travels bring you within earshot of lamenting goldsmiths, dear readers, mayhap you could lend an ear to their side of the story, that you might discern for yourself the truth of the matter.
And here I take my leave of you. Till next time, may the Twelve watch over you.

Yoshi-P has said that there was to be an event before the haloween event.
This makes me curious about the delivery date for 1.19.
Of course they can drop an update whenever they want, but their mo has been Tuesday or Thursday and even through XI they don't interrupt an event with a patch. Assuming they're likely to start the Haloween event on the 29th, patch day may be 22nd or 27th!
Either way, I'm really looking forward to both. The Treat Staff was a long-time favorite bit of town gear for me so I'm excited to see what the XIV team comes up with.
*groan* at more event items coming before event storage.
But event will be nice.
Since this even ends on the 20th, I'd say the patch 1.19 should be on the 22nd if there are no unexpected delays. However, regardelss of that, the Halloween event is not likely to start in september. Halloween is October 31st, the event will probably start around mid October, no?
Just a thought.
You're absolutely correct. I got a little over zealous there and forgot about a whole 30 or so days there hahaQuote:

See this is the crap that pisses me off! Why aren't they making useful stuff like epic new dungeons and epic fights and awesome abilities and sick gear instead of wasting their time on this silly crap? Ugh way to go SE!
Just kidding. I'm stoked, I'm on vacation all next week so this works perfectly.
Only thing that scares me about 1.19 is that they havn't given a date yet, and I think with 1.18 IIRC they gave us a pretty accurate date about a month prior.
On the other hand, maybe this event is just to keep us busy with something new untill the 22nd/27th...
IS this supposed to be the Halloween event? If so Can't wait! :)
It's not halloween event, I've translated something relating to Halloween before from the reps and they left a hint for this event in here.

Please not another sick ariel mermaid music all the time. i really like the bg music outside of cities since 1.18.
Who wants to bet that the Lord of Rats is Urianger? >_>
I bet on another reference to a FFXI NPC...We already got references from Mihli (easter) and Lhu (summer festival) so assuming this event will follow the pattern i'd expect another reference from there...and since we alread got references from ToAU and WoTG i'd expect one from one of the other expansions...maybe a SMN NPC since these dormouses are so carbuncleish! =P
The lord of the rats is a quqirn (I mean, it actually makes sense *for those like myself who are FFXI vets and notice the obvious references to the expansion packs*). I want a crown that turns me into a fluffy marmot.
Interesting. This event come out of nowhere, I'm still wondering what the deaspected crystals are for XD
you collect the deaspected crystals, then take them to a taru NPC in Gridania north of the carpenter's guild for prizes.
That Red Moon Has this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trjDD...eature=related
Feel to it.. better get going before the Red star crashes into Gridania!...
NOOOOOO!!! MY HOME NATION DESTORYED!!! >.<
Hmmm...got the earring, some walnuts...and that's it. ; ;
No quest this time? Couldn't find NPCs regarding the event...
Anyway...its a pretty good earring for its rank...and having slot cost 1 makes it VERY useful.
Here some SS for the curious ones!

I'll just repeat what I said in the other thread about this:
.Quote:
This event runs until September 20th, there is no way an event runs that long and this is the only thing it has going for it. I guarantee there will be more to this in the coming days. Kind of like the Spring Event with the eggs. We had no idea how to get the other helmets but that was because we had to wait for part 2 of the event
It may run that long if they wanna give everyone a chance to get their fill of nuts.
Anybody thinks that maybe this is Mog related? I mean with the nuts and all.
Much like the egg helmets, the later part of this quest could hold off opening up until towards the end of the month. Maybe when we start getting the meat for 1.19 patch.
I must say. I'm rather disappointed in the way this event is handled.
From what I gather standing here at the Mythril Pits. A handful of rats spawn. Everyone runs to claim, one person gets it. Often Ranged > Melee. They die in a split second and ultimately it's a claim fest; reminding me of why I don't like competition. I've had my fair share of claims. It's just combined with the unwillingness of the people here to party, it just makes things ridiculous; for everyone.
Edit: I just want to say that I'm not complaining about what the development team have done. Rather about the communities unwillingness to party. Though I know this isn't always the case. The earring is beautifully modeled and looks very pretty.
I think the Bombard problem could have easily been solved with one little addition. You need say. 5~10 of them "Red Flashes" in order to claim a prize from the NPC. The fact that you could get it just for standing around purely defeated the point of having to run after the bomb; perhaps this was the original plan but they failed to implement such a feature in time? Though I'm not sure if the coding would have been too hard for checking if a player had interacted with the King Bombard NPC.
Could this be Dalmud & Menphina on the CE cover art?
