Being Called A Botter

That happened to me when i was leveling my ROU/NIN when it came out, got to 50 in 2 days from fate grinding, people are just jealous, that's all :D

I plan on leveling DRK AND MCN in 2 days, not worried about AST until a later time.

I am planning to get all my jobs to 50 before heavensward so I should probably rename after that because half of the people here will call me bot.

Should send them a fake bot like /tell looool

Who on earth finds it odd that MMO players pull absurdly long grinding sessions? Nearly all of us have done that at one time or other.

It is possible that mob mentality took over in Coerthas that day. People hate bots. HATE. If there was anything you were doing that really looked like a computer was running the character instead of a person, folks gonna be all up in your shit. (I don't mind FATE grinding. Did it quite a bit yesterday since I wasn't well enough to dungeon, but I party up with FC mates or join PFs for this. You get more exp since mobs killed by party members counts for you, why didn't you do this? Would've stopped the bot argument before it started... )

But to say you're just gonna let it go while yet continuing to post here.... =_=

Each one that messages you about being a bot, report them then put them on ignore. There can't be that many different people and eventually it will just blow over.

Don't let them bother you OP. It's not their job or place to confirm or investigate bot activity. That's a GM's/STF's job. This is exactly why its a reportable offense to harass a player, whether its spam opening trades, /tells, and especially public shaming in /sh.

Report them and im sure a GM will happily give them a scolding. I feel bad for the GM's i dont think they get paid extra to babysit the whiny players that are harassing you. Shame on them.


Players are merely allowed to submit reports if they have a suspicion, but thats it, they aren't professionals.

People react different ways when they are upset. I'm upset and I had a reaction to a post. I'm human, I can't change that. I was in a party with my wife most of the time, and during the late late hours of the night during a weekday there's pretty much no one on and struggle through the fates solo or with 1 or 2 other people. I haven't even seen a leveling bot to be brutally honest. the people in the fates with me are not just standing there. they dodge AoE, they do full rotations, etc. Only farming bots is what I've seen and reported.

You'd think if i decline someones trade window, say "wtf is your problem" while other people also do it to me blows my mind. If this is how you people are checking to see if actual levelers are bots then you're ruinging that players experience. Even reporting because they don't respond to /tells. What if I'm on a controller and don't use a keyboard? I literally just learned how to use the [TAB] #2, #1 for the translated hello. I never knew how to use that stuff because I only talk in Raidcall. Hardly ever type unless I'm bored out of my mind.


To the people who understand: thank you. your words of encouragement helps but I think I'm going to take a few days off. No sense in getting back on right now. I do have the people blacklisted but I just don't want to hear that /tell sound if it's more people bothering me.

To the people who don't and think my story is off: I have been an active member in the game since 1.0. I have paid a ton of money with sub services etc. I have dedicated more time into this game than any other because honestly no MMO compares to it. Even 1.0 was better than any other MMO I've played. If I'm a botter, I wouldn't come posting on the forums talking about it, risking me losing my account. Common sense is that would be just plain stupid. I came here fully knowing how a majority of the forum is "you deserved it" kind of attitude, which is why I'm ignore most of your posts who don't have the common sense to figure that out.

Thank you to everyone who posted. Yes, even the posts that were trying to discredit my OP. You have confirmed for me that it's just the people being spiteful and have more time on their hands to bother me than to actually play the game.

Report them! There are some sorry people that play. They have nothing better to do than to accuse people of botting. And how the hell do you bot fates? Didn't think that was a thing. I've seen plenty of level 50 miner bot.

In my FC I know people who are playing for atleast 6 months and never write because they have gamepad and they just don't like the way writing with gamepad works, they are often turned to busy or afk (if you turn afk off manualy it won't turn off automaticaly) because of bots and they play a lot. So what now? Should I report them all and spam every linkshell that they are bots? According to what I have read here, I should.

Be calm OP, you have my support and support of many other sane persons. Find a friendly FC and a few friendly statics and don't care about what people thinks. If you haven't used bot you won't get banned.

From what I can gather from what has been said, I would say that the people obviously know that you are not a botting and are just trolling you and getting their buddies to do it too.

The question is then, why are they doing it?

While entirely possible that they are just randomly being jerks, I find there is usually more to it than that.

Reading through the thread, you came off sort of aggressively reactionary, at least to me and apparently some others. It may be that it was this attitude that come across to someone in-game which pissed them off and so they started a personal crusade to harass you.

This doesn't put them in the right and you should report harassment, but I suggest maybe reflecting on your reactions and how you interact with others as it could potentially be a catalyst for such altercations.
Making excuses such as "I'm human, so its okay" personally don't hold water IMO. Yes people are human, yes they will slip up and make mistakes but being human also means that you have the ability to learn, think and control your actions. Just because you are human and have an emotion, doesn't mean you can't control or dictate how you act upon that emotion.
To be fair though, if those harassing you are doing so because something you said pissed them off, they are just as guilty of this.

Anyways, that's my opinion on all of this and some potential food for thought.

Honestly the only thing I could have thought of that would have pissed someone off was the fact that i ran through the hunt spawn by accident, it triggered, I died but nothing happened right away or for a full 3 hours later. I was typing to my FC friends and the auto run just took me in. I think it was a hunt? it was a spawn I've never seen before since I don't do the hunts and never cared for them. If it was something important and I caused it to fail, then i can understand why I'm being messed with but if thats the case, someone could have filled me in saying why did you do that, now (insert what happened after I triggered it) doesnt work or something.

Hunts don't agro unless you do something to them, so that was most likely not the case.
Perhaps it was responding to someone checking if you were a bot by initiating a trade with something along the lines of "WTF is your problem". While many would just be like " whatever", that could potentially put someone off.

People in the game have their pitchforks and torches at the ready for anything that they could perceive as potential rmt or botting, unless they themselves are doing it *cough*wedding bands *cough*. Because of this people make stupid assumptions such as this person is mining a lot, they must be a bot! In such instances people will do things such as send tells or initiate trades to see if the player reacts, with the assumption that if they do not make a discernible human response they most likely are a bot and should be reported. Its happened to me while grinding gathering and I usually just respond with a "yes, did you need something?", in which case they tend to just go away. Responding in an aggressive manner can make someone hot under the collar and make them want to harass you.

I think this just snowballed into a server-wide hate fest. What started out as curiosity to see if the person was botting ended up becoming a witch hunt. The OP responding to shouts (and staying there throughout) probably didn't help.

For those who say OP's story if fishy can you elaborate?

Pretty sure you wouldn't be known as a notorious botter after one night of gameplay. There must be more story behind this than what you've told us.

I have no idea what the whole wedding band thing is to be brutally honest. I just married my soon-to-be wife in 2 weeks, in the game last Saturday and I haven't heard anything about this wedding band fiasco.

It really hasn't been a short amount of time for the spamming continued into this morning as well from people no registered to FC's so I don;t know. It all stopped 9am and I was able to put together a peaceful party finder for levi ex with no issues so I don't know why this happened to me honesty. I'm not a massive dick in the game to anyone really.

not really much more to the story. what I've said is pretty much all I got to give. I havent booted anyone out of the FC since I got to the server, I've made quite a few friends and can;t really say I've been yelled at in dungeons or raids so I have no clue. If you can figure it out, there'd be a reward for ya maybe.

btw, B ranks are the only hunts that don't aggro on sight. Their symbol is blue. The A and S ranks have red/orange symbols and will squish you like grape if you come within range.

I only said "wtf" to the guys who kept opening the trade menu with me while I was trying to get the fates down. I mean, can someone fill me in what happens when the A rank is aggroed and the person who started it (apparently the only person there) dies, does it reset? Does it disappear? Why are the hunts so important to go out of someones way to make my game time hell.

I've run past A ranks within touching distance many times and not been agroed by them, so that may be true but I've never dealt with it.
Besides if someone agros a hunt mark and dies and nobody else is there it doesn't mess it up, it just resets.

Yeah, it resets. But hunt aggro is a thing (and I don't mean the mobs' aggro >.>; ), you can find many many threads here on the OF about the drama associated with hunts. That you auto run from FATE to FATE can also come across as "bottish". I would say part of the reason those of us who were there are saying something is fishy with your story is cause we have spent nearly 2 years staring at bots and wishing them gone. We know what they look like and how the move in the game. To so aggressively target an actual player for being a bot... well, that is just REALLY strange... unless something about what you were doing was very akin to what bots do. (Yes, FATE bots were a thing.) *shakes head* I've been trying to visualize this myself... only thing I can come up with is that you were auto running into rocks and walls and shit (bot like behavior) or staying in one place and throwing shuriken at sheep over and over. Which you say you weren't doing. So, it just seems really weird that others who saw you would grief you so much.

At that point, my logic says that you may have pulled hate from folks out hunting for A/S ranks and that, if you replied in a "I've been doing FATEs here for 14 hours straight and I hate your face" tone, they may have reason to be angry at you. :/

And lastly... Coerthas? seriously? Land sakes, you should've moved on to North Than by level 45. I mean... Dark Devices, yo. :/ Folks on my server eat that shit up for those last few levels. Even during the offest of off peak hours, you can get a party for North Than FATEs.

I do know how botters run and get stuck etc. I've seen many of them farming shards since launch, and coming from another server they are in the same place with same jibberish face slammed on the keyboard names but never seen fate botters. I auto run on my mount. I'm not made of money so I only use the teleport when the Return is off cool down or Svarra popped. Again, I guess I was rude during the whole "opening trade menu with me mid fate" thing but come on, it was one after the other I couldn't even avoid the AoE causing me deaths and unwanted repair costs. I don't see how me autorunning fate to fate matters though... who holds down the "W" key or up on the joystick all the time.. I use autorun in dungeons because I'm that lazy.

Besides, had I been doing something wrong, again, I would have abandoned this thread in an instant doubt sparked (which I knew there would be) and I wouldn't be replying to everyone still. It's just very upsetting to me and I suppose I need to grow a pair and just man up with my emotions. It's a game I know but sometimes things just ugh.

As for going to CPP to level, when I go over there my gear was in no way strong enough to keep me a float. Getting kicked out of fate parties for having crap gear and dying all the time is no way to go. I never saved the leveling gear from my other classes because I had everything at 50 when the ninja came out that i converted all my other stuff to materia to sell on the server that I transferred to since I couldn't bring 2 mil only 1mil so it was all converted to sellables.

You, your wife, and your two chocobos and you should have 0 problems. :/ At this point, your FC should've lept to your defense. Like someone from my FC mentioned recently, they're like your extended family. ^^

I like to charge in there and try to claim all that I can.. and to be honest... I almost never have my chocobo out because i forget that it's a thing I can do. I never got it past rank 3 i think. Choco regen was so bad i figured that they were just there to be a tank until it died to buy you some time to try and take the add or boss down. I hate playing the safe game and at level 45 in coetheras i can run from fate to fate just beating the crap outta stuff and do what looks like real damage unlike in CPP.

Your healer bird can keep your ass alive. :/ Trust me, it's cures are real useful for FATE grinding. And if you hate playing safe game... why were you staying in Coerthas? :/

eta: And if you're in a party with others' chocobos, having 3 or 4 choco regens slapped on you makes you godly. XD

I came here in hopes of hearing from other people who have had an issue similar to this. Blacklisting and reporting in my opinion, have done no good for I have some people on my black list I know have done wrong, have screen shots, have video I've recorded and there they are, running around limsa like nothing ever happened, but i digress. I guess in a way you were right. i am seeking attention. Attention on if this is something normal now with all the bots and rmts.

I think the most logical answer is that you probably completed a fate they needed and they may have shouted to hold the fate and you didn't. Not trying to pick a side but I have seen arguements over people missing fates for books.

We are all only hearing one side of the story. We need to hear from those who were there at the time to share their side of the story. I do agree all this sounds suspicious. Lots of people do fates with no problem, people also accidentally body pull hunts all the time. They don't get called out for botting just like that.

Not many will have a story to tell because no one has been called a bot and harassed for 3 hours. You should of cleared the whole bot thing
by even responding back. Hunts, they don't even aggro unless you tagged first...You could of accidentally done that.
But no one knows 100% but you, the other people, and the great baby Jesus.
You should just get on with your life at this rate. If it's THAT bad, you can move servers.

If anything I'll guess the accidental pull of a hunt, and there we go. Name and shame in hunts

It's odd that they would even confront you thinking that you're a bot in the first place.
When I see a botter, I don't bother with it because I know I won't get a response back.

So, if all these people are sending you /tells they KNOW you're on the keyboard, otherwise, why would they even send you a /tell in the first place?

So this brings me to the point where people's suspicions arose.

Did people see your odd behavior on the day of the incident and suddenly decided that you're a bot? I don't think so.
People probably had suspicions of a botter for a few days, and when they found out that the person was playing, they probably found that the time to confront.

So, what this tell me is, there must've been a time frame where they tried the /trade, tried the /tell and you responded differently.

That's the only thing that would give me a confirmation. If somebody doesn't respond to /tells for hours on end while playing, and all of a sudden is replying to my /tells the next day saying he's not a bot etc.. That's what would confirm my suspicions.

Consistently being silent is less suspicious of being a bot, than somebody who's complete quiet one day, then chatty the next.
