Dreadwyrm Glow...

Aren't coils pure grind ?

There are countless raiders who have yet to get their dreadwrym gear due to rng saying "lol no, monk gear"

Doing a fight over and over in hopes of a drop is in itself a grind.

If you do coil you're at the mercy of rng, if you do relic your at the mercy of rng, both require you to repeatedly do content unless you have the luck of the gods.

I'm not sure where other raiders have it in their head that coils aren't grind or a time sink.

Because everyone needs that best weapon to run them some hard mode dungeons!

It feels like nowadays everyone must be able to get the best in everything. It's a taboo rewarding the best stuff for clearing the hardest content, since only a small portion of the player base will be able to do it. It creates jealousy. Sadly, the best gear atm is mostly the relic + crafted gear + some pieces of augmented ironworks/dreadwyrm. Frankly, those 130ish gear is only really relevant in FCoB. Everything else is outgeared with 120 gear anyways. Anything better for non-raiders is for pure vanity and speed running, any issues with clearing content up to FCoB are purely related to performance and not having better gear.

I liked the idea of best gear being rewarded from the hardest content, and I'm an owner of a Zeta weapon. Right now, Dreadwyrm weapons feel underwhelming and not the epic spoils for finishing the hardest stuff the game can throw at you.

I can answer this. Most raids aren't conducive to people who are unable to dedicate x nights a week to get into a static. I tried it once but raiding wasn't for me. There are plenty of other achievements that raiders get. They are the first to get mounts, minions, and the BiS gear available to them. It is much more than just a weapon. Yeah I could do a pickup group but more than half require experience. Can't get experience without doing it and so then yeah I could do a learning party. But I would rather twiddle my thumbs on a relic then sitting in Mor Dhona spamming for people to join my learning party. Information in FFXIV is monopolized. You have to have experience to go but the road to get experience is so steep it is unrealistic for the casuals like myself. While I play more than a casual I can't take it seriously.

Your post is full of contradictions. First you say you love raiding and you do it not for the gear or rewards, but to challenge yourself to be better. Then you go on to claim that in the expansion you're going to take the easy way out because everything else isn't necessary. If you really raided for the challenge and to better yourself, you wouldn't be here whining about the relic and potentially taking the easy road in Heavensward. It wouldn't matter to you what other people do. But, clearly it does matter.

Glow?!? Pfft! Give us a special sound effect when wielding these weapons!

Seriously though, I don't know if a glow would go with the dreadwyrm look--all of it is so dark with those blues and purples--but it would be nice if they had something to make them stand out more, especially compared to the relic. Maybe a subtle glow?

You're telling me a Dreadwyrm Bardiche doesn't stand out? Or any of the dreadwyrm weapons? I will admit I do have Dreadwyrm envy when I see one. That's where it is driving me nuts about this entire convo. People with straight hair want curly and people with curly want straight. No one is content with what they have.

My last statement was all snark and sarcasm, if anything. Don't take it literally. Nothing excites me more than finding out more about the new raid. However, I took the time to point out that yes, in fact, there really is little other reason to raid (beyond the love of it) as far as incentives go. Want high level gear? Get a relic. We knew it was going to be the best, so why raid? Want a Gerolt Masterwork/Ironwork weapon even just for glams? Wait for the Coil drops to be added to the Towers. Even Savage Coil offers nothing more than a title. . . and the same drops anyone can get without even running the normal SCoB. So again, why raid? Why push yourself to try harder content when it'll just be accessible without the difficulty? THIS is the problem, not necessarily the Relic itself.

This is not whining, and I'll ask you not to cheapen my words as such. I've never minced words about it: I don't like the relic quest. I don't want one. I'm not even sure I'll want the new one (I will however keep an open mind about what remains to be seen.) But I'd like reason and incentive to choose the harder path over a longer, easier one. I'll likely raid purely because I enjoy it, yes, but if the rewards are transient or lackluster, would anyone really, logically choose the harder path without adequate reward for the risk? We saw this with Hunts, initially. Why run dungeons when you could just hunt? Why raid when you could just hunt? It's risk vs reward done wrong: If I offered a million dollar prize, and the options, would you climb the mountain, or walk the trail?

I don't think they do stand out, actually. I like the draconian idea behind them and they go well with the full dreadwyrm set. I just wish they had something a little more like a sound effect or slight glow. Just something to catch your eye like the T9 weapons.

Yeah unfortunately they're a bit bland, only because they're strictly models. High Allagan had a neat ambient glow to them, Zetas have their SE-trademark sexy wispy effects to them.

Maybe like, a blue bahamut flame glow or something. But ATM the most impressive them about them is the fact they're dreadwyrm.

As for someone with a nexus and a coil wep....what were we talking about again?

Why do people find the need to have everything glow? If it doesn't glow, too bad!

Well to be honest neither weapon is required. Poetics i130 is more than enough, so for me they are both a prize for showing a certain achievement. Relic Zeta, shows you have the patience to grind it. Dreadwyrm show you got the skills (and team) to beat the hardest content in the game.

Personally I have T13 on farm but still haven't seen my sword drop, in parallel I'm working on my Zodiac Relic (about 75% done with dungeon drops) but even if I finish my Zeta and Dreadwyrm is no longer BiS, I would keep going to T13 to get it, its just a fine prize to show you are in the small percentage of population that can beat the hardest fight in the game.

I mean, I've seen dreadwyrm's before. Dull. A glow would be good.
