The fact that the EU team just said that the free stream wont include the reveals kinda makes it less fan oriented and more money grabbing.

First, lets see which quality we will get...
I hope the cheap price will not result in network issues!
Then don't buy it, and wait to find out the details on reddit or something.
Is it a cash grab? Obviously. They didn't have to do anything at all and everyone that didn't make it to the fanfest would have to sit in the dark and wait for news from the attendees. In past conventions you didn't even have a free stream at all. Now you have a free stream, and if you want that extra stuff you have a pay stream with some extra goodies. It's more revenue from them and a way to allow their dedicated players to still get in on an in game goody and to see a small part of what they missed since there weren't any tickets left to the show.
You should be so lucky to have a stream at all. People are paying a lot of money to be there and all you have to do is drop 20 to watch all the important stuff. Deal with it. No one here is a victim. Watch the free stream if it's such a big deal to you.
Stating the opinion that this is overpriced is not "stressing over 20 dollars." I don't think this is worth the price, so I am simply not going to purchase it. One of the easiest decisions I've ever made. No stress involved here!
If people are "stressing" or upset about it (I don't think they really are), it could be because this purchase sets a bad precedent. Too many games want to have their cake and eat it too: charging a retail price plus subscription to play, but also offering exclusive items and perks gated behind microtransactions (though there is nothing "micro" about $20, it's even more than a month's sub). Today it's $20 for a moogle outfit and an HD setting on some video. Tomorrow, who knows what else will be locked behind a pay wall. They will continue to test the waters and see what they can get away with. As customers, it is our privilege to express our opinion that we are not interested in game information and items being restricted unless we pay more on top of the regular subscription cost.
In-game costumes for a subscription-based MMORPG usually do not cost money at all. We don't typically pay to view game trailers, previews, and other promotional videos either.
Finding an even bigger rip-off does not make this one "cheap."
Again, people do not seem to get it -- being unimpressed at the $20 price tag for such little value does not equate to not having the money. Just because someone can theoretically afford something does not make it a good purchase.
And like you said, all the info will be leaked almost immediately -- so that just makes this purchase all the more pointless.
Well, of course it is money grabbing. It's one thing to offer an exclusive in-game costume as an incentive for dedicated fans who choose to come to their event. It's quite another to just sell costumes and promotional information for cash.
I am confused as to why I am seeing so many posts justifying whether or not they are going to buy it.
A. Buy it
B Don't Buy it
(Circle one) (No note writing on the side)
Costumers debating on what the price for a product should be... or what it should be really called: I'd love to buy it but can't afford it.
Like it's been said here: A) If you feel it's too expensive or don't have the money, don't buy it. If many people think like you and skip on purchasing they'll feel it and will make them reassess their pricing for their next event. B) Buy it and enjoy your stream.
20 dollars for a load of hours of information and stuff about the product you like is a steal compared to the shitty movies that Hollywood is spitting out nowadays that you pay 15 dollars for 1:30hrs, for example.
uhhh..uhhhh..... I... I CHOOSE>...... *tears paper and runs away* DONT MAKE ME CHOOOOSSSEEE ;A;
to go with the topic as i said before $20 is a fraction of the cost of it and your getting archived footage as well as the same reveals as attendants if you don't think its worth it reddit will spam itself with all the reveals anyway.
I spent the last four months (or round about) shelling out money to go to fanfest, and just found out I could have had the same experience for 1/100th of the price. Who should really be complaining?

This is opinion, not fact. I find it amazing value. $20.00 for 2 days worth of constant entertainment? Hell, I'll make it a measly 40 and order in a couple pizzas and some wings from Pizza hut too. regardless if "it'll just be leaked anyways" or not, the value is watching the interviews, seeing the content itself, getting the costume. I value that, personally at far more than a paltry 20 bucks. I was honestly expecting it to have been 40-45 dollar price range, and had that much set aside for it.
This Fan Fest is for the fans. Making them pay for a stream that's for the fans of the game just doesn't sit well with me. Yes in Las Vegas, there should be a charge for all the " Actual Entertainment" SE is Providing the attendees. Everyone that is not attending the actual event , are just watching it.. not consuming any of entertainment physically at Las Vegas. All we are doing is watching. I don't know, like one person said before "Value of something is different from person to person". So if you feel 20 bucks is justified then awesome. I just don't see how a company can charge people at home watching something that is made for the fans.
That is how I personally feel.
So with that logic anything we watch at home should not have any cost associated with it? lol smh The only reason you don't pay to watch basic television (if in the US, not sure about the rest of the World) is the fact that you are inundated with commercial and ads which pay for that programming.
I need to stop posting here, I'm not sure if I'm being trolled or talking to a block of wood anymore.
You already paid for the game via the sub yes, but that only gets you access to the sub. A separate extraneous event is completely different. The free stream fits what you're talking about anyway. People just want to complain even though there is a perfectly good free option.
You're missing one part so that you don't have to spend money. Deal with it. If you care that much pay for it. It's really just that simple. You aren't going to get it for free and complaining like you're entitled to it won't win any people over. You didn't get a ticket to the fanfest so you aren't entitled to anything. You're lucky you get anything at all. So ungrateful.
I remember the FFXI fanfest days. People in the crowd streaming from laptops they personally brought was your only option and people were happy to get even that much. Now people complain that their free stream isn't good enough.
I am only stating how I feel, Nothing that deal with entitlement, because in the end SE is the one that makes the call on those sort of things, so of course I will "deal with it". I am only complaining to give my feedback to them, not to really debate on whether this is an "entitlement issue" or not.
In the end, I'll get all the information within 1-5 hours of the announcement anyways.
It's a matter of paying for the experience of it. That's really the way you SHOULD be looking at it. Some people just can't stand SD when HD is an option. It's like watching a concert streamed live versus being there in person. I actually don't like to be among a crowd, so I'll pay for a streamed service (as long as the cost is reasonable... if it were a $100 ticket for the show or $30 for HD streamed service with access to little bonus stuff sort of thing). You're right in that the information will be made available immediately after, which is why they throw in little bonuses like the mog outfit for the people who wish the experience the event but can't be there in-person. They know this.
It's a question of whether or not it's worth it for you, the individual. If it's not, then it's not. Given the cost that you pay monthly, a one-time optional charge of around that price is NOT unreasonable of a business to ask for. The fact that a bulk of it is still free to watch in SD is reason enough to just be happy about it, as the main reason viewers would be tuning in is for the LL afterall. Things like the opening/closing ceremony and keynote is NOT why the majority of people will be watching the stream. Would a lot of them choose to watch it for free? Of course. Is that the main reason they're tuning in? Most likely not.
Meh. I'll pay the $20 just for the moogle suit that I'll never use in game and to have access to the hd stream archive if im unable to watch it live. $20 isnt a big deal. But with that said I already plan on being disappointed. With 3 of theses fan fests and NA being the 1st one. We are going to get the shaft as far as info releases go. NA will probably be nothing more than talk about 2.4 and a pic of the title for the expansion with some artwork and thats it. Im sure theres a reason the JP fan fest is last and that will be the one with all the big expansion info. Likely without an english translation as usual. EU fan fest will probably focus on 2.5.
I'm still a bit on the fence. Not a huge fan of the Moogle Suit and the reveals are probably going to be live tweeted to death within 2 mins of their announcement w/ SE releasing official video/images/press releases the day after. Meh I may just spend the cash on another retainer and pig out with a pizza for the SD stream. The perks this go round are not that appealing for me. SE will probably get the $20 bucks somewhere down the line if they release a Collector's edition of the expansion.
You sure? Because the last 2 MMOs I played before this, LOTRO and TSW, I had subscriptions to both and there were lots of cosmetic items gated behind the cash shop.
ESO, which I played briefly, also had a horse in the cash shop from day 1 and the Imperial race was, effectively, behind a paywall.
So it's far from unique and this HD Stream package is, to my mind, one of the less insidious ways go about it.
WoW, Lotro, ESO would all like a word with you.
Edit: Add TSW to the list as mentioned by SgtPepperUK.
The value is entirely subjective and a matter of opinion. I'm going to be going the same as Ilitsa and get some Pizza Hut while watching this with my brother who also plays this game . I hope you don't go to the theater with that opinion of yours though because that would be one heck of a hypocritical stance.
Not worth it to me. I'll gladly keep my $20 and read/watch everything after the event ends. And you can keep that ugly moogle suit, too.
JS
TSW and LOTRO aren't subscription based MMOs
They're BTP/FTP with an optional sub
$20 isn't that bad and there is a SD option for people who don't want to pay. The competition does their stream for $40 with no free option.
i found the price a bit too much, if it was more stuff why not, but for one ingame suit and some hd stuff 20 bucks is too much. it's a matter of what is really exclusive, like said by people before, you can be sure that this soo much premium will be available later on youtube and all the info will be out quite fast on the net. then this 20 dollars are only there for give you a ingame suit and the right to be the first to see it.... errr... sorry but it's too much for what it is.
about the eshop and cosmetic stuff i'm sorry but i'm against it... we already paying a sub every month explain me why content must be gated behind eshop (even cosmetic stuff) i can understand for stuff like change of name or race stuff... but outside this is a no go! we are all paying a subs for get acces to the same game! when some people can get more stuff because they are can spend more cash in a eshop we are not anymore in a sub game! we don't pay the same game anymore and i'm against it!
Question for anyone that has subbed how do you get the moogle outfit code?
Do they email it to you ?
Remember, mog suit itself won't be available until after the last Fan Fest (Dec. 21st)

I know that you don't get the actual item until Dec but you should get the code right away I didn't get a code yet does it take awhile?
edit: just got the code looks like it takes like 20 min to show up.
Have you ever checked the blizzcon stream price?
That doesn't mean our feedback to them doesn't matter. All feedback is welcomed, if there is something I or a " few other people" don't like we have the right to express it. Of course we don't expect SE to cater to us, nor we want them to change their minds. If it stays the same we will just deal with it, If it changes that only means our feedback was taken to heart. Simple as that.
PS: SE keep doing what your doing, we are just simply giving our feedback :).
