That can be fixed with a privacy option too. Very easy to do and RMT can't sell anything to those who don't want to hear about it.

50 a day I wish it was that few.. Now they continually send friends requests.
What I dont get is what they think they are accomplishing by spamming so much.. why do they have to spam me 5 in a row? They dont think I saw the first 4?
If they spammed less they may not end up on peoples black list or their accounts deleted as much..
To acquiesce, to the demands of RMT scumbags, equates to acceptance of a cockroach or rat infestation.
Abdication to RMT criminals (known for theft, cybercrime, money laundering, malware, and virus production) is the worst possible option. Getting used to RMT
harassment is unacceptable to reputable subscribers.
square you should just sell gill so these bots would go out of bussiness and stop lol
While RMT are annoying, I'm even more annoyed by people who actually buy gil.
The other day I was spammed with RMT that was selling gil for 700$
Seriously? Who the f**k spends 700$ on gil? If you have that much extra cash go do something more worthwhile with it.
There is a special place in Hell for RMT and people who use their services.
I understand SE is doing what they can but it's gross that players are being forced to turn off /tells in order to avoid being spammed. Which means it's probably only a matter of time before the damned RMT start /shout ads again. _-_;;
Edit: I'll just put this out here. SE, I am willing to work for free, daily at that, to put ban as many RMT as possible. My method is to ban first and ask questions later. (I'm sure there are many players who would do this for you.)
Honestly, all the STF needs to do is log in and wait to be spammed then just whip out the ban hammer. Also, the armies of blm bots should be finally dealt with....
Although, I agree that finding gil buyers is trickier and would take more time to locate but we gotta start somewhere.
Also, I do want to point out that as bleak as it seems now since so many of us are being spammed nonstop SE's measures are having an effect. The proof is in the pudding, so to speak, as in the stupidly high prices the RMT are asking for. I remember at launch when they were selling gil for 5$ and now it's over 100$.
Hitting the accounts that buy the gil is probably the most efficient method of dealing with the whole RMT problem.
We know they already track the flow of gil. The Census report shows us that. STF is going after the big time bots/rmt and ignoring the small ones tied to a "legit" account.
On my server there's a particular mass botter that likes to stamp his main char's name on the retainer followed by a taunt/troll phrase like <name>suckit <name>ownered <name>betterthanyou mind you there are over 24 retainers with names like this all with the same character name prefix.
Said retainers are always selling massive amounts of Tier II - Tier IV materias.
The char in question is a very disruptive player in /sh when it comes to Hunts and Fates, which leaves in my mind no doubt its the actual player taunting the server population as a whole. It's pretty easy to narrow down the bot characters producing these materias as we see them running around 24/7, with erratic, non-human behavior, killing mobs while wearing crafting/gathering gear.
I'm sure they can prove the accounts are tied together via the internet network, method and location from where payment of the accounts are made.
I don't know what the deal is, but our server, Midgardsormr, seems to be the absolute worst by far when it comes to this stuff. I also really wish I had taken screenshots of the OVER FIFTY BLACK MAGES on search named Gjhjia Zcnzcbv with no grand company or free company. Lately I've also noticed a LOT of bots underground, attacking stuff and teleporting around.
You know, you could just ignore them and don't buy gil?
I wanna know what exactly this group banning RMT is doing and what peanuts they're being paid.
All you need as proof of a RMT seller is the /tell. All you need as proof of botting is to go to the gathering places of these damned bots. (uldah, copperbell mines entrance, coerthas, etc)
All they need is one person logged into the game to get the /tells and throw down the ban hammer immediately. What--do they think these messages are what normal players do?
Im playing on an alt that's only about a week old and alrdy have about 60 on my BL... and got about 10 a day..., not sure if it been said b4 why not put a lvl cap on when u can send a tells, have to have at least 1 class at 15 (maybe), I know it wont stop them but slow them down for abit
I had an RMT yesterday send me four messages in the time it took me to right-click and blacklist them. Granted I also had to make a space for it.
I've actually been considering filtering tells for my LP entirely so I don't look like I'm advertising or having to black it out constantly, and that will make some things very hard depending on how I go about things.
Amen...
I just came back from hiatus of about a year and I see RMT has gotten 100x worse, not better. It's almost to the point that I don't even want to bother with chat, and close to where I dont even want to bother with the game. I can only imagine how daunting it is for new players.
Personally I ignore tells as a rule (as in I have them filtered to a chat tab I never look at unless somone specifically tells me they sent me a tell I should answer), and I continuously get random friend requests from level 1's who are obviously up to shady activites, which btw there is no option to blacklist them from the friend request menu so they can just keep re-requesting.
I'm sure SE is doing something to curtail this issue but it is far from enough. They really need to step up their game or allow us to report people. Something needs to be done because this problem is extremely detrimental to the game at this point.
I have trouble believing that. Most likely they just confiscate the Gil. If SE banned as many people as they say they have server populations would be a lot smaller then they are. I am sure that they ban the sellers and spammers but with the free trials and the like it is not hard for the RMT to return
I maded a linkshell! Ive put my friends in there >_> So we can go on busy-mode and can still chatting!
SE could make a start by stealth-banning some accounts and implementing filters on character names.
Leave the spammers' accounts intact - but hide all of their tells and other messages, so they they THINK they're spamming people, but the messages go into the bit-bucket... and they'd still be paying for their bogus account. Auto-filtering for retainers should be easy enough to set up, too - the spammer would still see all auctions, but nobody else would.
The second move would be to auto-flag any characters created with certain strings - like "Asdf*" as the first name wildcard. Any character created with that name would show up in a list to the sysops, with an option for the above stealth-ban.
I looked at a couple sites for the lulz (on my tablet, of course! I trust them about as far as I can ban them, not at all.). There's one thing that I found interesting between some of them.
They seem to have a thing with the Ul'dah mail moogle. They said that they would meet face-to-face there, so I don't think it's a far stretch to assume that's where they mail it out at either.
Put some form of a tracker on that mail moogle, as well as the ones in the other cities in case they catch on (yeah, they might actually move into the wilderness, but we're talking baby steps here). If it's noticed a level 1 character is sending out a lot of gil, you should be able to track both a buyer and a seller.
Same on Ragnarok, been weeks since the last time I saw a RMT tell, world is full not only to legit players but to RMTs also xD Funny.
Thinking of it, I'm sad for low populated servers :x empty/ghostly towns and housing areas AND spammed by RMT tells, no wonder why OP is becoming crazy, aw.
Yeah indeed, I hardly get any tells there, but there are TONS of army of black mage being created over there where the gill sellers are creating massive materia production to be sold in market. And SE does absolutely nothing, since technically these "bots" are not spamming any shouts nor tell...
I've given up reporting RMT tell spam. When my black-list filled and I spent many minutes just clearing it out, I decided that I was spending far too much of the time that I paid for just reporting these level 1 bots.
So now all my tells go into it's own separate tab, and I disabled my tell notification sound.
I hate the RMT. I hate what it does to the economy, I hate that some players buy their way to the top with it, and I hate the spam that the bots send to the players. But the amount of effort to report simple RMT bots is ridiculous. Judging from the number of "(deleted)" in my blacklist, and the number of times I see the same farming bots continuously farming many days after being reported, SE is making a dent, but not nearly enough of a dent.
I'm starting to wonder if SE is making money by some of these gil sellers / botters some sort of agreement where they don't ban them and they pay out a portion to SE for it. The fact that this is literally out of control and never really dealt with leads me to believe there's some underground agreements by SE to allow them to operate. I mean these people gotta buy a copy of the game, register an account and subscribe for a month just to send a tell, if SE was seriously stomping them out proactively there's no way it can be profitable for them to continue operating their business.
Why hasn't this been addressed yet zomg. There are so many different solutions which deeply reduce this problem. I personally have to gyrate between disabling tells and turning them back on because its so freaking bad.
I also don't understand why they haven't handled teleport bots yet? That's an absolutely shame their client isn't secure enough to deal with. Sigh.
I don't really see much of it on Cerberus... don't know what to tell you guys unfortunately.
Was on a few hours this morning before work on Faerie Server, it was rediculous 13 tells in 6 minutes average often from the same spammer 3 in a row. There was even one spammer that was just 345Z or some other nonsense. As I screamed profanities in game and irl about them I came to a realization. I no longer care if SE cripples communication. The only way to beat them is to cripple their communication permanently let them gather as much gil as they want I don't care it's worthless if they can't sell it just eliminate their advertisements. I shouldn't have to pay to play then view their adds constantly, so SE stop them being able to communicate stop watching for the gil source and other nonsense when it piles up they will be fairly obvious.
It comes and goes on Leviathan, sometimes its back to back (different companies though), but its not too bad. However I don't understand why they don't make it where only people on your friend's list can send you a tell. I mean a tell is also known as a whisper on many other MMOs and quite frankly the only people who whisper things in my ear are people I know...not random strangers.
Forget filters, maybe just throttle tells if you generate an unusual amount. If you are seconding 10 tells a second, maybe you aren't a real person. Maybe. Certainly not 100 tells in 10 seconds. And yeah, I get hit by the same character a lot. Every 10 minutes as they cycle through the WHOLE WORLD. Also maybe people pre-level 5 or pre-level 10 or 15 shouldn't be able to sends tells. Who knows.
Block the dollar sign.
But then I wouldn't be able to tell one of my jokes!
Quote:
a Veteran player and a new adventurer walks into the Quicksand.
The veteran turns to the new player, and says "Greetings! welcome to Eorzea!"
The new player turns to the veteran, and whispers in /tell chat:
"Buy Gold! 1000k for 2$! go to iwanttohackyouraccount.com for details!"
I'm totally for this, except the bolded part :P I've been approached by two VERY cool people with that exact same /t :P but yes..... other than that, I agree 100% I've gotten to the point where I just turned the /t chime off, because it was going off so fast, Mist started to have a whole new beat to it, with a chime going off every 3s
I receive so many that my chat log is never in a position that doesn't have a gil seller tell advert in it, and I report and do blacklisting every single one. I feel defeated and abandoned by SE. I received 5 before I could even move my character one step as I logged in this morning.
We really need to have implemented the following tools:
- Auto report spam (command or right click action)
- Separate blacklist for spam with higher limit, automatically apply reported names to this list
- The ability for players to create their own /tell filters.
- Allow players the option to receive messages only from a white list
I always play with busy status on, because:
- My friends are all in the LS i have, already.
- Jsdddf Jwwwd has too much good offers to tell me about.
- It efficiently prevents me from being trolled by people opening the "trade menu" when you teleport from MD (yeah Moogle server is a place where people still do that).
- You get rid of the ready checks during the WOD.
Only pros and no cons. Most of the community being agressive / toxic on Moogle anyways i dont worry about the importance of the /tells i miss.
Yeah this is really getting crazy and out of hand. The spam just keeps getting worse and worse, though I can't remember if I even noticed it in FFXI.
I would like to be able to make my own chat filters.
I'm sure I could do a better job of filtering this crap.
Couldn't they make it so you can't send people tells until a certain level? Like maybe 10 or 15?
I mean, it wouldn't stop it completely, but it would make it tons more difficult for them to constantly create more characters and spam us. And we wouldn't have to have friendly phrases like "hello friend" added to the chat filter.
XI didn't have as much as XIV does, however, SE did also put in a filter on XI that blocked mostly all the spam, and if people were using windower there was another filter on that. Between both of them, the RMT spam in XI was pretty much never heard. It something that they need to be doing now. Everyday I'm finding myself putting up busy mode because I've gotten tired of blocking them all and then 2 weeks later cleaning out my blacklist only to do it all over again.
I'm fairly convinced SE is just never going to fix this issue. There are no excuses... This is 2015. You can block tell spam like every other game on the market right now.
