We NEED a "Gunblade" job, a sword-wielding DPS job is long over-do...

How would you feel about a 'Mystic'/'Sorcerer' class/job? Their weapon would be something along the lines of a single-hand 'spell blade', and be able to use elemental abilities to improve their attacks (different elements would have different effects)?

I suspect we'll get a gunblade class/job when the story takes the fight to the empire. So far it fits that mythos. This could also be the fabled "hybrid" job they keep eluding to, part melee part ranged. So hopefully atleast the next expack.

A garlean job pretty much. Perharps more dependant on gadgets and armor abilities than the actual shots like the MCH. It could still be a melee job like in ff8.

This isn't a valid reason to not have a gunblade job. Pretty much EVERY job in the game it is insinuated that you are the sole custodian of that soul crystal that allows you to take up the job. Meaning you're pretty much the only one other than the rival you may or may not have in your job quests. This is why the majority of NPCs in the game don't have jobs, they have classes, even the scions.

Other players? As far as the story is concerned, they dont exist. you're the solitary warrior of light. The people you group with for dungeons and trials are just your comrades that you call upon for assistance. You're the hero, not them.

So rarity really isnt a factor.

I support this since I have been wanting some sort of DPS sword user. Also I've always wanted to be a Garlean-- *coughs* Umm.. Yes Swordy DPS.

Tell me about it! I've been wanting a Gunblade DPS Job for so long that i'm starting to feel a little worried that they might not ever implement it lol. I could literally see it happening though, bc its already in FFXIV technically.

They could also use some of the Garleans Gunblade attack moves/skills that were used in some of those 2.0 fights... I don't see why they'd have such a huge teaser for the Gunblade in 2.0 Storyline/Garlean Army/Lightnings Event, and never implement it like we're not able to use it or something except them lol. Kind of a punch in the face for the ones who truly want it to happen imo. xD

We get it, you want a gun-blade job, but you need to remember that this is an MMORPG with many traditional jobs already in the lore of the series so honestly while its a fun idea its very unlikely to come out until we visit the garleans.

Bumping the thread will not make the job come any faster if Square Enix wants a gun-blade job they'll add it in a future expansion but just remember that this new type of job has a lot of competition because there are many other jobs that have a bigger fan-base than a weapon.

I know this, but it's nice to see new Jobs in the works instead of the same old rehashed ones, over and over. lol, but i think you mistaken the real popularity with the Gunblade style, because i for one, was presently surprised to see how many people thought it would be an amazing idea to implement it within the game. Considering that it is FF-based and is in the FFXIV lore. And plus, FFXIV is lacking completely in sword wielding DPS. =)

This is actually not true - there are multiple instances in the game where it's shown there are mulitple copies of a soul crystal carried and equipped by multiple npcs at the same time (the PLD Job quests in particular show this, but also during the first SMN lvl 50 Job quest multiple SMN Soul Crystals are clearly seen). The only instance where it's stated that the player is the sole possesor of that Job would probably be WHM (and even then, what's to stop the padjal teaching the Job to others?), and to a lesser extent DRG (as so far as there being usually only one 'Azure DRG' at any one time - the fact that the player becomes one while Estinien is still around proves even in that case there can be many with that Job coexisting.)

Also you're confusing the use of a weapon type and the class that is connected to it - as I stated before gunblades already exist in the game as a non-specific weapon usually lumped into another class (GLA, MCH) so it makes a dedicated gunblade using class even more unlikely. The story also makes it clear gunblades are a rare weapon type. After all, why else do you only see it in the hands of a few elites and not the regular rank-and-file cannon-fodder grunts that make up the bulk of the Garlean Army?

That is also not true lol. All Jobs depend on their own type of weapon, skills, clothing, etc... It's the same thing with Gunblades. A Gunblade would have it's own Job name, it's own skill set, it's own type of clothing and so on. So it is just as likely as any Job that's ever been made. i love to see gunblade class
but i dont get why the need of blade DPS class
1. Ninja have the ability to reduce enemy slash resistant
2. Dragoon have the reduce pierce resistant
3. Monk reduce blunt resistant

in 1. Ninja benefit blade class, i.e. tank
in 2. Dragoon benefit Bard or may be Machinist?
in 3. Monk....

It is clear we need another blunt damage class given it dps or tank
Tank are blade class only
DPS have polearms, magic, dagger, firearms, bow and fist

we have 3 tank classes, 3 healer classes and 7 dps classes

with 8 man dungeon 2 tank:2healer:4 dps
we have 1:1:2 ratio
but we have 7 dps classes


i love to see gunblade, i want to see it since 3.0 MSQ
but since it is in Empire hand, and we have a lot of variety in DPS classes
i think the priority would not be gunblade

blunt damage really need some love, and since the next class is likely Samurai or Redmage
i think gunblade could wait, both lore wise (empire technique) and balance wise (Samurai could be dps since the Dev seem abit tired of making tank class)

Then they should just update the Monk for the blunt benefit overtime. And if you speak of Samurai, then that's a sword/slashing Job on its own, so i can most definitely see the Gunblade happening if the Samurai is going to happen. Obviously they aren't worried about Blunt damage or else they would just give the Monk improvements. They can always make up lore as to why Gunblades are implemented in the game. Have to remember that this is a video game, they can get around every problem you just wrote down without a problem lol.

Daggers used to be a Paladin/Gladiator weapon, but got re-purposed when Ninja came out, but you still see enemy NPCs with them because it's how they were made when the game came out. And personally this thread is coming off like a lot of people fanboying/fangirling over the weapon and just arguing the same points over and over about why it should be done, and not giving in depth suggestions on how it would work/why it should be done. At the least put more thought into it instead of 'lol ppl wnt gunblaed klass lol'

This is called feedback/suggestions for a reason. If you can't stand someone not agreeing with you, then don't post, as well as you having no power to say who can/can't post here. I was saying a lot of your posts felt like you were just trying to reply to everyone one on one whenever you can.


Now with that said, back on topic. We have both Gladiator and Machinst. One uses a sword and shield, the other uses a gun. While gunblades are cool by look, there's no 100% way that the combat has a 'flow' in battle that would work with other classes. Very few enemies in XIV actually use gunblades, as well as only three characters in the FF series really using gunblades. Those being Squall/Seifer from FFVIII (Their 'gunblade' just had a trigger attack with their base attack), and Lightning's 'Gun/Blade', which really was a gun that turned into a blade/visa versa, which isn't the 'traditional' gunblade we've seen.

With Garleans, it has been stated in this thread that it's not a common weapon type. With the discipline for the weapon being scarce, how are we to basically learn it? Whose to say they don't hunt down any deserters who've been trained in that combat style? If they're able to get away from them when they go awol, what's to make them want to teach us?

I disagree with your opinion. lol, I barely get on here so it is why i reply to everyone because i really don't use the Forums so i don't have many to reply back to, this is my only legit Forum i've ever created. =P Anyways, i strongly agree with the Gunblade being given an opportunity for once in a FF MMO. Because remember, this is a video game, anything can be possible.

A sword wielding DPS IS long overdue, and it's name is Samurai not Gunblade specialist :P

And just because anything is possible, doesn't mean everything should be possible. There's very delicate balancing, as well as working the whole quest line of a new class into the game. It's why it takes them so long to just come out with less than a handful of classes at a time. 'why should they have skill A instead of ability B' 'What class(es) would they work best with' 'Would this class be upclose or at a distance, or a class that has to constantly move in and out of the battlefield'. There are a LOT of questions that need to be asked when looking at new classes, and even when they have the basic structure of the class, they still need to tweak it again and again, and even more so after said class(es) have been introduced.

I'm asking all of this stuff because I've seen how individual classes being added to other games have ruined the gameplay greatly due to how rushed they were/ect, just because the playerbase thought it was 'cool' to add.

(Also this is a thread, as in an individual post you made in the suggestions/feedback to get people to post on, a forum is where a bunch of these threads exist)

Yoshi P himself said that he would see SAM more as a DPS than a tank. Plus we already have two sword weilding tanks, and no sword wielding DPS, making it more likely. And finally, looking at the way that DRK works, you can tell that early in the development cycle you could tell that it was originally supposed to be SAM, and if they made SAM a tank, they would need to work very hard to differentiate it from DRK. So DPS seems far more likely.

Nothing is a must honestly.. But i would definitely like to see something new instead of the same rehashed stuff over and over. Maybe when we venture into Garlean territory it'll become an idea.

I wouldn't mind seeing something of this class become playable or even Squall's outfit with his weapon as a glamour.

I think they eventually would. We did get a mechanic after all though I would like dual wielding guns :P

Thankfully Squalls outfit from Dissidia will become a Veteran Rank Reward for 1,440 days subscribed or something?! So yeah, pretty stoked about that! =)

Personally, far as Gunblades go, if nothing else, I want a glamour of Regula's Greatsword for Dark Knights.

with a gun-using class already in-game (Mechanist) I can't see them adding it as a new class, I however could see them added a melee-mode as MCH's Stance-dance option in a new expantion (probably not in 4.0 but maybe 5.0) thou that would just make them a glorified Lightning from FF13 (will take what I can get at that point)

I'm not a game designer. I don't understand the ins and outs of balancing a class, especially in an MMO typed setting. I do not get paid to be so, and I have not had the opportunity to receive any training.

Does this make my desire as a consumer to have a feature in a product I enjoy invalid? I don't think it does.

Just because I, or others, cannot give the specifics on how a gunblade class would work and fit into the delicate balance of the classes we have does not mean that I, or others, cannot wish for a gunblade class to be in the game.

(sorry if it's already mentioned) This would make so much sense with the final loyalty reward being Squall's outfit! Imagine all the Squall look-a-likes running about though :|

Jokes aside, i think actual Gunblades would be a great addition to the game considering it's actually apart of the FF Lore. Since FF11 didn't have them, why not FF14... Something new for a change.

While I agree we need a sword-wielding DPS job, I personally always hated the gunblade. I know many are big fans of it, and it's the fans that make this thing go 'round, so I definitely do not oppose seeing them in this game. You just won't catch me using one :p
