The question becomes, though: why did they add the restriction in the first place? As I said, blocking people from altering or using amenities makes sense, but this is the first i've seen where an FC house/guild hall type system can actually block its own members from even accessing it. It just strikes me as a pointless restriction.

another reason why I would of preferred private rooms and FC housing to be completely separate.

Y'know... it's a really good question... why DO we have the option to restrict housing access within the FC? :/ Restricting decorating and gardening I get (in larger FCs it gets chaotic), but not access itself.

That helps FCs as ours, that dedicated so much time and effort to get the house, being able to ask the new members to give a little contribute to our chest before get house access rights. Who wants join us just to leech the perks and give nothing in exchange, will just not be able to get housing access.

Umh, that sounds horrible tbh. I wouldn't mind to give something if asked. But being forced to? Leaves a bitter aftertaste....no thanks.

It's just ACCESS. The perks are, what, a summoning bell and crafting bonus to use while leveling (if you have the tables)? :/ Restrict nifty decorating privileges, then.

I'm kinda in agreement with this. :/ Even when we were scrambling to get the house we wanted, I never went beyond only encouraging everyone to donate. And yeah, some folks gave WAY more than others. Some gave nothing. But everyone has at least given some of their time to the FC and that's plenty. ^^



The ONLY problem I can see stemming from taking away access restriction is ending up with someone who gets a room and then proceeds to troll the FC. IIRC, you can't kick someone with a room. But there have been enough stories of members earning the trust of the FC and THEN betraying it that I doubt housing access would affect this in any way. ><

Can't leave FC: "Halp! I have been virtually kidnapped!"
Boss kills you: "Halp! I've been virtually killed!"
Someone sits on your head after you die "Halp! I've been sexually molested!"

you can just leave the FC and collect your furnishings from an npc in the ward cant recall which one off hand ... maybe locking all members out of fc creates some serious bug never had members locked out before thats fck'd up definitely report him for harassment

No you can't, that feature was only added for the case of discharging members that have a personal room.

Permission to build a private room is granted separately. Allowing entry level members the ability to walk inside the house vs simply stand outside in the yard might make then feel like an actual part of the FC and more interested in contributing.

You do know that private rooms cost 300,000 gil, right? It's not like you just join the FC and automatically get one, you have to be able to afford it. :B
And what kind of perks do you get from the private rooms? They are purely visual, serving no purpose other then being able to decorate it, which cost even more money and/or time (if you are crafting the furniture).

There might be reasons, but "you're basically not considered a part of our FC until you pay us" is not a good one.

Not to defend it, because I think it's a terrible and alienating idea to bar members from entering your FC house until they've reached a certain rank, but there ARE perks inside a FC house that "leeches" could theoretically abuse. The vendors you can put there are awesome, and I could easily see a crafter joining a FC SOLELY for the purpose of accessing their vendor.

Of course no matter how antisocial the leech, the very act of crafting contributes company points so it's not really feasible to be a TOTAL leech. Also, having someone access the vendor doesn't actually cost the FC members anything.

A way people COULD cost an FC actual money is joining them in order to eat their food furnishings. I find it hilarious, though, to contemplate anyone being paranoid enough to believe someone would actually join a FC to eat their furnishings. XD If it did happen, I'd imagine it would be an actual targeted attack against the FC; someone from outside the FC who has a grudge or something... They fool someone into inviting them to the FC, and then they DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! THEY DRINK IT UP!

But... you got the house when you paid for the house. It costs you nothing to add give these people access. An FC shouldn't be some kind of money-making scheme.

Didn't say I agreed with it, just said I have seen it and to answer your question no. But people joined them, was right when housing came out though.

Not to say that it's a great idea, and our FC certainly doesn't do it, but another - possibly more reasonable - use of the function would be for trial members. Like if you are a company that accepts a lot of people, but want to make sure they will fit in with the group before actually "admitting" them. Just fully restrict them from the FC functions in general (including housing) basically turns the FC into a glorified Linkshell. I suppose you could always just have a Linkshell for testing new members, but having an entry rank would probably be easier. Hard to justify though.

How to solve the problem: The door can't be locked to FC members, but access to amenities can. Other games, including EQ2 which uses a very similar housing system (although theirs is entirely instanced and the guild (FC) houses are much, much MUCH larger) allow you to lock the use of amenities without locking access. Of course the game also allows you to relinquish a house and just have the contents packed into a moving crate and placed in your next house soooo yeah.

My company of 100 or so people all have housing access. The FC house was paid for, mostly, by only two members with small contributions from others along the way. These smaller contributors which were never even asked to do it. It was more that they noticed a 10+ million in the FC chest and they asked what it was for. When they were told that we were saving for a house, many just tossed in what they could without a second thought.
It's not like we're paying a mortgage on it and need to keep up our monthly payments else it's repossessed. It's bought and paid for, and we're not living in a world of debt. There'd be no reason for either of those, or the FC as a whole, to ask for payments on something that's already done. Even a "leeching" user still usually contributes company seals here and there.
