Heh, that's with. Trying to skip the last bit of the i70 rod. But, my i70 accessories were temporarily on loan to my retainer for exploration xiv's so I can hit 340, good to know.

Edit: snagged back the accessories and with spniach quiche hq it was putting me @ 339...made the new belt and hit 340.

The minimum gathering required for this fish should be 348 or 349.
Actually I only tested it with 343 (not enough gathering) and 349 but a LS mate said he got the 'you don't have enough gathering' message with 347.

Heh, yeah I just came back to say I just got insufficient gathering @ 340. Back to Moraby Drydocks...

I'm glad it seems they've made it so you can't skip the Forager's rod. That small grind is an important part of showing your diligence as a fisher.

Actually no, just need the fc action. And that thing is no small grind.

Lost this one twice with gathering 348, I suspect food is required.

It's only about 30 hours. That's nothing. You wouldn't survive a day fishing in FFXI if you think 30 hours is a "long" grind haha.

Wow @ that outlook. Not looking to "survive" content, looking to enjoy it. And the average is about double that for foragers rod, it's been calculated and compared with the measely 45 minutes for the other 2 gathering i70's. Good to see SE sort of listened to changing it for the fishing rod by making it skippable with a more reasonable grind.

Sometimes it can literally take hours and a helluva lot of luck to land a new big fish. 370 gathering and they still get away more often than the last big fish. Beginning to wonder if I'll even 100% this log this time around.

Hi all! I am Gathering 349/364 w/Tomato Pie and 292/297 w/pie. I caught one so far and have gotten "fish got away" at least 7 times. Anyone know why I am getting "fish got away after update so much now? Thank you in advance for any answers.

Ok guys update:

Just caught 4 Olgoi-Khorkhoi in a row! Sand Leech - Heatwave - 5pm - 11pm ET. After 11pm got manta's and caravan's and fish get's away! Food: Stuffed Artichokes, Gathering 355, Perception 308. Been trying to get these for past 2 days. I caught one but didn't note time, after missed over 10 with "fish got away"
This seems to be a good time to get them.
Please confirm if this is the best time!

It has been confirmed that desynthing Olgoi-Khorkhoi can yield the elusive Waterproof Cotton (pic in Japanese). It has also been confirmed by others. It is unknown if this is the only fish that can drop it.

I think this fish should be renamed "Sand Troll" honestly, 372/300 Gathering/Perception using Spinach Quiche HQ and I lost it 5 times, without food I was sitting 348/292, lost it once and caught it the next time.... so confused... anyway, one down after almost 45 minutes straight of fishing with a Heat Wave up, not looking forward to the next 2.

Its a tough one.

My fisher alt is max melded and on spinach quiche and can still loose these things.

You must catch 3x Olgoi-Khorkoi, trade them with 10x Fieldcraft demimaterias III to Talan in Mor Dhona. After You will obtain Talan Seal of Fishing, you must trade it him back together with Halcyon Rod and one Mastercraft Demimateria.

Whats the minnimum perception needed to catch this? I have 348/250

I've lost probably around 60% having 383 (max melds, 70 tool, hat, gryphonskin/rosegold accessories, HQ spinach quiche, +10 gathering fc buff).

Caught my 3, now I just have to level a completely unrelated skill for weeks to get my rod. Thanks, SE^^

So disappointed by these rates that I'm making i90 accessories so I don't have to blow through all my FC points on actions.

Pretty sure you mean you can only equip i90 crafted accessories as DoW/M. They don't say all jobs like the i70's do, it's "Disciples of War or Magic".

Fish can have both a demimateria drop or an item drop, so that's still inconclusive.

Does it even matter if you have 349 or 383 gathering? It seems to get away no matter what. Am I suppose to Hook it asap? Same with Shark tuna. Cant seem to get a break. then i read comments on other sites and on here and it seems people have been getting them more at lower gathering

I think for this fish there isn't a way to get enough gathering to hit its 100% gathering mark >.<. Cause I've been sitting at 383 and lost it, while my fishing buddy to my right caught it at 365. Technically I think I have the higher catch percentage then him, but I think there is no 100%ing this fish. Sooo higher gear helps, but it's still RNG like with Silver Sovs

Decided to come back from my break. Lost two today in one sitting. At 363 gathering.

This is going to take a while.

13 heat waves, 378 gathering, not a single olgoi

just lost 11 of 11 so far

I'ld prefer fishing 30 more HQ sovereign then 3 of this...

EDIT: I told my company that I was going back out to fish for these. One of my friends said, "I'll send Lalaluck your way!"

15 minutes later I had caught all three. I'm not usually superstitious, but... Maybe get yourself a lucky little Lala if you're having trouble?

Now to figure out how to get those demimateria.
