People communicate in this game? I finally got to Uhdal and no one was talking to each other save for two people who I think were in the same linkshell.
Speak radius is too small and you can't set things to shout without constantly typing in /s. :\
In town that's kinda messed up IMO.
I'm just tired of all the Mithra/Manthra players typing "mew" and "meow" after every sentence.. Is that really necessary?
I just assume that all "cat-girls" on here are males. There are a surprising number of men in MMOs that wish they were female, hence why they play as female characters. Some say "No it's not you dumb dumb, I just dun like to stare at a guy's butt dur dur dur!!" but we know the truth ;)
Yeah I pretty much assume all female characters are guys. And you know everyone's defense: I'd rather stare at a (Suggested) female butt for hours than a guys.
It's unfortunate that even now, not many Final Fantasy fans have adopted Ventrilo. I was shocked at how many ladies played Aion. Hell at least 1/2 the legions I joined were run by them. Which by the way is awesome so long as they are level headed.
To the relationship thing. I don't know many people who have dated via a MMO but I do know one kid who has gotten booty calls a couple times. The girls were really cute, he is butt ugly lol go figure O.o
Maybe people do the booty calls on that World of Warcraft thingy.
I just find it funny people somehow think having a female character as a boy player needs defending at all. I mean, it's a character, they find it fun..
Maybe if you were trying to deliberately mislead out of maliciousness then, sure.. but.. just having a female character? Why is this bad? All the reasons people seem to think it could be bad that've been given, aside from trying to be hurtful, really just come off as bigotted and mean so far as I can read.
When I play I say "It's a role-playing game, so I'll play the role of a [enter character here]". If I have to tell people my real infos I'll do it, even if it'd not be necessary. I just like to role-play, and an MMORPG is the best place to do it!
When I don't role-play, I just go into Mumble and chat with my pals or in the linkshell chat.
It's only when I play real-life MMORPG that I take the role of myself and try to win the game.
On the relationships: It is possible for relationships from MMOs to work, the key is to not play a game looking for a relationship, dont forget it is real people you are talking to and thier true colours can come through, also you do need to talk through vent/TS/skype because there is always the risk people lying about thier gender, its just a fact of the internet and text chat. Also dont forget just because somone posts a pic of them doesnt always mean that is them.
And always take it slow online, talk for a bit in voice chat, then when you feel you are getting to know each other be careful about how you meet if you choose to meet up. The key is to take it slowly.
OMFG this. Also, NOT A GIRL'S NAME. It's like these illiterates never heard of GONE WITH THE FLIPPING WIND.Quote:
At least no one thinks you're a girl because "Ashley" is a girl name..
Ashley is unisex name. I am trying to follow some of the people's logic on here.. Role Playing game, sure I made a character to play as a girl because I want to play as a girl. For some reason I find it odd. it is like choosing to play with barbie dolls over gi joes.
Agreeeee. I also find it funny how people freak out over guys playing female characters, but a female playing a guy character is ignored... people shrug it off.
It's a game.. play what you like.
No need for people to get over-sensitive or defensive or anything. Women playing male characters usually don't get all insecure like that. :x We don't need to defend ourselves because it'd just be silly for someone to be so bothered by it.
Great advice. Couldn't have said it better myself. ^^/
Its easy to tell between a mantha and a real woman. Me and my other real women friends in the ls always hate on the manthras because they all pick pink hair, ugliest face, and most of them are seeker of the sun.
This is me, add me if you're on selbina server. http://www.facebook.com/molotovzav my facebook has my in game character and real life pics.
Do people play mmos to find relationships? Me and my boyfriend both play mmos but i met him irl and he got me into XI, and thus we play XIV together. I knew people who met playing games but it wasn't on purpose usually.
ooo and i heard there were manthras in xi who would get free stuff out dumb guys :/
So I thought my character name is not obvious enough... It's a trap!

Lol i thought i worded it quite badly, but tbh its from personnal experiance, I started playing 11 to have fun, then as time went on and and i got to know a certain person i started to get close, then I heard her on vent, kept hanging around with her and we got even closer, it started a few years ago and I have yet to meet her because she lives in US and i'm in UK and I havent had the money to go there, we have exchanged pics.
Oh and btw I am a guy lol
Yes i'm a guy, i never pretend as a girl unless i ROLE PLAY it.. :P but as a tomboy not as a weak female fella... xD
Voice chat isn't something you should ever have to pay for esp on pc. Besides that fact, outta free AND payable ones vent is pretty damn low on the list for quality. Just cause something is popular doesn't make it the best or even anywhere near. There are a TON of much better Voice communication tools out there for pc alone so it's funny when people refuse to switch from it xD
As for the topic at hand Let people play who and what they want to, does it matter? Know how many of my female friends play a guy character? LoL It's a game xD That in itself is also a reason not to post a pic too... Yuck, get enough pervs that ogle over me on my in game character.
I play a female character because they have nicer asses to stare at all day while I play.
I play a female character because I simply wanted to do something different this time around in ffxiv opposed to my character in ffxi.
Those who added me on facebook I added you back. ^^
On a side note, i knew women who played as galkas , and it was due to them feeling more comfortable since they were self-proclaimed "butch lesbians", but with dudes playing a female character, its not usually because they feel more comfortable in a females body or that they are more feminine. I've heard "its prettier to look at running around then a dude", not saying this is true. i bet there's a chick who is not lesbian who was like "look at my funny little lala with a mustache" or "look at this burly roegadyn" but, i just think people shrug it over because they're more likely to think females playing males has to do with LGBT then with "looks hot running around". Idk just what i've heard around nothing actually true probably.
There are also a surprising number of men in mmos who think the character they made is actually how they look in real life. I hate to break this to you but male hyurs dont look very manly at all. and dont get me started on the male elezen with the manbra looking underwear. And btw i've yet to see a rl gay guy actually play a female toon in an mmo. Also what about people that play lalafells, do they want to be midgets irl?
Once the summer event comes around I'll be setting up a Roegadyn Chip N' Dales for meet and greets. All welcome. Your online fantasies come true.
And those people fail, because here are some real badass male characters with that name. Like Ashley Winchester in Wild Arms 2, for example.
On the topic, I mostly play guy characters as my main, as I am a guy. I do also have female characters though, because I like to have one of both in games where you can create your own character. I can't bring myself to make a Mi'qote though, everyone and their dog has one and it kinda put me off. It's like the Elin army in Tera.
