time + weather seem to be all the same for the big fish which require x amount of other fish caught before showing up

Anyone have any idea what the current Gathering limit is for Fishers?

(Also drat, I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to be paying out the nose for the new HQ Forager's gear, but unless I missed a new gathering food that adds like +35 gathering or something that's out of reach...)

maximum without the ilvl 80 rod is 409

(supra rod, guildbuff +10, +24 HQ Food, Full Foragers Set and ilvl 70 accessories)

the ilvl 80 rod isnt needed, got it with 409
5 min time window after catching 3 little thalos

beside the 402+ gathering which are required it is one of the easiest new fish so far. Getting the 3 thalos takes only 5-10 minutes and you can catch them 24/7 during rain/shower

Mahar in Witchdrop, Coerthas. Mooch from Cloud Cutter during Blizzard. I'm fairly certain it has the weather transition requirement of Clear -> Blizzard however. Caught with 383 gathering, 359 is too low.

There's no message or buff indicator for these weather transition fishes. But yesterday there was a triple blizzard in Coerthas and I was there the entire time fishing and never did Mahar bite while it bit on the first HQ Cloud Cutter as a Blizzard started after Clear Skies today. And another 5minutes later but my food had run out so couldn't catch it. It COULD be RNG, but I'll trust in Clear Skies -> Blizzard for now for Mahar.

Edit: There IS a second new fish besides Mahar in Witchdrop but I have no idea what the criteria to catch it is and I'm fairly certain it wasn't it that bit when I couldn't catch it.

a 5% weather condition needs to be followed by a 20% weather conditions + very low catch rates even if the right weather setup appears

Experiment with the weathers to be honest. I know at least Snow -> Blizzard wont work, but for example Endoceras can be caught from Clear -> Overcast/Fog/possibly Wind/Gales as well.

Got Imperial Goldfish - but had to fish 12 Jungle Catfish before that in order to get Silverfish HQ in 10 minutes during the buff....

I caught Mahar this morning when it went from Clear -> Blizzards. On the catch I got the fishing weather help entry. Took 5 mooches to get it to bite. 383 Gathering.

Can confirm the 3 Jungle Catfish for the buff. If you had to catch 4 there might be something else to it, either you accidentally fished somewhere else after catching the first one or weather might be relevant as well but doubt it. You wont break the catch chain if you get the "fish sense something amiss" as long as you can just move and still fish in the same location. Fishing in a different one will break it however.

do you have some extended info about helicoprion?

If you catch Canavan (which can be caught at every time during gloom, no weather combination needed) you'll get a 23 min buff which allows catching the legendary Kuno the Killer

I fished 2 magic carpets in less than 10 mins and no buff. But I did have a insufficient one time during a 3x heatwave with 359 gathering.

To hit that do you need all of the new Forager's gear? I'm still at BiS for <2.4 (i.e. 393 with food/fc buff). Just curious what you are using.
