You have all DoW/DoM at level 50 but one at level 44, I don't even for a second believe you started Atma's at around 300 FATEs, I believe you have over exaggerated. But good luck either way.

Toukai pretty much covered it. It was just in response to you saying that you were putting other content on hold. The solo aspect of Hunts fits pretty well into your daily routine already so you could incorporate that and actually make progress toward something even if the atma grind doesn't pick up. You could, for instance, get items to upgrade a soldiery weapon (or armor) to i110. I was personally pretty lucky with atma and am up to working on my Novus for MNK, but with very little effort my BLM has a better weapon because I just grabbed an unidentified allagan tomestone (Sircus Tower, SCoB), 1300 soldiery tomes (dungeons, Hunts, Frontlines) and a sand of time (Hunts, SCoB) to instantly have a i110 weapon.
Do you ha e your zenith weapon equipped?
Yes, I have three zenith weapons, although I'm usually using my Bravura Zenith because I'm usually by myself or with a small group, so the added damage and survivability makes it much easier and faster than what I can do on my paladin or white mage (which are my other two)
EDIT: And you know, since I started this thread...how many hours ago? Before I started it, at about 2pm, I've been in central shroud trying to get atma of the maiden.
It's now 11:51 pm and I've got nothing to show for it.
Unless somethings changed since the original drop of the Atma storyline you cant change weapons for the fates. So if you accepted the quest as your WHM you have to do it with your WHM zenith weapon to the end (all 12) before you can do it with other zeniths. Basically you'd have to do all the fates as a WHM with your zenith or else it doesnt count.
This sounds bogus. I talked to jalzahn as either pld or blm and went to get my first set of atmas as smn and then when I got them all I decided I want to use it on drg. I'm almost certain that I didnt take it as smn because I almost never touch it and I only took it out once I figured that finishing boss fates would be faster and safer on smn than on either pld or blm. Pretty sure I got a couple atmas as pld too. This was before 2.3
You should just take the "I'll get it when I get it" approach to ATMA and stop making it your focus content. Just do fates at random when traveling around and eventually you'll get there.
I think this an issue with just MMO gamers in general, we tend to go full retard and get OCD over a certain piece of gear or content in the game, and get frustrated when we make it our sole mission to get it. I know I been there many times, there comes a point where you just need to stop obsessing over it and let it rest.
Theirs better weapons out there anyways.
My best advice to my friends and people in my linkshell that are attempting their Atmas is to switch areas every time 10-12 FATEs.
It helps because:
-it changes the scenery
-you aren't becoming more and more frustrated/annoyed/sadpanda not finding it in that area and asking "Why isn't dropping for me?"
-you "reset" your bad RNG by doing so (and what I mean by this is wishful thinking more than anything) :3
I have so far collected 3 sets of Atma and when I don't find an Atma after the 10-12 mark, I swap areas and I usually find one in a few FATEs. In my experience, if I keep grinding above 12, it feels like the bad RNG keeps accumulating more and more so switching areas reset it. (Again, wishful thinking) :P
That sucks cause I am on my second atma weapon. The second one took 5 days
Yeah dood, it does blow. I switch it up every hour usually, check my retainer, port to a new zone. Helps stave off the suicidal thoughts for the most part. ATMA to me is just fluff crap they added to buy time to try and catch up with content releases and stuff. Hopefully this will get reduced because its quite time consuming. As a tank its not like I can just queue for a dungeon and farm while waiting. I either farming FATES or queuing for dungeons.
At some point you are at a roadblock and there are no other pieces to work on. So your casual approach only works with casual players, not players actively trying to advance their characters. Many other people want to complete their relic weapons so that their contribution to their teams is greater.
I've been plugging away at atma for a combined total of 100 hours. It's been over the course of a couple months, some long sessions on weekends, sometimes just a couple hours a night. I've been rewarded with 10/12, and I hope to get the rest out this weekend.
And just this week, my friend starts his atma leg and is already 6/12, over the course of two days, and a total of 4 hours. I'm happy for my friend, but what a terrible system SE put in place for this. It's not even interesting or challenging. There's nothing fun about dominating a low level FATE because even synced my strength is several times that of a normal leveling character.
The whole thing should be revisited\reworked.
Oh trust me i feel your pain as rng is bad with me as well. Let's just say i got the 3, 000 fate achievement a few months ago.
Hope you don't leave the game however because of this :(
Ps actually that is false information about if you started the atma quest you have to do it with the class for the atma drops
as long as you have a Zenith weapon equipped it can be done as any class. Not sure if it was changed but this has always been the case.
Just to clear what someone posted up.
I have got atmas with blm, drg and Bard, Bard being the class i unlocked the quest as.
If you go into a grinding game expecting the game core to change, you are in fact in the wrong genre.
Yup - it sucks for everyone, some more than others, so I feel you.
But quitters don't win, and winners don't quit! ;)
I feel your frustrations. Mainly because I've been doing Frontlines a lot over the past week or two trying to rank up. My queues are always 30 minutes long, and besides Fates, there's almost nothing to do. You can't join parties, you can't hunt. Basically, you can craft or Fates. I've gotten one Atma in this time. I don't even care that much, just trying to make the time feel faster.
Here have my Heart swordrain !
I hope it chears you up !!

Moe~ Moe~ Kyuuun!!
Some people do count, especially those of us who were the ones trying to nail down the drop rate (which SE doesn't tell us).
Not only did I count every single one that I did, but I even counted each one on a per-zone basis as well.
I ended up doing exactly 631 FATEs for all 12 Atma (121 just in Southern Thanalan alone -_-; ). Overall it was about 40 hours of just pure grind.
I consider myself lucky that I didn't end up as a mathematical outlier like the OP is sadly drifting more and more to becoming (and others I have talked to) :(
OP, Drink Sake and have a party while doing fates for your atmas. It worked for the Devs.
I put a ton of time into getting my sphairai atma, and I completely agree that it was a huge waste of time. I'm on my sixth book and I've fallen behind my brother in progression who is only playing at max two hours a day. Hunts may be boring, but they shoot your ilvl up into the air like a bottle rocket compared to the atma nerf gun.
This isn't grinding on par with anything I've ever encountered on an MMO outside maybe reputation in FFXI. (Yag necklace. Still cringe) I'd be willing to say it is worse even. It definitely needs looked into, its one thing to grind rep by doing some quests once a day but sinking 40+ hours in some cases trying to get a weapon upgrade that isnt a weapon upgrade is a turn off. I got my PLD's and said to hell with it for the rest, if I happen across them during my daily business awesome. The time vs reward involvement for Atma is terribly skewed in the direction of time.
As I said before, its essentially just a time sink SE put in place to give people something to do that will take up a large portion of them time.
/rm tinfoilhat
I empathize about the Atma thing. The RNG is a real downer at times. I've done nearly as many FATEs and have only 7 of the 12 Atma I need for just ONE relic. (I got my second relic, Veil of Waifu... I mean Wiyu yesterday.) I've watched FC members who have percentiles in the upper 80s+ fail on melds/synths/desynths multiple times in a row. I really want Scylla's Robe of Casting (because I REALLY hate the tail condom coat) but have only seen it drop once... and when it did, I lost the roll to an FC member (I guess it's only fair, I did win the Darklight boots they wanted for glamour purposes, but at least the coat was also an upgrade for them).
When the RNG gods are not with you, it's enough to make one curl into a ball and sleep for a week.
A pure RNG lottery with no mitigating factor and single-digit chances is one of the worst design elements to ever be introduced into the game. That the development post was about the "purity" of the RNG's randomness and not, you know, the design problem of someone potentially having theoretically infinite FATEs before their Atma arrives shows an out-of-touchness with proper randomness in modern online game design.
The same goes for the general, well, unfun-ness of things listed as "80%" failing 10 times on a dice roll you can't even see.
Yeah speaking of those fails. During my Novus quest, I lost 4 different grade IV materia's, each of which was during the point when I had a 84% success rate.
Holy crap that's some serious bad luck
I remember my first ST not remembering that it was a weekly lockout so now I have a fancy summoner belt that has just been sitting in my retainer inventory for whenever I decide I care to level summoner lol.
Looking at all your 50s i'm jelly^^ but just never give up and keep trying hell if you like ill do some hunting with you i don't mind^^
Yes I agree, SE should revisit the ATMA system. I wasn't defending the atrocious grind, just merely suggesting to OP to give it a rest. SE may never change it, but you can change your play style to help make it more tolerable. It's not good to get fixated and tunnel visioned on something that's this grindy and based entirely on luck/rng. Your bound to go crazy.
I would say that perhaps the OP needs to take a brake, rather then give up on the game altogether. Give it a month or so, and return perhaps when you feel ready, or even wait for the next patch. It would be a shame to put to end all the effort you have put in the game, but it is up to you.
Oh and /hug :)
