This should be priority number one. I can't recommend the game to anyone until this is fixed. And it is long past time to hear from the developers that the current party formation tools are unacceptable and need to be replaced ASAP.
Now, I'm not defending the current party search tool over /sea, but i can understand where the devs were going with it. It was originally intended to recruit members openly (but also specifically), and for specific reasons such as Raids, Leves, and Quests, and to show where the camp would be located at. However, I think that /sea is so important because it is also quick, easy and specific.
Personally I think that the party recruitment system should be kept, but at the same time commands need to be added. In FFXI you had /search <area> <class>/<level>/<name>, but you also had /invite which would put your flag up. Don't forget about /inv guys, it was amazing. For this game, however, I think we could use a /recruit which would open up the party recruitment menu. I don't think we should scrap it especially because it's not friggin hard to use (saw a comment about rocket science, it's not that hard dude c'mon).
Anyways, /recruit would be very cool because I think being specific about starting a party LFM is pretty neat. For instance, you don't have to stop and /sea all 25-30 inv every 5 minutes in hopes that someone will pop up. They would just join once they got on. Another really cool thing that could be added for seekers would be like /sea all 25 recruit. There, now you can see who's LFM, whereas /sea all inv would show who's LFP.
Right now, the current system is more micromanagement than it needs to be, and it is also very limited in terms of what players are used to on MMOs. Adding /sea and /inv, along with /recruit, would make party searching lightning fast.
One of the few threads on this forum that i see a 100% acceptance lol.
And yet not a single community rep post. :(
It's pretty obvious we need a better LFG tool, especially since we got leves nerfed.
I've only been in a handful of parties so far and it's been nothing compared to FFXI because they only last for maybe an hour before 1 person has to go and no replacement can be found. If they revamp the party systen to someting similar in FFXI I think the game community would be better as well because nobody seems to talk and they're nothing like a very good xp party to make friends. =D
Hey come on now, clearly things like adding a new pose emote take priority over a functioning party system in a MMORPG. :-)
Have the devs mentioned at all about an overhaul of the current party search feature? I'm looking to get back into the game but the current system is just so tedious I don't even want to play. When you're not part of a Linkshell it is just so tedious to get into partys.

DEV's please reply or something. I'd be happier with the DEV's saying "give us a couple months to add this" than just completely ignoring the multiple threads that have been going on pertaining directly to this issue. Apparently it's not an easy fix, either that or Yoshi-P seriously has his priorities out of whack..
Yeah please just an answer from DEv.. Please ; ;
just read the letter from producer. no mention of search function update AT ALL???? WTF i give up with this game.
Agree with this, we definately need a LFP icon (shouldn't take much to add one) I would rather see something better than the /sea command though.
The current Party search would work if they updated it to work so you could search criteria much in the same way the /sea command worked though.
Seriously, it's very boring playing this game without any conventional ways to interact with other players fast and simple. MMRPG without easy access to good in-game communications is a boring game.
And that's what keeps me out of this game whenever I try to play it but log off after a few mins of idling in the game doing nothing but solo; solo is boring in a MMRPG!!
Why have they been overlooking this problem?! It is such an essence that must have to keep any MMRPG alive!
Just thought I'd chime in another agreement for the huge need for this.
There were several things in FFXI that didn't work as well as they could have. But, you really didn't have to throw the baby out with the bathwater, ya know?
The current system could be useful in its own right. But, without a quick system similar to what FFXI had, the current system just isn't enough on its own.
Just the fact that inviting someone requires that we have to find each other (or now be in the same LS I guess?) -- really?!
/sea all [search term] {Yes please}
Edit:
I found this post on this from Bayohne, Community Rep:

But it's from April 20 -- 6 months ago.Quote:
We discussed all of the latest opinions with Yoshida. While it won’t make it in time for the implementation of the raid dungeons that the development team is working on currently, we’re planning on implementing enhanced LFG (looking for group) and automated party creation features.
Also, while it won't be an easy task, we are also checking into the discussions for a cross-World instant party creation system.
Please continue to leave feedback so that your time and experiences while tackling dungeon-related content in the future can be enjoyable!
Since the last update added a small (still unused) function for parties, the following was also posted by Bayohne:

In my opinion, devs should put a hold on the less fundamental, though very cool, aspects that have been mentioned to get the party invite system fixed. I can live a little longer without chocobos. I can't play a game where I can't group easily with others.Quote:
For those of you asking for a brief tutorial on the new "Seek Invite" system we updated the Lodestone with just that. We are taking all the feedback we've seen thus far, which is a lot as I'm sure you're all keenly aware, and will be discussing it with the dev. team.
In the future, we do plan to make it a more streamlined experience when seeking a party, similar to the party search systems of other MMOs.
Otherwise, here's what very well may happen:
People who have heard that big changes have started happening will read the notes for patch 1.19 when it's released. After reading the long list of the awesome stuff, including good changes to the fundamentals of the game, they will miss the fact that the party system still isn't fixed. Then, they'll update and log in.
They will realize they still can't make a party. Many will leave the game again, this time, I'm afraid, for good.
We don't need an awesome cross-server raid/dungeon grouping system to begin with. We may not need it at all. Please give us a basic real party grouping system, then see what we want as far as enhancements.
/end wall-o-text (Sorry)
Totally agree with the above post.
I don't see the point in adding more raid content without a decent way to find a party.
Sure its nice to raid with your LS but some of us don't have the schedule or time to wait around for these things to happen, some days I just wana jump on and find a random group and go do a dungeon.
Please don't make this game like FF11 where you were expected to wait hours just to find a suitable party.
I agree that we don't need a cross server grouping system but a closed server grouping system would be amazing.
Yup yup - hear hear. I agree 100% with this entire thread.
How ARE people partying right now anyways? Is this happening at all? The world of Eorzea is so silent between users. I never hear shouts or see people talking or anything. Is there a linkshell that people meet up in and party through? I'm on Karnak and I'm a lonely adventurer. ;_;
Inos Sylph
yes why the hell is a better party search not the top thing to do right now? people are dropping like flies because they cant group with others.
Yes pleaseeee. Add the /sea command and party flags please! :( I think this is really holding the game back from being a very social experience like FFXI was. As it is now, I feel like it's easier to just go solo monsters than try to shout in towns trying to find an XP party.
WHY ARENT THERE ANY UPDATES ON THIS!????? WHYYYYY!???
I'm constantly reading patch notes and letters from the producer, and not a word on this...why.....why.....why.....
I came from 11 and every time I start 14 i often do /sea all linkshell and /sea all as a habit. 11 did it so well, stop ignoring everything that was well done in 11 just to seem unique and make everything difficult to the user.
Maybe going a different direction with this, but here is my take on the seeking party system from launch till now. What I mean is this is not the first game they have developed and they know it's critical for, oh my a MMO to allow you to, I don't know easily play with others.
I fear SE did not put the easy, usable search party function in because of the lack of content and severe nerfdom of leveling in this game. Remember your first job to level 25, without the sub job (whatever level we got it at in ffxi.) Personally it took me forever to get a rdm/whm to level 30. It was my first ff and mmo. The point was it was a challenge. No daily exp leves, free gil from everything. You had to beat stuff up just to make your way through ffxi, and yes you would fail (not the go back to the aetheryte and try again wink wink, fail. The, lord, I did not set my home point and we don't have raise I might as well quit this party because everyone thinks I am a noob now FAIL.) In failing you, and later the parties learned what works and what doesn't. That being the back drop for where we are now. I digress.
Imagine IF they put the code (I'm sure they saved the one from ffxi) for an easy LFG at launch, heck even now? Zoom zoom party grind damn 1 level fifty down in 4 days, bam zip another, pow zam, boom,, ooops I leveled every job in a matter of 2 months with great awesome parties. Now let's ummmmm ummmm ...... ummmmm.... craft till they raise the level cap in another year and a half??? Look at forum posters from all over, 5 level 50's everywhere, WITHOUT a functioning LFG.
So yes I agree it needs to be in there, truly it does!!!! However, maybe instead of making everything look really fancy first, they could have created some content over a five year dev span; player progression, role development, party involvement (with the ability to find one included absolutely free), then nice looking trees.
My guess, it being square and everything, is that they did just that, it's all in the works and everything is going to work out perfectly and this is all part of the game somehow building up to the seventh umbral era, they did make ffvii after all. Till then I am going fishing. Please say this year has been a dream SE!
please...... i can hear the moogles crying in the background.... don't let the moogles down.....
yes please add this soon!
Honestly lundakh that's what I believe they did. They just made it so we cant easily pt with each other. Another things is the party spots. Have you partied recently? What the hell is up with the camp sites they're retarded. Mobs are either too far apart or repops so slow. I just joined the game recently because I was waiting for the game to improve but I still see no improvement. Where ever it is it's pretty slow. I know that I touched on different subjects but since you brought up the obvious reason of why they might have not put a user friendly search party function. End rant.
Hang in there evlmica!!!!!!! It will get awesome, I swear. I left that little glimmer of hope that possibly this was all a set up for the real big thing coming down the pipe line :)
As for parties, nope haven't been in one. I said well, if it is a set up for the umbral era thing, then I will look at eorzea like this. It is a peaceful time, what would an adventurer be doing. That's right not adventuring. Working in the coal mines, out chopping a forest, or best yet gone fishing :)
As for improvement to parties that we can be hopeful for: Grand companies!!!! I think this might take away from that feeling of pull kill wait normal camping gets to be. Rest assured this game will rock. The cut scenes and storyline cant be this good without some awesome fighting to boot. Ok i am out for now, gonna catch a big one. peace
These are some of the biggest issues ingame and they appear to be the longest we are waiting for...
Wow, read them all, and of course, i disagree... with the current system. And like some of you have said, it could be just like FFXI's, i mean, please, just copy-paste the system in 1.19a, and then you can go fixing the little details around it, but even if it's flawed or whatever, any /sea command would be better that the current system. I've never partied with anyone but my own brother before, and i've tried, i've shouted and LFG, and so i got very slowly to 40 without partying at all... not really fun (well, somewhat fun, but could've been funnier, a lot). So yeah, this has my full support as #1 priority, let's make this and even bigger thread so they realize how important this is.
If u go under "Feedback and suggestion" ... u'll find another mine thread like this.... nearly 5k viewed.... and still no response from DEV... W T H ?!
Came back from a break recently. I started to really enjoy the game. Yoshi P and team has done an excellent job at making the game more worthy of the Final Fantasy name.
Two things still bug me and I don't know the last time they have been addressed.
One: The party search feature. It is so tedious. The partying is fun but finding a party is just absolute torture.
Two: Copy/Paste terrain maps. Any word on when this is being fixed?
Here, here !!
I have quit and don't intend to come back until they add some kind of party search / auto grouping system, I have yet to do any of the dungeons because most of my LS are in a different time zone to myself, I'm chomping at the bit to try this new content but screwed if im standing for hours shouting in Jeuno .. i Mean Ul'dah to get a party.
Perhaps we should all change our sig to something like "SE please consider adding a decent party search feature in the next patch + a link to this post" might get a devs attention. /shrugs
Amen on the /sea or very similar facility.
And Ditto to the quoted above... though I could see and appreciate the person's opinion that posted just before you.
I am sure that something like server info could be as available as the /clock command. For those of us curious to see what's happening on our server today.
+1 for this...I'd play way more often if I could find people to party with.
Very important IMO for quick easy partying. Several of my friends that have quit said their reason was it was too hard to find a party for the middle ranks(levels now).
I reactivated like a week ago because of 1.19. I've been in full low levels parties, and it was fun going in group to shopsae, or the mines, etc. But it is hard to setup such groups (PL pretty much killed them below level 30), and once a member leave you can't replace it (you don't want to go to uldah to get a new member and get back again).
Having to use that crappy tool you gave us, or shout in uldah is silly and kills the fun.
Bring something in quick, let us set up our LFG flag, and give us a way to search the people for it. You want to put some UI around this, fine, but keep it simple. Let people declare themselves LFG, and as a party leader, I'll pick what is in need.
You dropped so many awkward ideas from the previous team and it was a good thing, please drop this one and give us the /sea command , or change your current tool to just reflect this system !
This is a party game, it is too hard and cumbersome to setup one !
BUMP ! players ...unite !
