Ohhh will the cards work like the system in Baten Kaitos? That would be cool.

I wonder if we can activate our trap card
Firstly: Called it. Ever since I climbed the that observation tower upon arriving in Coerthas, I've said "Ishgard will have an Astrologist as a caster". Granted I also said it would be a Class with Time Mage as a Job, but you win some you lose some. Now just give me Fencer/Red Mage.
Secondly: Kinda disappointed. Wanted a Dancer style healer that uses skills to heal rather than magic. :(
Finally: If I ever die and you're healing on Astrologist, I'll be telling you to believe in the heart of the cards better.
Ohhhh..."Exodia....Obliterate!!!!!"
Heh, got two out of three. Surprised.
It's time to D-D-D-D DUEL!
YU-GI-errr....Astrologist!
Well ****. I was all gungho on going DRK at launch and here they go and make this sexy healing class.
I hope they keep 'astrologian'. Sounds very eorzean.
I think I know what my new main will be :D
Does that mean Astrologian is a type of Gypsy? I mean fortune telling does involve Astrology, Astromancy, Cartomancy (card reading), and Tarot (can be used in Cartomancy instead of playing cards), or even a crystal ball. So assuming Astrologist is using a deck of cards...

Fluid Aura into Protect.....
Exodia....Obliterate!!!!!
So...speculation on what each card represents?
I assume that the tarot card ability is a raid-wide/party-wide effect; celestial/star magic is commonly all-encomposing, so the concept of, say, 'divination' of the cards will probably be AoE.
Balance - recovers HP of party to an equal percentage (the concept of balancing - the colour of blood being red)
Ewer - removes all negative status ailments (Water is aligned with Esuna/Leech - blue for the element of water)
Bole - HP regen over time and vulnerability down (the trunk of a tree - tree of life etc. - brown for nature and wood)
Spear - increases physical melee attack potency (spears are melee weapons - light blue, of the Ice element, for which Halone governs)
Arrow - increases physical ranged attack potency (bows are ranged weapons - green associated with woods, typical of bow wielders -coughgridania-)
Spire - increases magical attack potency (most mages live in towers or 'spires' - the bearded man (common depiction of a wise magus) is also present - purple associated with BLMs and arcane)
The Astrologian video also shows her using a Water element spell with a cast time of 3 seconds. There are a lot of speculation points I can make about that one cast.
- The only healer/support skills with a 3 second cast are Protect and Stoneskin, which are both of the Earth element. But it is not a 'support'/'buff' skill as;
- The aura is a healing/purifying aura. Heals and Esuna/Leech have the aura shown in the video, whereas buffing spells such as Protect have orbs surrounding the caster.
- The only known/speculated water-aligned skills are Esuna, Leech, Raise, Resurrection, Embrace and Whispering Dawn. Four are support aligned spells, whereas two are direct healing spells. However;
- The moment of effect of the spell produces the same sound effect as Physick and Cure. Yes, the two have the same sound effect, with a different animation however. This spell of the Astrologians has an obvious different animation with the stars in the afterglow, kind of similar to Adloquium with the shield effect
My final verdict? It is a healing spell with an additional effect attached to it, which may differ depending on the tarot card. Or it is a straight additional effect such a regen, similar to 1.0's Sacrifice.
Fine.. We accept..

I'll go with it..I really don't feel like waiting 20 years to get in a queue as a DPS again..
/em makes grabby hands at.
More healery fun!
Seriously, though, can we get actual art cards of those cards, please?
melee astrologian ftw. chop all the things...
would actually be cool if it was like Gambit :)
Man....I was all set to be mad that RDM wasn't included in this expansion but....I can't even be mad cuz this looks too dope. I want to start leveling this yesterday.
I love card based characters, reminds me of the Type:0 character. I am hyped for this expansion.

THE DREAM.
I really just want that hat.
who am I kidding. I can't wait to play this.
I can't be more excited than I am now. That class! That dress!
I can only hope the male outfit will be just as badass.
I have a deep love for all healing classes, but this looks especially exciting! I absolutely love the look of the... weapon, astrolabe, thingy...?
What I'm most interested in though is what this new healer is going to bring to the table that makes them different. Either way it's going to be the first new job I level when the expansion rolls in.
I'd say it lies in the variable of their cards and reacting to the card in hand rather than follow a set pattern.
You can kinda think of it like Ninjutsu except with jutsu it's Huton for att speed, suiton for trick attack, raiton for single target, kaiton for AOe and doton for ground aoe DoT.
I imagine in Astrologist case they will be more reactive based on the card they draw, maybe in the sense that before you perform an action you draw a card and that card will effect 4-7 abilities so say you have the following You want to use cure but you want to use a stronger cure so you hope to get either the water card or the wind card however you draw the ice card. The ice card however combos well with regen allowing you to use a more potent regen when casting the next regen spell so rather than cure with the ice card you use regen and then maybe top it off with cure rather than use another card to see if you can empower your cure.
Basically I think the order of events will be you know your card before you act rather than you act and your card is revealed since then it would just be a game of chance and basically from that card you have you act in the most efficient way for combat or decide to use x ability if it's needed.
Hope the localization team make quest names like
"The Heart of the Cards" and "Reaching Out to the Truth"
That last one could totally be the final quest for its AF chest. xD
I'll eventually try this out. It looks cool. xD
So the weapon is more of an astrolabe than the Arcanists'?
I mean, the dev team can get creative (when they want to/have to), but... Arcanist's icon is pretty much an astrolabe.
Possible confusion?
(Yes, yes I know they can do a card(s) or something, but it feels weird).
It's Time ! To Duel !

Trust the heart of your Deck !
The Astrologist looks fantastic! Style wise, it is probably the best job-related gear I have seen in the game yet (That hat... *drool*) and it will be great to have a new healer to level.
