I quit once before due to lack of interesting content that didn't require a static. If friends didn't exfer to Odin to play with me, I would still be quit.
I like the game, but I found myself standing around most of the time I'm online due to not being in a static, can't pass T5, and don't care one bit about farming atma. When I do farm it, I never get any, so screw it. My hours of playtime could be spent elsewhere getting rewarded and feeling like, I don't know, I'm having this thing called FUN.
Yeah, that's about it. FUN
Parley is FUN. T5 with a bad latency for hours on end is NOT.
Well maybe it has to do with the fact that they have their main focus on new players joining (see a good majority of the live letters) and stuff that is for old players tend to be vanity with a small fraction of actual content.
I love the game. Sure, I'm tired of Fates being shoved down my throat and I have limited time to actually complete my daily quests, the lack of transparency with RNG through too many aspects of the game (looking at you Chocobo Coloring and Atma), but i'm not going to leave anytime soon.
No video game will hold everyone's attention forever. Its content is limited after all, and eventually you'll run out of stuff to do that interest you.
You just do something else when you've reached that point. Until there's more content! It's a constantly updating game after all.

1. - all of the terrible casuals who still cant play their jobs to their full potential beg to differ
2. there is crowd control, you just evidently dont use it
3. there is a 110 weapon that takes less than 3 weeks to get at less than 2 hrs a day, quit your crying
4. go play hello kitty island adventure if you are scared to wipe
5. this is actually the only thing i do agree with, the lockouts suck
most people quit this game though, because they burn themselves out for going too hard, trying to get everything now now now, an when they dont get it now, they get tired of trying, an then they take a long break, comeback after a patch an complain about something else.
Akiza makes people want to quit FFXIV
/thread #FeedingTroll

Eorzean Census: A year has passed since the launch of FINAL FANTASY XIV: ARR, and Yoshi-P is ready to share with fans the highlights of 12 months of accumulated play data.
Its funny to me because all of your points are about endgame raiding and the gear that comes with it. That's too bad for you. I've been playing since 1.0 (not a whole lot, I have no max level chars) and I've been kindof a on and off player (played all through beta) but just the beauty of this game alone keeps me coming back. And after taking a break (checking out and playing other games) I think I'll be supporting FFXIV for a while because I've begun to really appreciate the detail this creation. I've done the grinding raids of 40 peeps for months and months to get special gear and have come to a point of just exploring, gathering, crafting and doing quests to get out of the rat race. Once I did I think taking screenshots should become a new class lol, I can cycle thru pics I've taken while out in the world and it's actually relaxing after a stressful day at work. I really hope you find something you can enjoy some day OP ; )
People quit the game because they are BORED, it might have something to do with what you listed, but there are also plenty of other people that aren't affected by this. Note that more people are playing the game than leaving it.
This thread is useless.
silly as this is going to sound i find myself playing next to none thanks to the loot drops in those dungeons i can't get gear i want without a stupid amount of farming and it just isnt worth it to me to log in just to spam the same dungeons over and over for crafting mats, maybe when (if) they fix this i will come back
I find myself spending hours of each day doing crafting and getting items for the crafting. OP, perhaps you haven't been playing very much of the game if this is what is making you quit?
The crafting system is very extensive and quite rewarding to level. I myself find it a nice surprise to see the next rank of items unlock on my crafting window :).
Indeed, it's nearly impossible to give feedback here with the amount of white knights around (like the whole first three pages), even quitting threads, as much as I agree that they are looking for attention, they also work as a feedback, but some people feel the need to protect SE's integrity with all they have and feedback hardly ever gets through.
Main reason people leave.
Boredom. If people get bored they are forced to play other games. If that happens to much they find something else they like.
Most people who left XIV from my guild in the last year it was because of boredom. A much smaller minority was people just hating the game.
Game has a lack of content issue. Part of it is because it is new. Other part is the design concept of endgame.
Here's the real reason.

I kinda understand the whole lock-out thing. Of course, they're doing this so people won't get everything in less than a week then people cry about "Not much to do..."
but what I don't understand is why it's really a RAID lock-out, you're basically really screwed over if you don't have a static.
I suggest: LOOT lock-out instead. This will let friends help friends or newbies, and do learning runs or anything like that.
You finally get to "end-game", and you can only do it once when you have what you need.
That's so silly.
Get coil on farm then you've reached boredom.
I actually want to leave because they won't let me buy more fantasias D;< I just want to be a lalafell, even sent several mails begging them to take my money lol. But, well, they refused.
I cannot say that I agree with many of your points Akiza, but one I can agree with is the raiding. I understand making a fight difficult, but I don't feel having one shot mechanics is exactly the way to go about it. I hate the fact of having to join up with 7 other equally skilled players out there, when the chances of all 7 of them being good are not very likely. (I blame the fact that people join for a major patch, then leave a month or so later until the next one.) Even being in a static like I am now, people will still find the most ridiculous and stupid ways to mess up. Go figure.
So, getting stuck with tanks who derp, healers who still don't know how to heal correctly, and DPS with tunnel vision really throws raiding out the window for me. The desire to be all caught up on raiding sounds amazing, but with the way they are right now, and the fact that much of the gear isn't even worth the time to run it, I'm surprised that many people even do Coil.
Already there, and not bored.
Then again I don't tunnel vision one aspect. I set myself numerous short, medium and long term goals and work towards them and mentally tick them when I complete.Got coil on farm, dont have BiS or t9 MNK weapon yet (baad coil! XD ). Working on getting all Artisan tools, only have 5, slowly getting the rest, achievement hunting, @ 4080 points. Getting Alexandreite (69/75) ATMA (6/12) steadily in prep for 2.4 and NIN. Collecting minions are just some of the goals I've set myself.
SWTOR got boring for me because there weren't a choice of goals to aim for, raiding was easy, so the best armor was crazy fast to obtain, crafting was pretty pointless and boring. So I quit.
FFXIV with it's myriad choices keeps me entertained.
Reason why SE shouldn't take these threads seriously: The biggest whiners still play the game.
Some say that, to be honest, even with multiple deaths in SCoB, you can still go onto to get the win. Our first clear of turn 9, DPS all died at least once, MT died (OT took over till tank rezzed) twice, healer died to heavensfall. Was close, but we got the kill. In fact all turns, our first kill usually came with multiple deaths.
The only ones that can cause issues are not hiding with shriek in turn 7 and tank dieing if only using 1.
The difference between smaller party size raids and large multiple party raids is that in the larger ones it's easier to cover bad gameplay by others, in other words, it's easier to carry. By having mechanics that bypass gear (aka one shots) it keeps a modicum of challenge, irregardless of gear. So you can't, as with simple tank and spank fights, simply overgear it to a point that you can practicallly ignore mechanics.
Funny thing is, those that complain of "one-shot mechanics" havn't done the content they are complaining about, just copy the opinion of someone else complaining who doesn't do the content either XD
This game is doing very well despite your whining dude.
Lol @ all this negative gibberish in response to OP's post. whiners whining about whiners, entertaining. Anyway, I can't agree with most of your points except raiding OP. I believe it should be a Loot Lockout. Other than that, if you aren't I suggest playing in moderation if you are into the pve and pvp aspects that involve combat. Combat is lolsboring and will you burn you out fast if you dont take your time. Maybe take a vacation till new patch? Besides that you can take up the gimmick non-sense, i mean content, also known as gardening, choco dying, and vanity hunting.
Seriously why should they take all this whining seriously. It's always the same people to the point that they're infamous, to the point where they are the almost the sole reason why everyone laughs at this place and after (seriously) a full year complaining about a game they clearly hate they are still playing it. They prove you could shovel any product out and they will still play it under their grumbling. As the most hopelessly loyal they are the perfect customers to take for granted, and the fact that they have composed countless words just shows how emotionally invested they are to this franchise. There is no reason to think they speak for anyone for themselves, the mainstream just votes with their wallet they don't hang around and make obsessive posts about pet issues that makes you wonder about their mental health.
I wish that was the case, but it isn't sadly. :/ The only one I have not won is T9, because people die to the stupidest mechanics. Seriously. Can't imagine how many times I've seen people kill others with jumps, or watching two golems fuse together. (Healer, so I just watch and facepalm, and often give them a piece of my mind as well.) I just feel that some of these fights are truly too unforgiving, even with good gear. Yes, clears do happen with players that have died, but once one has died, the ability to actually clear drops dramatically thanks to the debuff they get upon raise.
I just wish minor mistakes were not able to gimp a team so easily. I find it especially funny that these fights are this way in a game that was represented as such a casual friendly game. Not everything can be that easy, yeah, but that doesn't make it any less annoying with the huge difficulty spike thanks to mechanics that can drop you in mere seconds.
Every MMO does this has nothing to do with casual player skill or how good you are you pick a character you play it and its your own potential that makes the character.Quote:
Class/Job System- is boring, lacks creativity and depth because they built it around casual player skill oversimplifying it instead of building the system around the potential of the class/job.
Different game, right when I seen chains I knew you were comparing it to FFXI and simple is good cause if it was complicated I wouldn't be playing I played Tera controls were so horrid I uninstalled after playing for 2 minutes.Quote:
Combat- oversimplified and lacks depth there are no crowd control abilities, not a lot of support abilities and no skill chains.
People don't quit because of this, though I do agree that there is no way people can recover from a tank or a healer wiping kinda screwing the others because makes them feel useless.Quote:
Raiding- has a lot of one shot mechanic and is unforgiving because if one player screws up he or she can wipe the entire party
Same with T5 the dive bombs wipe out healers or tanks but if you recover and weakened during the explosion nobody still survives it has to be done 100% perfect and not worth it after 50+ deaths for what one item you might not get and story which will turn players away from doing that again.
Na I think this is good, the game needs more things that are drawn out which should take longer than they should, its the outside world things they need to have in order to keep people interested while they are locked out.Quote:
Weekly Lockout- Players can down T6-T9 on a weekly basis and not get a single loot drop for their class. Players wouldn't mind a weekly lockout if one piece of loot dropped for all classes
Game needs time to grow good things come when you wait nobody is forcing you to play the game while this happens you can quit and decide to come back later, though you might be lost on what to do.Quote:
In general anything worth getting in this game is a long boring grind for very little reward if something is going to be a long grind it will have to be the best item in the game until the next expansion.
FFXI took years to get Relic weapon, FFXIV a shorter time, you want something that's gonna be worth it in the end work for it, you don't get it handed to you and if people quit cause of this then they shouldn't even play MMO.Quote:
Zodiac Weapons- takes to long for the casual player to get for very little gain. At ilvl 110 it should take a max of 3 weeks for a player to get if they play 2 hrs a day since new Raids and gear come out every 6 mos.
I can't tell you, besides myself and my close friends, how many others quit because of this. So yeah, they do. I lost interest because of this (and many other flaws I feel the game has.)
Playing team jump rope is not fun. Having 4 end game bosses every half a year is not fun.
Really? I guess they aren't cut out for the MMO scene.
Because every single MMO I have played has almost similar mechanics and super hard to get a weapon or a piece of gear you wanted for a long time and it ain't easy.
Auction house prices beyond anything I could buy and battle systems might not be the same but outside and other places are hard to get to and die trying to get to another spot.
If they quit then like I said MMOrpg isn't something for them man FFXI I played for years my friend quit cause of a worm killing him but before he came clean about that he told me the game was too hard.
I played a lot of mmo's and destroyed them the only MMO's I didn't play were the ones where you point to click and walk and controls are really crappy.
and most of those MMO's like I said are basically the same thing, nothing is easy this isn't a single player video game where you can just push your way through to the end.
this is something you pay for to keep getting content and beating content not something that just is instantly handed to you.
I didn't play world of warcaft because that game spoiled people but I tried it, my cousin had like 5 different accounts with all high levels with all the best gear, I played for a bit on his account got a 60 death knight and it was too easy to do stuff raids easy I can see why it hit so many subs and people got lots of gear fast but look at the game now, you can join instantly get stuff handed to you without hassle.
I know you love to imagine that anyone who disagrees with you is "whining" (you were probably one of those who thought the first person to say "QQ" won the debate), but there are legitimate criticisms. The choice isn't between "love the game as much as a forum troll" and "GTFO". Take a deep breath, finish the homework assignment I gave you earlier, and learn.
I guess that means you're not mainstream.
