Fanfest Premium livestream

In the end they did certainly talk it up big that you needed to buy their tickets and be present at the event in person to receive this item. They can word it and play it all they like but this just shows that they are only going for the biggest cash grab they can get with little to no care about their fans. Is this illegal? possibly... there could be a case on false advertising based on the route they went about it based on misleading or providing unclear or convoluted advertising in order to push sales on a commodity (especially since their USA office is based on california where these laws are rather strict) though I doubt anyone will ever care enough to do it. In the end they dont care about their reputation or the fans they care about the money and thats all this is about. This entire thing could have been avoided had they stated clearly that this was going to be available from the start but then there would be the risk of tickets not selling out or their VIP program not doing nearly as well and that means less money for them. Way to cash grab SE hope your livestream fails due to technical and you are forced to refund all the purchasers for failure to provide service :)

MilleFeuille, we both disagree and I don't think neither one of us is budging. With that said, I really hope the Fan Fest turns out good enough to make the experience up to now worth it for me.

Well, they are a business, I kind of expect them to do things in order to get money. That's their main goal. Especially since they're testing new waters with this Fan Festival. It's not something that the FF14 team has done before, so they are basically just winging it here. Though I'm sure they would have sold out anyway.

That being said, there are a lot of factors that we really don't know about. It could be that they didn't expect to be able to make a live stream. That involves a lot of IT infrastructure that the Rio may or may not have already had in place, or it might have involved negotiating a change of contract with the Rio to set it up. There could also have been an issue with finding a site to host the premium stream. We will probably never know why it took them this long to announce it.

Regardless of the reasoning the whole thing could still be viable for a case of false advertisement I do feel it was a waste of what is atm $2800 for hotel and airfare $400 for 2 VIP tickets $180 to renew my passport and whatever luggage fees I get charged at the airport not counting food or transport while there for the same perks minus a T-shirt (but is that really worth $3350+) for what will probably cost $30-60, I agree that a livestream is a fine idea for something like the liveletter or the lore panel and such but when its the entire coverage plus the in game item thats just not really fair to announce AFTER the fact.

If this was a fan fest perma exclusive, they would have announced it long ago.
I assume this rumor is true and fan fest people will get to fight him first and he will be added in 2.4,2.45, or 2.5. I doubt we will get rewards from him thought, but can possible just learn mechanics and stuff.

At this point there is no chance anything special for fan fest attendees other than the experience of being there even though many have shelled out couple grand for being there.

A unique tattoo for the event would be cool to have for people who attended the event in person. Similar to what they gave Legacy players.

Still no Price listed for the Live stream....way to cut it until the last minute. Why does it feel like SE does everything a tiny bit shady and underhanded. The live stream details should have been announced and prices listed at the time of the actual live ticket sales. Blizzard always updates the details at the same time and here we are, what a week from the show and no price set on the live stream. I would feel a bit cheated if I had been attending the Fan Fest, and I do not agree it is special snowflake syndrome. SE withheld any inkling that non-attendees could partake in the show and in-game rewards. This is just another example of the ZERO communication SE continues to follow.
SE continues to act like they are a new, start-up company and we should chalk the miscommunication to the game only being a year old...give me a break, they have been in business a long time and what we ask for is not groundbreaking. TALK to us, tell the truth and stop hiding behind growing pains.

Yeah, i can't believe it's this late. and there's still no update. A lot of people can't just drop money on something on such short notice, so they're shooting everyone in the foot. It feels pretty crappy to me that i'm at all suspicious that a stream will even happen. Obviously something is wrong if i mistrust the organizers/company this much.

I have a ticket to the festival, but the trip would be a big inconvenience to me. A worthwhile inconvenience, but still pretty big. And expensive. I'd get most of what i wanted out of attending with the premium stream, but if i cancel this trip, and the stream is cancelled or just plain bungled, i'm going to be livid. (Not to mention they announced the stream long after nonrefundable tickets were sold out, and the transfer period expired.)

I'm happy to be going to meet people who are into the same game I spend an immense amount of time playing. Do I think they are guilty of false advertising, no, the wording was ambiguous and I highly doubt it was malicious. The tickets would have sold no matter what. Most of the Cosplayers would still be going, alot of people go for the human interaction in addition to the in-game items, and the panels. I'm sure in the future after this first one is down they will have a better idea of what it's going to take to make this happen. Also, one of the things that may have taken so long for all of this, is the possibility of contract negotiations with unions. Convention centers and hotels that host events like this generally fall under the jurisdiction of union crews, which could have made arranging things and the contracts a bit tricky for a first time event.

Everyone has valid points and I look forward to seeing you all at the Fan Fest.

The experience is what this kind of event is for. Perhaps you shouldn't have bought your ticket (like a few other people in this thread complaining as well) and left them for other people who actually wanted to go and EXPERIENCE the fanfest. Also, IF your health is and and you have a hard time on airplanes, you do not have to go. Don't pay for the tickets, the airfare and hotel and get on the fourm to bitch because you have the privilege/money to go and others cant....but your in game items ??!!?!? Please. What in the world is wrong with people these days?

I say this because no one with any maturity would make light of a disease.

Someday when you grow up, you may realize that there are things more important than spending a bunch of money and time on something that can be "experienced" at home. I planned on going to "experience" witnessing producers revealing information, seeing cosplayers, watching "live entertainment" (which, i may remind you, has never been revealed, so as far as i know, there is none). But since i can "experience" every single event at home, i see no need to sit and feel crappy for 14 hours on a plane. I'll spend a couple extra days working this month, and with my family, and sit back and relax while i see what i originally was lead to believe could only be "experienced" in person.

I listed a few reasons i was planning to go. The in game item is nice, but i can get it with the stream ticket (assuming they're still offering them. They haven't updated yet).

If i have you wrong, i'm glad to hear it. I just know how i was when i was younger, and how time has changed my priorities greatly. Three days downtime (Th, F, M) for two days of "experiencing" things (Sa, Su) that it turns out i don't have to actually GO to to witness, or spend a huge chunk of my life's savings to go to? Nah. Just wish they'd told me sooner so i didn't have to make plans, and waste a ticket someone else could have used. I was eager to go, for the reasons i listed, and more, but the "and more" no longer outweighs the inconvenience.

Everyone needs to stop jumping on everyones cases about this.

I don't think I have read 1 comment that has said, "The only reason I was going to fan fest was the item".
Square Enix has certainly gone about announcing this live-stream terribly. The fact that everyone talks about the "experience" when you get nearly every panel down to even walk-through of the floor kinda is a lot of the "experience" all the non-fanfest people are blabbing about.
Square went to the trouble of pointing out multiple times how the tickets were non refundable and you had to attend to get all rewards (in and out of game), but never could mention in the same sentence about a live-steam? Yeah...Okay...

No one would be arguing about a single thing if SE woulda done like every other company and announced at the same time there would be a live-stream.
I am going to Fan Fest and am very excited, but mainly because its in Vegas. A lot of the "special" was taken out when a 20$ live stream was announced.

Honestly, I'm gonna agree with Tempting here: Square Enix really backhanded us on this one. There was a lot of puff up about you not getting your nice presents if you didn't show up, and now not only can everyone get one of the likely more used and seen presents, the ingame one, but it's cheaper and you don't leave the comfort of your home.

There's something to be said for the experience of being there, and being able to take part, yes, but I'm sure quite a few people were at least half motivated to join in the ticket grab for the fact that they'd get an exclusive sort of thing in the game that this is all about. I can only hope that there's something among the other prizes we get that's similar but properly only awarded to fanfest goers. Maybe something for beating one of the ingame challenges there, or for the Live Quests.

Thing is, it was people on this very forum (first example I found) who cried vocally about not being able to get a fan fest ticket, and begged SE to add an alternate method of obtaining the in game item. ESPECIALLY since they had a server cluster**** that prevented a lot of people from even trying to get tickets.

So they did.

Can't make everyone happy :/

Seriously? I knew I did not have the money or the health to attend. I would have loved to, but seeing as I too have health limitations, I knew better than to put it at risk. The immaturity is blaming a gaming company for your choices. I am GLAD SE announced this bonus because now I am able to participate in something my health would otherwise prohibit me from attending. Choices are just that, choices. No one held a gun to your heads and forced you to purchase anything. I wish people would start accepting responsibility for their choices instead of blaming others. Complain all you want. If you go, you will be receiving something those of us who only get to view the live stream will not be getting - the collective excitement that is generated at large events such as this. I will be sad that I only get to view it, but my choice was clear. This is my opinion, take it or leave it, but there is no need to argue it with me as it is highly unlikely that I will come back to this thread.

Yes, it's our own choice to attend, but you have to keep in mind that our choices were heavily influenced by the information given to us and what we were lead to believe. When I heard about the fan festival, I was on the edge about wanting to go, and up until the announcement of the Moogle attire being given to ticket holders who actually attended the event I probably wasn't going to go. It was the extra in game item being marketed as being exclusive that gave me that extra push I needed. If I would have had any idea they would spring this on us after the fact, I'd go for the livestream.

its kind of a let down about that premium stream and in game bonus item, but on the flip side we get to see in person those who bring FFXIV to life for us. We get a bag of nifty things (if previous fests are any indiction), meet others like ourselves and party in Vegas. The cosplayers, the live events and keynotes. I think the overall experience makes this worth it then sitting on a couch watching others enjoying it.

I am not mad about the live stream (in fact I am happy that they are putting one on) and the in game item being given away with it... I am mad that this wasnt announced as an option or even a possibility (and was played and worded in the exact opposite way) from the start. Yes something is to be said about the experience but for what is already atm $3300 to attend the event for me and rising I think for a significant amount less (in the neighborhood of $3280+ less) I could have had an adequate experience from my living room.

Quite a few folks said that the "exclusive" moogle costume was the deal maker for going to Fan Fest. These are the ones that are now upset they planned a trip to Vegas when they could have spent $20 for the moogle suit and just stayed at home.

I don't think $20 is too much for the premium stream, and as I posted on the previous page, was quite highly requested by others on this forum.

They chose at first to say that they weren't offering it to people who weren't going, then did a 180. It's a bit bothersome.

I think it'd be awesome for people who went to Fanfest to also get a link/key to the premium stream. Reliving those awesome moments from the keynote, and especially the concert would be excellent :D
