Really need a system the more you run, the higher chance it will drop... instead of plain straight line %.
I dont want to end up running 70 times AK normal...
That just utter boring for me.

Trying to get the zodiac drops from the dungeons was by far the most horrific stage of the relic quest. I had to run multiple dungeons over 50 times just for a drop, and that ain't funny anymore. It's been over a month since the last time I was running any of the roulettes or doing dungeons just for a fun. I just cant run those anymore. RNG ruined the game for me outside raids and Golden Saucer.
Bad luck protection would be nice. I've got I think...7 more drops to get, and so far none of them have taken more than 5 times.
I can't imagine one of these taking 50.
Just completed my Zodiac just recently and here are the numbers (took me 25 days overall to include slacking a bit on some days)
Dzemael Darkhold - 2
Brayflox's Longstop (Hard) - 8
Halatali (Hard) - 4
Snowcloak - 14
Aurum Vale - 3
Haukke Manor (Hard) - 9
Lost City of Amdapor - 4
Sastasha (Hard) - 2
Wanderer's Palace - 31
Copperbell Mines (Hard) - 40
Hullbreaker Isle - 3
Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard) - 1 :D
Amdapor Keep - 23
Pharos Sirius - 8
Tam Tara Deepcroft (Hard) - 5
Stone Vigil (Hard) - 11
You guys must understand that making faster drop rates for the Zeta weapon will result in having a lot of people getting their i135 weapon too early and then zerg content / run out of goals too fast. Being more casual players than the people who do raids they will probably go play another MMO and SE WANTS to keep you busy until 3.0 release...
Plus take into consideration that the i135 relic grind being easy it has AT LEAST to be long otherwise there will be no balance at all with the Dreadwyrm weapons.
(I dont raid much and it took me 37 Hullsbreaker Cave to get the drop so i know what this is about)
I would say that the zodiac/zeta steps are WAY better then the animus/novus when they were released.
I finished my Novus weapon for nin Last week(monday). Lightfarming until this Monday to get Nexus. And since yesterday i got my Zodiac. Maybe iam just "that" lucky or something changed. the most urn i had was Wanders Palace 11 times. I had more of a droprate of this stuff like 1-3 runs tops. And so its back to lightfarming....... i realy cant see Garuda anymore :x.
I Agree on the Cap idea of this thread . Nobody should need 55 runs to get an Item. I think it should be 10 runs tops. Since Atma and Alex already got a "slight" buff on drops from Fates. I Think the Doungen Items will also get a "slight" buff in the Future. So If people want to be ready for Heavenward with Fukll Zeta Zodiac they "could" if they got the time.
I will finish my Zeta and Relax with that. :)
Having Two and soon to be 3 Zeta weapons, I've notice the Zodiac quest MAY to have (IMO) some sort of bug to it. I've noticed, I never got drops with too many open quest in my log. I've noticed, If the last boss room isnt colored RED the drop rates is really low maybe closer to 0 chance of getting a zodiac drop. This is PURE superstiton and is not backed by stats, Just things, I've noticed going thru this quest line 3 soon to be 4 times now. Good luck everyone!!
***rembeber this is just what "I've" noticed. Not backed by stats***
The cap idea, I dont know.....maybe it the futrue. Its a bit early to cap run rates now. I wish evryone All the luck in the World.
...and another reason why I wont ever start extremly time wasting relic quests. o_o
Anything of interest in your log will be colored in Red or orange when you go near it. Now, having too many open quests in your log will limit the amount of areas in game that will be colored red/orange. Try opening 20 quests at one time, you will not have a red circle around every area of interest. This COULD be just a limitation of the game system. ( but why risk it, clear out those old quest) Again, this all superstiton not backed by stats. Boss areas will be shown in red when the zodiac quest is active as one of your top 5 open quest. You can still get drops without the red area but the drop rate SEEMS to be very LOW, I've gotten drops about 1/20 times. With the red colored boss room my drop rate might be 10/20. Again guessing, I don't keep stats.

How the hell are you not banned and this post not deleted for dropping the F bomb? I was banned for 3 weeks just for saying " F you spell check " but I used the full F word...yea 3 week ban for that.
anyhoo, so to add something constructive to keep me from another ban...I agree with OP. I have 2 light stages to go and I begin the same dungeon grind and I do not look forward to it at all.
This is the thing though, how the dev team haven't cottoned on that this is driving people to hate the game is anyones guess.
Lets hope they have a solution for this in 3.0.
We are all familar with grind and MMOs going hand in hand but there is a thing as pushing your players too far and the whole relic chain is most definately going too far especially when you consider the steps it takes to go from the start to a Zeta.
It must have been your context. I'm an adult and will speak whatever way I want within reason of course, and there is still always a filter, to... filter, explicity words.
Anyway, I only have 5 dungeons left, so I guess I'll see this ludicrous quest to the end. I've come this far... o.O
Lol yeah the moderators on this forum are ban happy.
They ban you for anything in these forums. They don't even give a warning or let you explain yourself.
I was once banned for linking to the shop page of a person's 3D printed chocobo project. Topic was about 3D printed ffxiv stuff. They said I was advertising. Gave me 2-week ban. Didnt even ask me to remove the link they just up and banned me.
Yeah, most people are reporting numbers that are totally legit for the drop rate everyone's been quoting (10%). 160 dungeon runs for Zodiac. Compare that with Nexus pre-patch, which took 250 dungeon runs (no bonus - 167 with bonus). Sure, you also need a bunch of resources, but those are honestly pretty trivial compared to the cost of the Novus step, especially if you went with DET as one of your maxed stats. Zodiac isn't that bad, it's just the lack of a progress bar that has people freaking out.
Personally, I've gotten 12 of the 16 dungeon drops so far. AV took me ~15 runs, HM HM took me ~18, and SV HM took me ~6. The rest were ~1-3. Because I overlapped my Animus books for PLD with my Zodiac dungeons for BLM, a ton of my runs counted for both relics, making it feel even quicker.
I'll have my BLM Zodiac (and PLD Animus) by tomorrow night, hopefully, unless I get really unlucky like some of the posters here to make up for my overall good luck. Honestly, all the stages feel like they're taking the same amount of time for me.
I can't even begin to fathom doing multiple weapons past the Atma stage...
Going for Longinus and that's all I'll be able to muster. Though to see the same RNG Hell from the old Atma days creeping up into the Zodiac stage isn't encouraging...
I did farm Dusk to Down the day before yesterday, got 1 item on the 30~40 Run i've done. As for Today, i've got 4 items (it was Full Moon lol).
But... i'm totally agree with the OP, the farming is going to make me crazy, i just want to insult the first new gamer that come with no exp/stuff in dungeon because i'm to tired to explain everything and lose time on it.
Farming Zodiac is making me really bad...
If developers want to keep us busy until 3.0, then give us something fun to do. Running the same dungeon 30+ times isn't fun. Gear progresses so quickly in this game, that if you don't hurry up and grind, by the time you get the relic, it's obsolete.
I'd have no problem working at a slower pace if I knew the weapon would still be relevant in 6 months.
The later stages of the relic are all about getting people back into older content. If the purpose is to get relic questers to help people through older stuff, then how about a bonus if there is a first timer in the group? Something like drop rate is boosted for that run for zodiac or bonus light for Nexus, etc.
I finally finished mine today!
1/1 Wanderer's Palace
1/1 Haukke HM
1/1 Aurum Vale
1/27 Pharos Sirius
1/22 Tam-tara Deepcroft HM
1/3 Amdapor Keep
1/4 Hullbreaker Isle
1/1 Sunken Temple of Qarn HM
1/12 Copperbell Mine HM
1/8 Dzemael Darkhold
1/1 Brayflox Longstop Hard
1/9 Halatali (Hard)
1/2 Snowcloak
1/19 Lost City of Amdapor
1/25 Sastasha Hard
1/3 Stone Vigil Hard
Zodiac Weapon is the process I am hating the most. I can't stand Tam Tara HM, TONS AND TONS OF RUNS and still no Treasure.
This whole process is made of RNG, money and patience, but the last one is not true. Nexus was patience. Zeta is patience.
Running dungeons and dungeons which can take 30 min is not fun, there is no way in hell this would be.
It was the first runs, it was at the first hardly reported quest, but I am really sick of it now.
This is not about skills or patience, the legendary weapon requires me items which I MAY find in a dungeon? How's that suppose to involve skills (because dungeons are easy as hell) or patience (because, I repeat, you can't see your progress, you can't influence the numbers). Luck.
You MAY get your ilv125 legendary weapon.
The fact is that I am getting sick of this hell of a step, these are my complains. I don't care if you are going to like them or not, to hate them or love. I just wanted to share them.
So SE gives you i135 weapons that outclasses T13 and enables you to faceroll 99% of the current content.
The only effort required is to spam low difficulty content that 8 years old children could easily farm.
You are not even asked to know the job (already seen a full 130 Blm with Zeta that never used thunder spells).
And then this kind of whining topic still exists ? I dont get it really.
Im glad they made the relic path THAT easy and yeah THAT short now - esp. the last phase. I wont whine about it. Im much more concerned by PVP queues that start twice a week or by housing spots all full - which are real issues because you CANT access to the content. The relic grind? its just up to you to do some efforts. Try to get the ADS mount from scratch now this is another story.
I think SE was correct in creating all of these the way they are, as -that- is how Asian games are played (grind till your fingers bleed), however without demanding a nerf for us wussy NA players, and making the game harder to manage for SE, things are going to be the way they are unless there is outrage in Japan about it.
As far as RNG goes. The Atma RNG with the FATE's was seriously stupid. I got one on the first or second try for every area except the areas that had no level 40+ FATE's (Central Thanalan and Western Thanalan), I wound up camping the hardest FATE on the map to get the Atma's because all the other players or bots doing them could wipe out the trash-grade mobs before my WHM could cast anything.
With the Animus (which I'm on right now for my healer) I'm kinda like ... well this isn't so bad... because it's a collection-book type of quest, and it's not meant to all be done in one day, at worst it will take me a week. Fortunately these were all the hard FATE's but because of timing, I now have to camp the FATE's sometimes up to an hour, and hope no idiot DPS class comes in and lures the boss away with a few hits (A Bard did this to me, 3 times, and I wound up reporting them.)
But I read ahead for the Novus and kinda going "you gotta be kidding me..."
A properly designed game mechanic will not use RNG entirely to determine a result. It will use RNG to determine the window of the result. Let's say something has a 10% drop rate. The RNG property should boost the drop rate between 10% and maybe 30%, but every time the dungeon is played that initial window size increases. So let's say you ran the dungeon 10 times, If the RNG was 0 every single time, on the 10th time you ran the dungeon you would have a 100% chance of getting "required" drops. It might not be the 10th time, it could easily be the 4th time if it was 20+30+20+30. For things that are an a rare reward for easy content, the Window increase would start lower and increase at a lower rate.
That at least would result in much less whine from people who don't enjoy RNG based mechanics. You're gauranteed to get the item, eventually, much like the Echo guarantees you will finish primal content, eventually.
Do you have the quests? You can only get the drops actively needed for current steps of quests you have open. So, you can't get the Copperbell HM drop unless you've taken the "Method to his Malice" quest AND already obtained the Wanderer's Palace drop (the first step of the quest) AND turned that drop into the NPC, opening the next stage of the quest (Copperbell HM). You can do all four quests at once and have up to eight dungeons at once that will drop their items for you, but you cannot get the drops unless you are currently being asked for them.
After you finish a quest, you can immediately retake it if you want to the Zodiac quest again for another class.
Pretty much feel the same way. I don't know why SE thought cut and paste of regrinding 16 old dungeons was a good idea. If they were going to make us redo all the dungeons it should have been like books with a 100% drop. RNG is purely crap because it doesn't show skill in obtaining. Someone can get lucky and get it first go other people can go 50+ runs and never see it. And if you have to grind those dungeons more than 10 times eventually you start to get burnt out of playing the game or even bothering at all. Is that what SE wanted people to do? Grind content so much that they want to quit playing? Yea relic shouldn't be 'easily obtained' but those dungeons have very little to offer in replay value. If the dungeons themselves had more replay value, then it'd be more tolerable to do.
Amdapor Keep x19 runs already. No drops, with new players bonus or not.
12/87 total.
just wanted to share, on my war I went 1/63 on lost city of amdapor, on my nin now im currently at 0/72. feel better about your drop rates if you are lucky.
Not broken, just... obnoxious. Since it's fixed at an assumed 11%, that means there's a 89% chance or something of the item you need never dropping at all. Although unlikely, there is a chance someone could be stuck doing a dungeon for a year before seeing the item they need drop (this is what I would call: the universe hates you syndrome).
Did my Zodiak hit a few roadblocks didn't mind. I found it better than the book phase to be honest, although I do see peoples point about capping it at a certain number of runs, or having a progressivly higher drop rate.
Nobody would stop complaining but I do think even a hidden hard-cap should be put into place to prevent someone from going insane.
Tbh my main problem is the colossal grind for SEVENTY FIVE alexandrites... It just boring and mind mumbling.... If fates drop rate increases I will carry on getting zodiacs. The dungeons atma drop , from my own experience, it's been fine. it took me 25 Hours straight to get them all.
There are 4 different way to get Alexandrites: Hunts for Allied Seal and buy it straight from vendor, FATES drops, the daily dungeon mystery map and buy mystery map from soldiery. So Alexandrites are easy to farm.
I don't understand why people farm FATES just for Alexandrites, I got 10 Alexandrites every day. Most up to 12-13 Alexandrites in a day less than 4-5 hours play time. I got that part done under a week.
For Nexus to Zodiac, we are forced to RNG dungeon drop, no other choices!
http://i.imgur.com/MWBdsuY.png
the pain... I've been tracking my runs.
Alex are easy to farm but it's still the heaviest grind of the zodiac quest.
If you join the FULL A train you will only get 680 seals , that's 3 Alex . this happens every 3 hours.so in theory you need 9 hours for 10 Alex. This is only if you join the full train straight in straight out. ( lucky if you get a S Mark or don't missed an A
On top of that, from solds you can get up to 3 Alex maps (9 hours) from a FULL A train hunts.
Then the EXDR that gives you one.
So you can get up to 10 to 12 Alex a day if you stay at home and do this on a full day.But realistically if you don't have a full day to play you will probably get up to 3 or 4 Alex a day.
The grind is not hard at all cause you know what we doing but is how repetitive it becomes. It's like doing brayflox all day back in the day. That's what makes the Alex REAL grind.
Like I say if the drop rate from fates was increase, someone who is casual could probably get 10 Alex a day by doing all steps.Just a suggestion.
