Why is it a horrible idea for PVP gear to receive special treatment in a PVP map? What good is PVP gear if it is inferior to PVE gear in a PVP map other than for glamour? If Frontlines ilvl syncs gear and nullifies all materia, then what is the point of PVP gear existing at all? For that matter, why does Frontlines give Wolf Marks to buy gear that is inferior in PVP compared to every other piece of PVE gear already earned?

The problem is that they seriously messed up when designing the PvP gear. They seemed to have been attempting to make PvP gear less than optimal outside PvP. The problem came in the fact that Morale is far to strong. It has an effective ilevel of +20 in PvP and that pretty much killed PvP.

PvP equipment is hardly as bad as you think it is becuase so much gear has dead stats like Accuracy, Parry and Piety. The Bearsmaw Axe and the Direwolf Battleaxe are both better than a High Allagan Axe in Frontlines. Lionsmane Cuirass is the third best chest for Paladins. Snaketongue Spear is the 4th best Dragoon Spear after a High Allagan Spear, Liberator and Allagan Spear.

Got in a battle with 4/24 trolls DC for the entire fight (they DC/ed right when the "begin" message popped), and we were unable to kick them due to "being in battle". That was awful

I see it having value again some time in the future once everyone has caught up with the win traders. they would probably bring back the materia effect and morale stat

im not a pvp fan but its not THAT bad...ill prolly have more fun as a DPS than healer but its cool.

I'm loving the adjustments to frontlines, and I've been having a lot of fun. If I select "join in progress," my queue pops almost instantly, and it's USUALLY at the beginning of the battle (less than one minute has elapsed). This is a great fix to the problems plaguing frontlines after 2.3 hit (never getting into a game because of queue trolls). I'm looking forward to when SE implements the functionality allowing players to automatically join without being prompted by a party leader. Being able to sort based on kills, damage, heals, etc, will be a fun little bonus... if just to see where you stand among the friends you queue with.

For those that haven't tried Frontlines, I definitely would recommend it. It's like a blend of DOTA/LOL with Guild Wars. A good mix.

Frontlines is the gem of the 2.3 patch for sure!

I never played Final Fantasy for PvP.
I never thought Final Fantasy's attempts at PvP was fun.
I never had any good ideas of what they could do to fix it.

I wouldn't exactly call Frontlines "Fine Tuned and Balanced PvP" but this isn't horrible since loosing provides a significant reward making the need for balance less of an issue.

But it is absolutely fun, and it was a huge leap in the direction of having successful PvP that everyone can enjoy!

They at least should allow PvP gear in a PvP environment. I also don't get why the morale stat is being ignored.

I love Frontlines!! a little more PvE mobs tht like wonder to camps wldnt hurt thought, but by far its great i would love to see some frontline xclusive PvP gear but wld understand why it wldnt come for the sake of balance for now BUT, as far as adding to it for the future i think it wld be appropriate, that or adding in more Events to it like a FATE that pops up that which ever nation defeats the spawn boss or FATE obj first gets an item that will help turn the tides of the battle or something that will make it worth while to go and do the FATE, Just a thought

frontlines is cool but i thought there was mobs running all over the zone ? and also sometimes the matches end way too fast. i know its first to 1600 but the points fly up way too fast. im looking forward to other zones on frontlines if you decide to create more

Only the middle has monsters: lodes and nodes. The Node gives a massive amount points (maybe close tp 150?) and the lodes give a decent amount. Points only accumulate fast if the match is very lopsided. If the Immortal Flames owns 4 posts and they're controlling the center, then it'll be a landslide. The good thing about Front Lines is that there are plenty of ways to gain momentum, but no single way to get an instant win.

So keep one that's Ilvl 80 since all the newbies are going to spam that for their ranking anyhow (honestly there's no difference. People who are rank 40 still have an edge over people who are rank 1 regardless).

While it's good for the morale and the newbies, I'm hoping in the future they add frontlines that isn't handicapped; People who didn't win-trade their way through and actually put blood sweat and tears into their PVP decisions would like to test to see if their sets and the millions of gil that they worked on and spent overmelding PVP gear is going to help them performance.

Had a strange thing appear with grouping just now:
Not enough people got pulled in to create 3 Alliances x_x So in the end we had no Group C.

Am I correct that they will add that "Add Member(s)" feature next week? Because the party leader only could set up "looking for replacement" (my group wasn't full either) when the gate opened. And since there was no one in C, no one could join in progress for that Alliance.

Eesh, I hadn't even considered that eventuality, Coris! Let's hope they take note of and resolve that issue soon!

So, none of the PvP gear works at all in Frontlines? Not even the i55 crafted stuff? I knew there was a cap on the battlefield, but I assumed that the lowest set of crafted PvP gear would be worth it. I got a full set crafted and was going to work on materia for it. Do I not have to bother with it at all and go back to my regular gear? XD

Morale and Materia don't work in Frontline, so you'd be gimping yourself by wearing PvP gear because Morale replaces another secondary stat. This applies to all of the PvP gear. You basically want to deck yourself out in the best PVE setup you can get for i80, which might be quite different from what you want for uncapped content like coil.

after playing extensively on Frontlines, I feel the system in place is really good. However, some tweaks here and there will make it awesome. So I would like to see what do you think as a player about Frontlines tweaks that will make it even more successful. for me I have the following:


Frontlines :

1- Losing GC points if you get KOd in Battle: this will bring in even more tactics in frontlines, for example sending teams to attack with the objective of killing players to reduce their numbers , while at same time sending another team to capture outposts.
2- more points in KOing players. right now it has no meaning to kill people at all. its not even close to anything. if we get more points per kill , even just slightly, it will make frontlines more tactical.



Wolves Den:

each match should consist of 3-5 rounds. increase amount of pvp exp more then frontlines so that people have objective on why they would do it. waiting 30min for 1min match is completely off putting. 5 rounds with more EXP will justify it.

I will hope they allow Glamours in there at some point. TBH, I read the job name of my targets but the character may as well be a stick figure for all I can make out as they (and I) run around like crazy. I don't know how anyone can take the time to check out someone's gear.

Finding 72 or almost 72 people can take a while though. Any empty spots we had in our alliance seemed to fill fast. I went as BLM and, even using "in progress", it took a while to get in.

I do not like Wolves' Den pvp but Frontlines is actually kinda fun. :D

Sorry, but armour look makes absolutely no difference to the abilities of a player to PvP. Everyone is pretty much equal and its a matter of player skill, not what they are wearing since everything over i80 is dropped down to i80 gear and materia is ignored.

Its silly thinking you can try gauging a persons ability to pvp when they are wearing pve content gear, you know ;)

Exactly. PvP gear has no effect on frontlines currently whatsoever. Gear is capped to i80 as well.

To make it easy to distinguish which classes and jobs you are up against with a quick glance, we’ve made it so glamours are temporarily removed upon entry; however, we’ll be looking to remove this limitation once everyone has gotten used to this content. :)

By any chance, would it be possible to have a configuration setting that you can toggle on or off that would control whether you see glamours or the base item while in PvP content? It can default to the base items so players can get used to it, and then if they want to, they can toggle the option. If they want to retain the slight edge you get from seeing base gear, they can leave the setting as is.

I don't know if this is possible or not though for you to even do, but I think it would make everyone happy.

What? This makes no sense. i have no idea if im looking at a sch/whm or blm/smn or war/pld at a range that would make a difference, what i can do though is read their name plates which show what they are...

Wasn't the original reason so you could distinguish ~ilvl of what you were up against?

Last thing I'm really worried about in Frontline is whether or not my opponent's gear is at the i80 cap (I don't feel like most people would go in without it at cap, anyway...), and their name is replaced with whatever their job is, so the appearance of gear doesn't tell me anything that just looking at their name would.

Don't know about you, but if I see a High-allagan WHM w/ an Ilvl100+ weapon standing right beside a WHM in i70PvP gear and a i90ish weapon, guess who I'm going after first. Glamour doesn't exist in PvP for a reason...there IS a strat to not only knowing who to target and kill first based on party role...but also based on gear. And well, in the above case, not only can I quickly tell who likely has the more potent spells, and higher vit...but also in many cases, who's got more experience on their role/understands how frontlines works. (Dude wearing PvP in there is horridly confused).

I hate the looks of my whm gear as much as the next guy, but it isn't me hiding anything. People when they see me know: 1. Healer and 2. Decently Geared Healer. Which also hints that I'm likely a PvE dedicated healer as well....vs. the dude in Darklight, or Dungeon drops w/ just a Relic+1 who likely tends to main another role in PvP/PvE ...and therefore might not have the same reaction time/decision making as a more dedicated healer would.

Doesn't matter how good or bad your gear is, you're gonna get blasted into oblivion when a bunch of people pile on you anyway. People will attack you because you're a healer, doesn't matter what you're wearing. Most people in Frontline can't seem to pay attention to what's going on on the map, let alone what anyone is wearing.

It is pretty hard to miss "White Mage" "Black Mage" "Monk" etc. above your head in big letters.

i have no time to find out whos healing the most when theres a huge teamfight at hand. i would personally aim the nearest healer and go at it.
no offense to the rep but his reponse made no sense as other said...we have huge nameplates hovering over thou head. XDDD
