Problem solved?

I've been noticing plants going purple much sooner than in the past recently as well. Under 24 hours sooner, which is why there is reasonable concern for some folk about this long maintenance.
This isn't a confusion of fertilizing and tending in my case. I know the difference, yet I can water my plants regularly at 4pm, then have people the next day messaging me at noon or so asking why our plants are purple/dying.
Was also curious about this.
I tended plants at 1am last night before bed, ready for fan fest and they were all purple 23 hours later, 2nd time pirple now so if the maintenance doesn't freeze status I'll loose them on the 3rd purple, would really like confirmation here
Fertilizing does not count as tending. I have never seen a plant turn purple before 24 hours. Some people prob assume fertilizing counts when it doesn't.
Just mentioning, it looks like they made a post about this on the Japanese forums saying that gardens will continue to grow during maintenance. Don't take my word for it though; I don't read Japanese.

Good evening. Because even during server maintenance growth of crops not stop, although there is likely to wither during maintenance, all of the crops that exist at the moment, is to be able to withstand more than a day from the given water have. You're sorry for any inconvenience for a long time of maintenance, but if you are doing the cultivation, and from as much as possible given the water in front of the maintenance will ask that you will be able to log out.
Looks like the people in that thread weren't happy about the response.
I hope they take notes and fix the system so they can freeze plants during maintenances, and I hope no one here loses their plants, GMs wont be able to recover them due to some silly rules.
If I'm online after maint is over I'll try to save the ones in my ward / few other wards, it would be good if everyone who is able to, take a few mins of their time and help their neighbors.
Just ran around The Goblet Ward 5 on my server and watered all my neighbors plants XD
Hopefully it will tie them over
Yeah I ran around to check on my neighbor's gardens before the servers went down. Unfortunately the notice that the maintenance would be 24 hours wasn't posted until the 22nd at which point I had already planted onions. I don't mind the longer than normal maintenance, but I wish they had given us more notice.
Well.. I've been growing thavnairian onions for quite a while now. I keep a log of what, when, where, and who, planted, tended, fertilized, and harvested, and I can read... So, yes, I'm sure. Also, others in the FC have confirmed it. Like I said, it has happened more than once. We are not beginners.
One thing nobody has yet mentioned in any of the "will-the-plants-die?!" threads here is - what about those which will become ready to harverst shortly after the maintenance starts - will they survive 25+ hours?? I was lucky enough to harvest half of one garden just before maintenance started so that's a bit of relieve but still have about 6 - 8 valuable plants which are about to be ready in couple of hours :( Also - unlike plants in growing progress the ready ones can't be tended anymore so nobody without right access to gather them can help you to save them by only tending them!
I think corps like Glazenut or Thavnairian Onion die without receiving care at least every 24 hours (pretty sure they turn purple well under 24 hours, and at dies about 24 hours +-) and according to the official response on the japanese thread, corps don't stop growing during maintenance, i.e. your high level corp will die no matter what you do... so be prepared for the worst.
if there's an outcry about this after maintenance *maybe* SE will do something to compensate
Very interested as well. Tended @3:30 am and unable to tend again till tomorrow's 9:00am if servers up.
wtf really? Man that's so bogus, RIP my thav onions. T_______T
I tended 1 min before maintanance, I for see them all dieing when I log in as soon as it's back up
Tended my own and my FC's gardens 5 hrs before Maintenance was to begin. It was 10 PM Eastern, I simply cannot stay up to 3 a.m. to last minute tend e-plants. Will log in as soon as they let us. I didn't have anything important growing (almonds/sylkis), but I don't want to miss out on my intercross seeds. :/
And BTW wft on answering the JP thread but not ours. Google translation makes NO sense.

I watered mine around 11pm central, though I think quite a few were a couple hours away from being ready for harvest. I'm expecting the worst for that bunch :(
I am definitely screwed. I was trying to crossbreed some plants to get some thav onion seeds, but couldn't play over the weekend. I doubt anyone in my FC watered them, since no one else really cares about gardening in my FC. They will definitely be dead tomorrow.
I probably just lost 16 krakka seeds since I failed to water them yesterday due to being sick and not being able to do it today probably has killed them.
Another factor which nobody so far counted in is that not everyone will manage to download and install patch before the servers will go live or to login right away so despite the fairly long time the plants should survive without tending many will be streching this to (or even) beyond the limits ...
Since crops and other elements do not stop during maintenance times, there is a possibility that they will wither, but watering your plants will allow them to last for over a day without further care.
Goodbye everyone's onions...
tending... since we don't water when it rains and pull weeds instead :p
full day is 24 hours so ur basicly say everyone will loes there plants by the time they log on even if they watered the plants 20 seconds before the game gone down the maitances is 25 hours you realize that has caused everyones plants to die right?
i fail to understand why not stop the crops and other elemental timers when people cant get on all timers should completely come to a stop for maitance if its cuz the limits on tombstones for the weekly or not
um heres the thing wavy i know this but the game is coming up pretty late or early for alot of ppl for me it comes up at 1am so by the time i can log on and probely others plants are dead ;p
but thats not what i dont get wavy its the thing that timers keep going when the game is down for maintenance what are the npcs getting drunk and partying in the advanture guilds while the game is down time should completely halt since no one can get on
Sadly, gardeners should have planned for this being a possibility in advance.
I feel bad for the inexperienced gardeners, or people who planted expensive crops too soon before the patch. I had 8 thav onions down in a gardening patch, fertilizing them as often as I could to get them up in time (which I did).
I really wish the whole "clock still ticking" thing would have been confirmed a lot sooner than after the servers went down.
Yah this super-extended maintenance has demonstrated that the tend timer is too short. When there were only FC houses you could make the justification that there should be SOMEONE around in the FC who could help tend when the main gardeners were away. With personal housing, the solo individual can only look out for themselves if they want to keep an active garden, and individuals may not be able to consistently log in once a day or be able to stay up until midnight to last-minute tend, or wake up post 1am to save their wilting plants. Or hire someone to tend them I suppose.
It would be nice if the tending timer was increased to 48 hours before withering, and somewhat unrelated, it would be nice if fertilizing the plants automatically tended them as well.
I fertilized and watered my onions and other plants before patch but there's been days where like 4 hours after fertilizing and watering them they go purple cloud mode... so yea >< I have a feeling i just lost the garden lol..
What if they screw up with the patch and maintenance stuff and ALL CROPS die because they took longer than 25h to put the servers back up?
Not counting that some ppl with not-so-good internet connections may require 3 or 4 hours to just download the patch, which still isn't up after over 20 hours the servers have been shut down...
After you download the 3-4GB patch, you may get blessed with login servers congestion and it may take even more hours till you login.
By this time they will start emergency maintenance because that happens after ALL major patches and this one is even bigger.
They really dropped the ball on gardeners for this patch.
I'm glad for the first time in my life that i was feeling lazy this last week and didn't plant anything on the garden. >.<
Thank you SquareEnix for making my Procrastination level up =DD
I imagine chocobo fruit since it grows fast and if you didn't tend the day before servers went down are the only ones that need to worry. most plants are 4 or more days to grow and wont die until being ignored 48 hours. I'm sure there will be dead plants and there will be threads complaining, but most of us I think should be just fine.
sigh... every plant turned into purple already make me feel sad upon logon. ^^;
btw some ppl said plant only can have max. 3times of "purple" condition, is that true?
