Griefing with an emote

Emote griefing? It's insane how sensitive we have become over the years. Many of us grew up playing MMOs where we would be corpse camped until forced to log out. Then the next day we would be the ones doing the camping, and neither player would go crying to the GMs.

yea this new emotional society is just permeating every facet of what used to be fun and killing everything now. just tonight i got killed and they planted fireworks on me, was i mad? no, i actually had a good laugh. yall butthurt people need to get over yourselves. its just a fantasy game. keep your emotions out of it.

Imagine what the reaction would be like if players actually could see their enemies name and whisper them during PvP. (Usually what is normally allowed in most games)

T-bagging, or taunting, isn't that simple. It can be used as a tactical advantage. So, what exactly happens to you when you get taunted? You get infuriated and you might let your emotions cloud your better judgement. What will a person, consumed with rage and wanting revenge, now do? They will find the person and attempt to kill them. No, no, no. GM's will get involved because they fear people quitting from lack of actions done to alleviate their frustrations. That's why they nerf dungeons and give echo buffs. When a player quits, they lose $13 or $15 a month per player.

Some people play better when they're mad though...

I do it all the time, nothing like making drg/mnk/blms get tunnel vision and focus you down the next round instead of the healers, and if Bayone, Camante or even Yoshi want to play on primal, ill teabag them too.

i tea bag people by jumping on them repeatedly. but i dont do it to brag. i do it when i see a corpse that appears to be hanging around to long to see what the winning team is doing. usually gets them to leave pretty quick.

Here is a tip for those who are having issue this type of behaviour:

Resize your spawn timer window, enlarge it to 140%. The window is big enough to cover yourself and whoever is doing this emote on you. :cool:

He he, if this makes them feel better. To be honest, if you dont like getting emote spammed, probably better just stick with group. Although this is technically not an official confirmation, but Mr. Morboro did not respond to one of JP thread in regard to this issue. This is not really a player harrassment since emote message is disabled and there is no evidence the emote is used on any player..

Tea baggin etc is disrespectful and dishonorable. Just like desecrating a dead body, but I don't expect some of you to understand what sportsmanship, honor, or respect is. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Have you ever considered the fact that the developers are Japanese and to them it may be disrespectful? We are talking a bout a society that has historically taken discipline and respect seriously. And some wonder why there is a separate JP server or why in FFXI most JP did not want to play with NA (Americans).

i think you're thinking too deeply about this. the teabagging is towards other players, not devs. so why would a dev feel disrespected? and i'm pretty sure most NA players know very little if next to nothing about Japanese culture to even care about putting discipline and respect in game.

Brick wall if you just don't get it. Doesn't matter if it is not directed towards the developers, they apparently don't approve of it if that is the gist in the end. In FFXI there was usually non JP player whining that they couldn't get a pt during JP prime time. Never stopped to think maybe it was because of their lack of respect which included racist jokes or comments, not to mention WWII references. Having lived in 2 other countries and experiencing some of the cultures, I do get it. Point I think some are trying to make, sure you won, doesn't mean you have to be unsporting. I would have more respect for another player who showed class rather than one who gloated.

A fighting game I play (Japanese, if its relevant to the above comments) somewhat recently got patched to completely to shut-out inputs immediately after a K.O. from what used to be a second or so after you K.O. your opponent because some people get ridiculous with disrespecting downed opponents.

I actually welcomed that sort of adjustment.


But if you're playing an MMO, you can't censor yourself from every single rude gesture and any work-around people can find to insult you. Be glad that the extent of it is just emotes and not continuing to attack downed opponents. In fact, in a lot of competitive (fighting) games, the winner sometimes/usually makes provoking or sometimes downright disrespectful comments. It's sorta in the nature of "competitive" conflicts.

I find this behavior particularly amusing.
Was in a game the other day and this Scholar kept aiming for me, and ONLY me. And he/she was a Scholar so the least I can expect that person to do is to prioritize healing party members over chasing me and continuously damaging me until I eventually die. And every time I did, he would come over, jump on my body apply some fireworks and carry on his merry way. He even camped outside the node and waited for me to come to just chase me across the map and yes, kill and repeat the above.
I loved it. I had never laughed so hard in my life. I got kinda fed up trying to avoid him so I just ended up jumping around him throwing my own fireworks and he did the same.
Man that was fun. You guys need to lighten up. It's just a game, so act like adults for once.

I now feel so wrong for popping a bottle of realm reborn red over my defeated opponents in tribute to them!

Ok, I normally don't teabag people but spamming /huzzah is the best emote to do it with. Especially if you're a lallafel. It's hilarious!

It's immature and unnecessary behavior. If you do it you deserve to be punished. It's as simple as that.

If you cry about being punished for acting immature then you're just as bad as the people you seem to degrade for not condoning your behavior.

Grow thicker skin. My friend was once killed in WoW by three people who then deployed a bonfire on his corpse and proceeded to eat. Funny stuff.

Perhaps if getting champagne popped over your corpse pisses you off so much you shouldn't PvP in the first place and go back to your perfect little world where everyone cares about your feelings.

I generally vote-kick people who whine over stupid stuff like that. Helps with coordination.

I'm referring to the poster that said SE was taking action against players who behaved in said manner.

I played in WD for months on end and was paired with a bot match after match after match. He went on to hit r40 from loses and acquired multiple sets and as far as I know, was never punished. And you think SE care about you dancing on players corpses? Keep dreaming those of you who can't handle pvp players.

People have been banned for dumb stuff like getting kicked from party via vote-kick. Would NOT be surprised if someone got suspended (at minimum) for griefing people. SE caters to crybabies.

I'll be honest, I've done it before to encourage dead people to move on; i.e. they've died and they're waiting around longer than their respawn time to see if the flag gets undefended. As soon as you start a Manderville over their head, they port right out. It's calculated, and by no means malicious (God knows, doing a Manderville assures you're gonna get targeted by the entire alliance on the next wave. Only an idiot would bother doing it to be a punk.).

Also, as a note, a Manderville is uniquely effective for this sort of thing! I had a whole new appreciation for that e-mote when I watched my character doing it. Super effective!

Corpsedancing is so passé. Company Tracers and champagne over the fallen bodies of those who defended their freshly-pillaged outposts have improved my mood in Frontlines considerably and nothing short of running out entirely will stop me. I'm surprised I haven't seen players on other sides do it, personally.

I make sure to emote or sparklers often, it puts the opponents on tilt. We're here to win after all, so every little bit counts.

Your statement is lacking dimension. If it's a matter of people getting vote-kicked without justifiable cause (say, 3 others ganging up and kicking someone JUST BECAUSE), then yes, that's a punishable offense. Beyond that, nobody's getting banned for using things as intended. And taking the hardline, "anyone who complains is a crybaby" stance won win any points here. A lot of times, there are rather valid points behind what someone might otherwise pigeonhole as someone being a "crybaby".

In this particular case, I'd say what I said before: spiking the ball/doing a touchdown dance in itself isn't griefing, but if someone's getting excessive or specifically targeting you repeatedly for it, then yeah, that's going too far.

As for the crybaby comment, it is true that SE does caters to crybabies. Look at how many nerfs EASY dungeons such as AK had. And these echo buffs just because some people can't do instances like Titan HM or the FCoB. While some people may argue that "SE is only adding echo buffs to boost people into doing SCoB and harder content", I find it ridiculous and unnecessary. The real reason SE adds echo buffs for crybabies is so they don't lose a player's $13 or $15 monthly payment. If a person can't beat something over a while, some may quit. I've had a whole FC I knew back when I first started "disappear" because they couldn't complete harder dungeons.

which ruins games because it encourages a mass breed of players who don't learn how to play their classes or how to deal with monster mechanics. thus everyone pays for it because we are all then forced to play with baddies game after game after game and get nothing done no matter how high that echo buff is because the problem is the player, not the environment. i can't count the times ive gotten damn near close to the echo cap and still be one of the few men standing on Titan HM because baddies got blown off from Landslide or died to Plumes; had to do so many resses from Plumes that I went oom behind it. the times you want to just play the game solo, you end up getting grouped with these same baddies that jus ruin the game experience altogether.

I'd ask you then: What are the hunts really? A mass player boost. (This is both a stark truth and a harsh criticism from someone who largely doesn't care for the hunt.) Now then, allow me to play Devil's Advocate for a moment. You made very good points, but I simply want to give different perspective.

People generally aren't going to play something that's "too hard" especially if they have to pay to play. Now, I'm certainly of the camp that agrees there's not much that's difficult in this game, and even then, with good skills, attention, and even just an okay team, you can conquer it. I liked the harder AK, I actually really enjoy Titan Ex (or anything that requires lots of dodging, and I absolutely love Coil. I loved it when it was "harder" and I love it even more now. Why? Because it's not just a 1% thing anymore. And that's even being within that percentile. More people trying it, more people LEARNING it, and more people even being willing means shorter queue times, more variety of players to run with (I love Coil, but even I need a break sometimes), and less "baddies" so to speak. Like I always say with T5 and up, "Can't burn it if you don't learn it". Nobody's an expert from the jump, and it's foolish to even think it, let alone expect it.

Let's face it: This game has gates. As I'm sure and and all MMO's do. AK may have been one at one time, but it's largely lost its original utility, and now only serves as another step in the initial relic quest line - there's no need to bottleneck players there. Same goes for Titan HM: STILL a challenge, if you're new to it (because Echo is NOT a free pass, if that were true T5 would be just like AK now), but still no longer a necessary gate for players. As more gets added, developers must consider making necessary changes to avoid creating a situation where they create a glass ceiling, that only so few players can get past. Because what happens then is you get your 1% at the top, rookies/newbies/try-outs at the bottom, then one HUGE grey area in the middle where people who aren't brand new/unskilled, but aren't yet hardcore/skilled enough/time-restricted due to life responsibilities just get lost. There's no going back down to the bottom, but then again, there's that glass ceiling. And in that nebulous middle is where you lose people. Newbies/baddies/try-outs that don't want to work harder, and those who WANT to work harder, but just can't get through that ceiling.

The TL;DR of it, basically is: When new content is added, old content needs to be adjusted accordingly, otherwise, it becomes nothing more than an obstruction to what's new (and for all the Atma haters out there, yes, I am aware. And I'm sorry.) And let's face it, if I were a dev, I WANT people to keep playing. Keep getting me paid. On a personal level, try that new thing I created/added to the game. Give me feedback. Let me know what I can fix or do better. Yes, some will tear right through it like it's not even a challenge. Others will spend several subscription cycles trying to get through it. Too hard? Do I (the dev) agree? Bam- it gets adjusted. ADJUSTED. Call it a nerf, call it a buff, call it catering to whiners, but imagine if devs didn't listen or ignored/were oblivious to legit player complaints. . .

i find it funny that they issue warnings for such things when they let people freely bot in pvp. I used to hang up a certain bot on a post and record the time of the match to submit it to SE, i did this over 40 times to a specific bot... GM's did nothing about it or any other bot that trolled the wolves den que for weeks at a time 24 hours a day. Hell there's a good chance i will get a warning for even typing the word bot on the forums (I have before, thanks for punishing me for bring up an issue on the forums SE)
