Yes I believe that was the intent, as there was another post that referred to the PS3/PS4 holding the game back. But like that other post, it also turned into a PC/PS battle.

They should remove the game from PC, PS3 and PS4, it's holding back the game on PS2.

With technology as it is nowadays, one wonders why the consoles companies don't make them with modules that can be upgraded, instead of starting from scratch and build a new one, forcing peeps to dish out 400-500$ in one lump sum, versus a graphic/memory module that might cost let's speculate 100 bucks per x amount of time.

Guess because they fear the people, same as those who cheat everywhere, will have an easier access and start modding lol

You do realize that PC gaming is still widely popular in Asian countries and still growing even when the decline of PC gaming in the West. Your logic is pretty much "if Edison didn't invent the lightbulb we would still be using candles". Guess what? That's not true, someone else would've invented it. The same goes with everything really. Progress would happen one way or another and the gaming industry would've still evolved with or without consoles.

That's a point. In fact there were several versions of electric lights invented before Edison's team; the main thing Edison accomplished was developing the technology to easily manufacture electric lights. (He was also an unscrupulous, credit-stealing jerk, but that's a secondary matter.) And the biggest recent gains in gaming haven't been on PCs and consoles anyway. Everyone say hello to their mobile device overlords. Regardless, PC gaming has seen a fair bit of a resurgence the last several years and i suspect part of that relates to backwards compatibility. PCs by default have it and can be backwards compatible with games that were never released on a PC in the first place, the horror!

I do have to wonder about all these cheating programs you speak of. If they exist I usually hear about them and I haven't heard about anything but a parser and an obscure windowing program that doesn't have anything worth anything on it.

from a business standpoint this would be a stupid move, it would be about the same as shooting themselves in the foot to dodge a bullet.

Really though if SE drops PC support I won't be able to play. You can bet I'm not the only one in this boat too. please think before you make stupid suggestions like this.

This was good for a laugh, could care less if some pc players half to use radar add-ons to even do hunts. I still manage to make it to hunts by taking notes on spawn locations and times and works well. Ppl just half to always find something to complain about and start a fight with someone over its the internet what can ya do, the game/ add ons don't make this community toxic the players do, ppl should just stop complaining every 5 sec and well get good that pretty Hunts gear and sands still don't save the reflex challenged from getting killed by old content that they out gear by 30+ I lvls. Still enjoy watching ppl far more geared than me cause my static for coil disbanded get wrecked on Titan Hm when I get it for trials roulette.

You do realize Final Fantasy XIV wouldn't exist as it is today if not for PC players since 2010. You do realize that a very very small percentage of the PC players use cheats and abuse the system, and would likely do so regardless of platform the game is on.

GPU upgrades would cost more than $100, the whole reason why they can afford to sell HW at the prices they do is because on-board gpu/cpu chips are cheaper than a module. But it's not that nintendo/sony/ms can't make a upgradable unit, its that they wont because upgradable units mean different specs and less cash flow. The cash flow part comes from licensing rights to the new systems, 1st party accessories like controllers, and other media facets partnering with the developer(think hulu/netflix/ect). Hell some developers(nintendo) even make money off the hw itself.
The real question is why Ford won't make a car that isn't found on the side of the road dead, requiring the driver to return on foot.

Why are people taking this so seriously and getting all upset over it?

It gets passed around so freely because it is true.

Stopping support for the system that the majority of the players in the game use sounds like a great idea for something they are trying to make last 10+ years.

I hope for your sake that this is a horribly poor attempt at trolling.

This is a PC game first and foremost so any update will be made for PC and ported to console. Without PC, you won't have a game to play. Also PC players don't cheat as much as you think. It's just the better platform for playing the game at a higher level and while I am sure many people look like they are cheating they are just playing at a normal level. But on a PC and far better placed to actually play the game. Secondly the consoles are not void of cheating, they are basically PC's with specific and static hardware configurations with one OS. Which actually makes it a lot easier for hacks and cheat to be developed as there's little variation and there for little need to worry about conflicts and other forms of security beyond what's already there.

Third and finally the last post I will make. You need to actually put effort in and understand the games mechanics, otherwise you run the risk of looking like a fool.

1: this game would not exist if it wasn't for us Legacy Players who actually stuck around for 1.0 onward
2: like Jin said console players can also cheat and hack, i'm not saying PC players don't cheat cause there are some that do but not all
3: only cause you cant do something yourself doesn't mean its the PC Players fault, sorry for your lack of skill in a game you obviously don't have.

This will never happen, Xiv would shut down within 6 months or less of the effective date of patch.

A platform should be dropped because of "lack" of limitations? Oh boy.
