They should've made it so grand companies were a permanent thing, not able to be hopped between.
I assure you, the wait times are real and the systems matching is not functioning as expected. As i stated earlier, I'm Twin Adders queuing as a MRD/WAR during peak times and I've waited up to 3 hours for a queue. Then I get my son to Queue, sometimes after 30 or more minutes after I've been waiting, on his tank (also Adders) and he gets in before me. Something is not working somewhere.
May I ask how your queue times are, what company you are, and what role you queue as?
Totally agree, however this will end up having an adverse effect as well. Maelstrom does seem to be the most popular, generally the most amount of cooperation amongst Frontlines teams, etc. However this won't be as prevalent in the coming weeks if all the bad players switch GCs thinking they can get carried into wins. I've already started seeing the effect in my cluster. Maelstrom usually always would put up a good fight in the matches I did prior to 2 weeks ago. There was a couple matches where we (Immortal Flames) just absolutely crushed everyone. We won and the other teams had sub 700 points lol.
Do you even read what I am saying? You sound like a kid crying: "Daddy dont love me." The number of Malestorm on English data centre is much greater, especially on Primal Data Centre, Malestorm number is overwhelming and there is simply not enouch Twin Adders to lower your que time. You can help to resolve the issue by join the Twin Adder, now, would you do that?
Favorism? Are you out of your mind?
i realize roles dont matter since we can switch in the match itself. Would you like video proof of my wait times? Why are you completely unwilling to listen to those who are legitimately having an issue? the issue is NOT solely based on GC affiliation, time of day, or any other issue that the player has control over. I was part of the Limsa Lominsa GC and switched about 2 weeks ago (my switch had nothing to do with PvP wait times, at the time i switched I was unaware of the discrepency in numbers) and I noticed 0 difference in wait times. It sucked too cause When I switched I lost my 22 levels in PvP experience and had to start from scratch. I would really like it if wait times were 10 min.
Yesterday, I set myself up for a queue and forgot about it. Went grocery shopping for over an hour, came home. put them away, cooked dinner, then sat down to eat. That was when i noticed I was still waiting in a queue. That happened between 4pm and 7pm PST (West coast Canada). This has become the norm.
I do think that a viable solution would be to reunite all servers and databases for PvP queue's. even if its just for frontlines. At least then there would be a larger pool to draw from.
I am in PST playing between times of 4pm-10pm on weekdays in California. I queue for Immortal Flames as DPS (BLM) and my queues are generally 15-30min.
Okay, but so in your example:
You are living on a server that was designated 'EU'. So your server primetimes are actually 7am-2pmish your Western Canada time. (Basing this on roughly 4pm-11pm Paris time). Not only that, overall, the EU data cluster tends to be slightly less populated than the NA/JA clusters. So yes, if you queue for large-scale content of ANY kind, when the majority of the players in your data center are asleep, you will have longer queues.
Add onto that, that you have to wait for a balance AvMvF setup, and you have a recipe for long queues.
The best way for you to decrease your overall queues, has less to do with what Grand Company you play for and what data center you're on. Join a more NA time centered data center. But in your personal case, it has less to do with 'broken queues' and more to do with 'lack of player interest'. The queues don't work if people actually aren't queueing to do the content. (Anyone who's queued Cape Westwind as a solo DD after most people cleared it can already tell you this).
And to everyone, but ESP Maelstorms. If you have a LOOOONG queue. Try again at a different time of day (if possible). I get my best queues on my data center either mid-afternoon and/or 10pm-1am EST. I suspect this is because there is a group of people who logs in and does their PvP matches first thing (maybe because they can queue/cook supper etc), and last thing at night (after they finish their static content/hunts etc). There was a week when my queues were long as well, and I just learned to NOT queue at those times+ playerbase balance in the FC memberships changed=I typically only have a 5-10 minute wait.
My Maelstorm FC mate waits 20 mins on ave, with longer queues being 40mins.
I realize my particular server is an EU server but I was pretty sure that the DF and PvP queue matching systems match across servers within a particular Data Center. All data centers have a mix of JP/NA/EU servers. If that is the case then the peak times for my particular server should not necessarily matter when I'm entering a Queue that pulls from other servers. Unless I am wrong. I have been wrong before and will be again. Really though, if the queues only took from the server you are on, the wait times could be days long with all the other factors involved.
I do notice things are a little better on saturdays and sundays but there are many reasons for that. I'm not complaining, only trying to point out that there is an issue that exists. I still think a solution would be to expand frontlines to mix parties across data centers as well as servers. That might help but if there is a problem that exists within the way DF is prioritizing queues and creating matches then expanding on the pool of players it draws from wont make a difference.
Nope

Chaos Data Centre is made up by EU servers.
I stand corrected, thanks! I looked it up and sure enough, all worlds on my data center are "EU" If i didnt have to transfer 6 characters at $20 a pop (me and my family are on same server) then I would move in a heartbeat. Only reason I was here is my EX-FC convinced me to move from balmung. Worst choice I made...
Sorry for misconceptions I had. Hopefully I can get transferred at some point and see how much difference there is in queue times.

Gonna leave that there for data center info. :x
Queue times is one thing, but if you end up joining with less than a full party it gets annoying.
Honestly, I've been to groups with only 4 people in an alliance. Do you know how frustrating that is to know that you'll lose before the fight even starts?
Since you obviously can't read, I'm in Maelstrom BECAUSE OF THE GEAR. I am NOT switching Grand Companies, Because I don't like Adders gear OR Flame gear. I don't give a crap about win ratio, I have been in Maelstrom since ONE POINT ZERO. You know they didn't have PvP back then, right? But I should not be forced to switch companies and lose the vanity I enjoy because some babies have to be on the winning team. This problem is EASILY remedied by making 3 random teams, non-GC or skill specific.
I also don't understand why so many people are saying "well change GC if queues areslow".
Pretty certain the issue is across all GC's (data server dependent of course). In addition to this, it's not the kind of thing you can really do when you're already rank 30+
Yep, queues are perfectly fine:

This is completely and literally retarded. I know we've grown accustomed to logging on and having to then WAIT WAIT WAIT to do what we really want, while we occupy ourselves otherwise in the meantime, but that gets old and we're limited in what we can do while staying within the 45 sec Commence or Wait All Over Again window. Hmm what about Hunts? Well can't join a party for that while in DF for Frontlines, I could solo it and get 2 Allied Seals while everyone else gets 20 for the same effort. There should just be no need for these queues I'm in Twin Adder where there's less people and we still have to wait.
Now I get where the 'Theme Park MMO' term comes from- since at an amusement park you spend 95% of your time in line, and 5% doing the things you enjoy and went there for to begin with.
Nah, that is called duty finder being bugged and it will happen to all instances, not just the Frontline. All you need to do is just to re-que. It is duty finder issue, not the GC affliction system. He doesn't know which GC because original thread on reddit is just a screenshot with no context. He cut and paste it here because he thinks it would support his cause.
I don't understand having to wait 2 hours to be missing an entire alliance.
Yea this queue issue is an on going problem. I'm afraid to say that the people denying this just don't PVP or are intentionally trolling. All day last night I queued for FL with a friend and we weren't grouped.
We both checked in progress and we queued at the same time. He was able to get into 3 matches while I was able to only get into 1. Doesn't make sense and clearly something is wrong with the priority system.
Is the popularity going down? Are people just getting their mounts and bailing? I enjoy frontlines but the queues as of late have been a lot longer than they've been before.
3 Friends we all Q at the same time, all solo
They both get in, do their game and they re Q, I didn't get in with them.
They both get in again, I didn't.
Why does DF hates me so much... I had in progress checked just like they did.
Just think DF dislike the Miqo'te Master race !
That was more an example of how when we're waiting for one thing such as this in DF, it limits our other options for anything that requires being in a separate nonqueued party. Which makes the experience of waiting a long time for each Frontlines match that much worse as it excludes us from being able to fully engage in other things.
First off, I apologize for the "Raise Thread" spell I just cast but I wanted to add on to my previous position.
If you go back you can see me arguing about queues being very broken. Now I do still think they need some attention and priority fixes and maybe even make them cross data center populations to speed up queue pops.
A little bit about where I'm coming from; I was initially in the Maelstrom GC and was having queue pops between 2 or 6 hours and then I switched GC to Gridania (mostly for aesthetic purposes and housing, this was before reading this thread) and then I noticed my queues were going between an hour and 3 or more hours. Better but still much longer than they should be.
A few things I discovered was Regardless of the times I was playing (usually 7-midnight PST or any time of day on the weekend) I would have crazy long queues, weekends were a little better but still long enough I would set my son up to watch for the queue to pop while I did housework or made dinner or whatever. I was on the fence about changing servers (I was on Ragnarok) and then found out some of the information I thought was correct, was in fact incorrect. I thought that all data centers had a mixture of JP/NA/EU servers but in fact each data center was a collection of servers all from a particular region. Hence the reason I could not get a party for Frontlines since it was like 3-5 am in the EU.
I have since switched (back) to Balmung and I have noticed a huge difference in queue times, the max I've waited was 32 min. GC really does make a difference but only because of the crappy mentality your average "MMO Vet/Hardcore" player has about always taking the path of least resistance for the greatest reward.
Here is the summary I took from this experience:
1) Players are flocking more towards Maelstrom, for the wins
2) The Frontlines are set up so the GC's are separate and you can only queue as your GC
3) More players are waiting for Maelstrom queues. (This is like queuing for a Dungeon run as DPS)
4) Lines are shorter for Twin (B)Adders so we rotate through the queues faster (This is like queuing for a dungeon as a Tank)
So, If I can lose 10 games in the time it takes for (a poster on the previous page waited 10 hours for one queue) then I'm gaining more rewards then someone waiting on a Maelstrom win. This does lead me to believe that GC really does matter (as well as what server you are on respective of your real world location, but this was my own mistake which is a long story in and of itself). The only downside is I havent won a match since I switched (servers) but it has only been two days. There is definite lack of organization compared to when I was in Maelstrom but I still get rewards for participating.
TL;DR If you are in the Maelstrom and don't like long queues for Frontlines, try switching to one of the other two GC's (Twin Adders is probably the shortest). If you arent interested in switching for whatever your reason then you will probably be stuck with long wait times. Unfortunately it is the way they have this PvP queue system set up so unless SE decides to remove the GC restrictions, it will always be this way.
It could be fixed, at least a little, by opening up the queuing to cross data centers but I dont think this will be something they will explore. They separated data centers to fix queuing for other DF things and I dont think they can separate just the PvP from it.
PS: It would be nice if they expanded on the PvP area and added in things to draw players waiting on queues to gather there. Might help to grow a PvP community or at least let you see who else is waiting.
While I'm almost convinced that there is a bug or unintended issue behind the DF in general, I do think this is also a major contributing factor. Flames on Primal have reported max 10-15 minute queue times while mine (as Maelstrom) are anywhere from 45-1.5 hours. I've taken to reading while waiting on the DF and I'm halfway through Les Miserables as of this week lol. So I suppose these horrible queue times have positive consequences in my real life, though I doubt this was SE's intention :P
Lol Keep Dreaming... Lalafell Master Race
Also the issue i have with this is the simple concept of if the Queues are so bad, why dont SE just open up the server restrictions to again populate the queue, ive sat there once for 215 mins for a queue, what did i do you ask? i fished.. Alot..
the queues arent as big of the issue when the game itself is peering out to get a 24,48 or a 72 man, why not give it an X amount of time, if nothing changes withing a specific span such as 28 players are queued, then drop 4, make a 24 man match, then requeue the other 4 and put them in the other match which is next to pop?
Sure itll suck a lil but itll be faster pops.
if it is in fact based on GC demand i would like to see a GC swapping "penalty" for Frontlines. something like a few weeks or a month cooldown for frontlines if you change GC's. You can still do all other GC related activities but you cannot pvp in frontlines for one month. call it new recruit training. yes harsh but i think it should be. i think swapping GC loyalties should not be a thing taken lightly as far as Frontlines is concerned. i think there should be a significant time(or missions where you gain no gil or exp) to prove your "loyalty" to your new GC. . .since this is a lore thing.
