I guess the only problem I see here is the disparity. People are getting comparable Weaver drops from Unhidden maps and we don't know where the Waterproof Cotton comes from.

Does no one really have the cash or stones to desynth some seabreeze for our entertainment?

Good. Now... may i ask why this kind of GLAMOUR gear is so hard to obtain/craft? I'm trying to get a cute bikini for fun (a damn lvl 1 bikini), not pentamelding all my gear to craft it and to try to beat T9 savage with it...

It's just a bad excuse to make us waste time until next patch... At least sailor gear set was 1-star recipe...

It will be the same for the Wedding Dress once marriage system is up? we will need to craft a 4-star recipe with a full pentameld of grade IV materias to be able to get it?

Gotta say I agree, can't help but feel bad when I play on my alt on Balmung for all the RPers, they don't level up and play the game like we do. And those bikinis are gonna be MILLIONS cause of how hard they are to get. And its only lvl 1?! /comfortRPers :(

Also it has been confirmed that the Sea Breeze swimsuit has a chance of dropping the cotton as well. Odd...

This is why I fail to understand why people immediately throw these items on the MB. It is such an achievement to attain these items yourself why would you put it up to sell?! At least wait until you have it for yourself before selling it right?

Yeah it's just got to be tempting to hope some guy sitting on 20 million gil will buy it. I'm sort of happy it will be rare but a little bothered that I need to level fishing and CUL desynth to have it. I'll live. If I manage to get it first on my server you know I'll be AFK in Mor Dhona for hours just wearing taht speedo.

The point is "why do you need an insane amount of melds/requirements for a single piece of gear whose use is for pure glamour?" It has almost the same requirements than one of the new ilvl 90 jewelry items... and that has an use for endgame... this lvl 1 bikini is just for "fashion"

vanity gear has always been level one, I don't see the point in changing that considering it doesn't grant any stats at all

Hate to tell you but 20m is a "fair" price considering the rarity :(

The max you can expect to get is 1-2 of these per earth week if you go all-out. I got my first one last Monday evening (almost a full week) and have only been able to obtain one more since; and believe me, I've been trying.

Frankly, for anything less than 20m or so it isn't worth doing for a fisher just because of the time economics. I know that seems crazy but it takes 3-4 days to get one because of the rarity of weather, HQ base fish, hooking big fish, reeling in big fish, and desynth. I jacked my gathering to 393 and could not reliably reel in the fish; I'm talking fully-overmelded gear, supra rod, FC buffs, etc... fish will still get away. Desynth rate for the cotton on the fish is less than 10%. Good luck.

I also can't understand the whining about this. It's not a mandatory item. Nothing bad happens to you if you can't get it, and it doesn't affect how you play the game. If it had stats, or content was unavailable to you if you didn't have it, that'd be another story. This is just something interesting to work for that isn't easy to get but doesn't give you anything. It's like many achievements.

I'm glad someone found it before I started leveling WVR to desynth LotA drops. That would have been expensive x_x. Thanks for sharing it here!

The unfortunate part for me is that I was leveling FSH (a third of the way to my Foragers rod!) and my wife was leveling CUL desynth. I was going to fish up fish for her to desynth. If this is the only Big Fish that desynths into the cotton, well, that's not going to work because it's untradable...


Also, someone is selling this for 5m on Faerie. But prices for stuff like this is rarely very high on Faerie, so it'll probably drop to 2-3m before it sells.

Based upon the difficulty to obtain, I'd be shocked if they dropped to 2m-3m in the next month.

ilvl 110 gear is outdated soon, vanity gear lasts for eternity, thats why its expensive and hard to get

Mastercraft Demimateria are 2m each last time I checked, and were that from the time they first went up. My server has relatively low prices on high end items because there just aren't many people there with tens of millions of gil.

I think the person I saw on Gilgamesh wasn't actually trying to sell for 20mil I think it was more of a,

"I'm gonna put it up for 20Mil to show it exists & if someone is desperate enough to buy it for that then sweet."

You can't just discount him by saying 'that's an opinion'. It's not an opinion; it's a calculation based on the amount of work involved vs. what else you could be doing. He's right, on principle. Only other side to that argument is that people won't value it that highly. Which won't end up in them actually selling regularly for 460k, because there will never be enough people willing to put that kind of time into something selling for that little. So it'd end up just not farmed, or farmed only by a few for personal use only, not for selling.

I wasn't going to argue endlessly, but this is exactly right.

From a time investment perspective, the "opportunity cost" plus incredible frustration is something like 20 mil. Of course, people need to individually decide if they want to play the fishing/desynthing lotto to go after this or make guaranteed money. If the lotto is a low number of millions, it's much less attractive and these will be extremely rare.

Let's assume you're there when heatwave pops and ready to fish. You'll get about 60 attempts per weather cycle.

• The base fish, storm rider (about 41% to catch)
• You get 5-6 HQ storm rider per cycle (about 1 in 4 are HQ)
• Those fish are mooched and you either get a dune manta, a caravan eel, or the olgoi (about a 10% chance to hook the olgoi)
• If you hook the olgoi, you have to hook and reel it in... with 393 gathering it isn't even a 50% catch rate (about 1/3 the time with 350+ gathering)
• Once you successfully catch the fish, you must desynth it; about a 5% chance to get a cloth (I'm about 2 for 50 attempts)

So that's 5% on 30% on 10% of 25% of 41% of casts... during the 20%-30% weather.

In short, it really doesn't have much to do with opinion.

There really isn't a market for mastercraft demimateria on our server. The two listed for two mil are mine, no real intention to sell them. Just listed them higher that I thought someone would pay more for storage and who knows someone might be willing to pick em up at that rate.
