I think you may be right there.
For some ppl even ps4 customers but of course not all, the cpu bottlenecks not the gpu and they get fps lag because of the sheer number of players logged into a give zone. Or running an instance. Of course this for some reason does not affect all players but for those it does it can be horrible to be hostage to this kind of lag. I am kinda stuck till next spring where I will finally update my old lga775 pinout cpu. Till then for me it and my ps4 will bottleneck. The new Assassin's Creed Unity is locked at 900p because the dev said cpu bottleneck at 1080p 60fps would kill the user experience with so much characters on screen at once. And they were specifically referring to ps4 and xbox1 not the pc. For me personally it's always been the number of players in a zone when playing mmos that effects me the most. Not the pretty shiny colors or animations.
People in the US have this belief that anyone who doesn't work 168 hours a week is a "freeloader" and doesn't deserve to exist. It's sad that so much rage is focused on the very people we were instructed to help and protect so many centuries ago. Anyroad, that's another discussion for a different day,I think.
I don't see anything wrong with offering the free weekends, but I agree that SE needs to do something about server load. Whether that means opening up new ones and offering free server transfers off of high pop servers or increasing capacity\streamlining\upgrading the hamsters I don't know, but they need to do SOMETHING. So many people report lag and disconnects that it can't be individual people and their routers\isps\etc. We have cisco techs having issues with ONLY this game. They need to do something about it.
SE please schedule a free login day whenever op does coil, thanks
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I find it really odd that even with my 3 Mbps rural connection (over 600km to nearest city), that I experience none of this lag. The most I see is occasional disconnects but that's likely an issue with my ISP.
I know quite a few people who rave about WTFast and say it reduces their lag boatloads, but I've never had enough lag to make me consider using it myself.
On the actual topic, I really think they should continue the free login weekends. A little bit of lag that seems to be resolved using a VPN is worth it in order to bring players back to the game. A lot of the time people who quit are wondering whether the game is worth coming back to or if something they disliked has been resolved, it gives them a chance to come back and see if they like the changes. I'm sure it has swayed a couple of people back to the game who were considering it and weren't sure if the sub was worth it or not.
The free login weekend is the reason I resubbed. I was really impressed with how much content they added since I played last.
I didn't experience any lag all weekend and there was a que on Balmung. I am not sure why some had lag.
A little bit of latency is a small price to pay for a strong MMO community, these free login weekends might convince some pretty cool people who set the game aside to come back.
I'd rather have more players coming back to the game due to the free weekends than you and your seven friends getting 2 extra days of coil practice. I'm a paying customer, so SE listen to me!! I'm the only one that matters!!!! (AmIright OP? that's the right attitude for any paying customer, even those that disagree with you?) It's good for the community which hopefully enough others understand so that this ridiculous topic can be completely ignored. I fully support free log in weekends :\
I came back to the game and re-subbed thanks to one of these Free Login Weekends. Which is the whole point of them, in case you didn't know. So don't tell me about "paying customers are being disadvantaged by freeloaders."
I wish they would have free login weekends more often, I made over 1000 soldiery tomes within a couple of hours just by spamming HM primals like Levi and Ramuh due to those new player bonuses. :D
Hmm, almost like having more active players in-game was.... a good thing? But I guess more players being able to enjoy the game is of no concern to OP and their pre-made Coil-farming static. Sorry SE, you'll have to stop the free weekend promotions of your product, OP doesn't like it.
OP
you don't understand why the latency occurs at all, do you?
Hint: Its not the ffxiv servers being overloaded: its intermediary route congestion.
No, and yes.
Not an issue with squares servers, so everyone who doesn't have to traverse bad/congested links has no problem.
That said . . . the game uses very little server=client communication, and the congestion issues are caused more by an increase in heavy bandwidth users.
