Why would he level a DPS job to farm for soldiery? For longer queue times? That really doesn't make any sense to me. Most of OP's problems can be solved immediately by other people not being utter dicks. Of course, we all know that's not really going to happen, so he may have to endure a bit longer while he gears up. I know the first thing I do when I queue up as a DPS is to look at the tank. If the tank is significantly less geared than me, I really try not to take aggro, but ultimately I also have to prepare myself for the possibility that despite my best efforts I may end up tanking some of the mobs. I have defensive skills and I'm not afraid to use them. Luckily, I often queue with a healer friend when I'm on a DPS job (or vice versa, I go healer when a friend is on a DPS job) so we communicate and help the tank out as best we can. There's no reason to tear down a newer player for being unable to hold hate due to simply being less geared than yourself. It's shameful.
@OP - ST is a really good suggestion. You'll have to get through CT to unlock it, though. In both cases, there are other tanks that can handle the heavy lifting so the fact that you're undergeared shouldn't be a problem at all. Get that left side geared up (so you can take more hits), and get your weapon upgraded as well (so you can hold more hate). You might think about one of the soldiery weapons until you can work more on your relic. Don't take it to heart when people tear you down. It's their problem, not yours. As long as you're doing everything to the best of your ability, just keep doing what you're doing. Let people know you're new. A lot of us are more than willing to work with you and make the experience good instead of completely miserable.
